Loot filtering?

I don’t think we need a loot filter in this game because of salvaging, that’s not what I’m asking for. I am also a dedicated PoE player, but I’m just asking for QoL from other games in the genre, not insisting this game adopt some obscure layer of complexity.

Once again, not a loot filter, but would a system that highlights items based on affixes work in this game? Use the keywords that already exist on the skill tree and apply it to items then make the text change when the item is on the ground (or maybe in your inventory) depending on how many affixes match the filter. The reason I would want this system is that you can make coherent non-generic builds while leveling that may have certain breakpoints and uses aspects that will be consistently available via the codex.

It would help a lot with efficiency during leveling to just know like “those gloves I picked up have CDR and crit chance I might want to put an aspect on those when I go back to town” rather than having to individually check items before slamming salvage all. It’s probably helpful at endgame too, but I don’t think the later world tiers are going to be dropping 2 screens of worthless items like PoE frequently does.

I would never ask for something like this in a game like D2 where the list of things you want at a given time is pretty short (a couple of runes, runeword bases, etc) or D3 where clicking the up arrow is over and over again is virtually always the right option while leveling unless you’re dropping some busted legendary effect, but it seems much more fitting given the value of yellow items and affixes in D4.

It seems likely that only legendary and unique equipment are going to matter much in endgame, but having various loot filter options wouldn’t hurt anything. It’s just a matter of whether or not they feel it’s worth the effort to program into the game.

Personally, I noticed that there was no loot filter because I generally filter out the white and blue trash so I don’t fill up my inventory 2-3 times on the way to completing a dungeon or whatever quest I’m working on. It was more of a problem when the game was less stable in beta and likely won’t be an issue when it’s live. It also gets annoying being visually spammed with too much text and makes it harder to click on the yellow gear you actually want to loot because it might be better than what you have.

After reading your post, however, it doesn’t seem clear what you actually want. I think you spend too much time saying what you don’t want to ask for. Maybe clarify in fewer words so people don’t have to read so much to understand what you’re saying.

Yeah, I kind of overexplained because I see people get snappy whenever anyone asks for something like PoE or D2 and “loot filter” invokes what exists in PoE.

POE sucks so the answer is automatically no
