Looking for a good WereStorm build w/o Hunters Zenith

I have looked all over for a good Werewolf Lightning Storm set up that doesn’t use HZ or Wildheart boots. While I like the utility of always have Roar and Trample up I just don’t like the play style of constantly shifting to keep up buffs. Every time I think I’ve found one I find fatal flaws with the paragon board or other things that don’t make sense. I found a good Human from one but not Werewolf

Which key passive do you want to use then? Probably not bestial if you don’t want to shift, so just Ursine? If so, hunters zenith is still useful but I suppose not mandatory considering it’s a slot you can temper for more Thunderstruck damage multiplier.

I don’t mind to shift to Bear for 2 out of 15 seconds, it’s the constant shifting required by Zenith/Wildheart that I don’t like. I would love to see a link to your Grizzly Rage version it sounds interesting.

EDIT- I would prefer to not use a unique ring so I can get tempers there. Also I am currently using Juggernauts but I see a lot of builds with only 1 armor roll and an armor temper, will that get you to the cap? It would be really useful to dump Juggernauts for another defensive aspect.

Think you might need GA armor on chest and pants. Def look to get armor cap without jugg but might need armor % on chest. Could also go Yens on boots instead too.

I e seen builds that dont even use Roar and use Maul for shape shifting bonuses plus Howl…what do you think of that? Would also be cool to have Maul for easy Spirit Regen.

If you don’t run the unique boots could go for +spirit there, so spirit might be less of an issue. I’m using GA there on my bear landslide but if I get unlucky use trample with spirit on use to quickly fill up again.

Thank you for the video I am gonna dig into it! And yes I am going to run +spirit on boots instead of a unique and maybe* use Mad Wolfs chest if I can get +armor pants with armor temper. Ugh I have so much fear saved up but even making minor adjustments to my build is so difficult trying to find the right combo of GAs.

I hate shifting. I’m doing human with Sheppards/stampede, bloodhowl heal, and Temerity with barrier damage aspect. Its aight once you have leveled up Aescetic Wraps.

I wouldn’t say I hate shifting. I don’t mind staying Bear 2 out of 15 seconds…but having to shift every 5 seconds to stack a buff and then another timer of I think 8 seconds for a buffs in the skill tree is just too much. It is clunky and there is no flow to it.

I don’t want to go Human and loose all the were wolf paragon buffs or lose Envenom. Otherwise human form would be tempting so I could use Godslayer or Shako.

Boosting damage in human with Sheppards combo is big. Only using blood howl works well because off tanking with your wolves you dont need as much DR from bear form at all.

Temerity with aspect for barrier damage on amulet is great

Its an immediate 38%(X) on amulet I believe. If you are using temerity it is a good bump.

I am doing the following for offense

2H - Sheppards - 20%(x) per companion
Ring - Stampede (3 bonus companions for Stampede so an extra 60%(x)
Ring - Lightning Dancers for Dancing Bolts for Mobbing
Amulet - Concieted (with Temerity
Gloves - Aescetic Wraps

All tempers are damage on distant. Tank with Wolves, Proc boosted crit chance with Ravens (flat crit is real high like 60%), Proc crowd control for damage to crowd controlled slow with creeping vines and petrify

Well I tried removing HZ and WH boots and took Trample/Roar off my bar and added Maul/Bulwark plus the aspect that increases Bulwark duration by 6 seconds plus Hectic and just no. In equal level pits to what I was doing Bulwark barrier gets deleted instantly. I have had success with other classes using barriers but I instantly regretted trying Bulwark. Relying almost solely on Maul for fortify also doesn’t feel great but it is nice to hit Maul to get my Shapeshfting perks.

I’m thinking I am gonna try Petrify along with the boons for Ultimates, not sure what aspect I will throw on my Boots/Pants yet. Maybe Metamorphosis and Might or the Elite Barrier one unless anyone has a better idea. Honestly I am doubting how good Petrify is gonna feel because even with the Spirit Boons and Petrifys built in CD reduction for killing enemies effected by it is usually gonna leave me waiting for it a while.

Bulwark is more about proccing it as frequent as you can for the unstoppable. If you proc it quick enough you can be CC proof.

I tried metamorphosis for the unstoppable but the increased cool down on dodge was too drastic for me. You cant be without dodges in the pit boss rooms.

I am also having that issue with Meta as my sole unstoppable. Sadly it seems that HZ procs is much more smooth than anything I’ve tried so far (Bulwark, Meta+Petrify). Sigh.

Little update:; I have added Grizzly Rage align with the 2 associated alse fa to Make it work in Werewolf and extend duration. To do this I had to drop Lightning Dancers and since with the Spirit boon to extend Ultimate duration and the one that helps reduce Ultimate CD I don’t spend much time outside of Grizzly Rage I in turn dropped all my talent points in Quick Shift and everything else with bonuses for shifting and redistributed to other skills like Bad Omen and the one that’s lucky hit to make Vuln.

I haven’t tried any difficult content yet as I am still trying to figure things out plus I feel almost naked without the constant free Trample and Roar procs from Zenith. Like Maul is useless to me now so is there something better that makes sense to put on my bar? I was thinking maybe Blood Howl even though the AS increase won’t help me at all. I also had thought about adding Tornado for Bosses, I could pretty easily move my paragon board around to remove stuff that is +Lightning damage to increase general damage that benefits both skills but I couldn’t add any ranks to it or use Stormchasers.

Also not sure which defensive aspect I should use on my pants, I have Vigorous on chest and Meta on boots. I would like to have a way to fortify now since that is gone with the build change.

EDIT: I decided to add Cyclone Armor to replace Maul from my last setup and I’m using the aspect that allows it to also reduce physical damage. Constant 10% damage resistance seems pretty strong and I’m also finding the knock back effect useful in the pit so I think I will invest another point in it to get the 2 second 70% slow for survivability. So far I am really liking the Grizzly Rage setup. I don’t know where I am getting my fortify from now but I am still getting it from somewhere but it isn’t a comfortable amount like the Roar/Trample set up was so I wouldn’t wan to use any aspects that require fortify or rely on being fortified to take advantage of paragon damage resistance. I would like to find a way to incorporate better Fortify into the build just not sure how.

Grizzly gives 8% fortify per second on one of the upgrades if I recall. Been awhile since used. Boon for defensive giving fortify or maybe investing into dodge/aspect that gives fortify but other than that, not sure too many other ways besides the passives/tempers for the one.

Ok I checked my talents but didn’t even think about GR lol. I ran a few pits and Werewolf LS with GR is definitely more enjoyable than Werewolf LS using Hunters Zenith for Roar/Trample resets and having to worry about constant shifting for talent buffs and Wildheart. Much easier to pay attention to your positioning and advancing when you aren’t micro managing multiple Shapeshfting buffs on different (too short) timers. Downside is no Clarity because you can’t access your pet skills in GR and Cyclone Armor is really the only defensive available to use because in density you are quite easily constantly in GR. Upside is I’m doing more damage now than when I had my Shapeshfting bonuses and Clarity plus I never have spirit issues now. I wish we had a good set of DPS boots because I don’t need the Spirit Regen on them any more. I just wish I didnt have to use companions for Shepherds because it may be fun to try a Close Damage LS with Hurricane. I could see Tornado being effective in this set up with the insane spirit Regen.

I’m currently playing with Maul and Lacerate. Tested Perfect Storm, Lupine’s Ferocity and Bestial Rampage. I managed to do 99 in 6 mins will all those 3 but at pit 100 they literally erased me.

I use Shephards aspect as all of us. However, wanted to have a panic button since my reflexes are not good enough. So I use Lacerate. Saved me from many encounters. Maul with its aspect (cannot remember the name) provides Attack Speed and Damage Reduction. It also triggers quickshift and bestial rampage. I use 2 normal rings with Attack speed, Crit chance and MaxHP. I use chest and boots with Spirit per second. Boots have 3 evades and metamorphosis aspect. add that to Lacerate and you cannot be CCed. This is a very comfy build and made me (45 y.o. with reflex issues) complete 99 with no problem with a fast pace.

One thing tho, Bestial Ramapge is not comfy for me. But it has the most damage output if you can manage it. If you have spirit issues, go for perfect storm. You’ll lose some benefits but spirit worths it. Lastly, Lupine’s Ferocity, I really dont know. It felt good but still, Bestial Rampage is better.

P.S.: Please note that I highly min maxed my build and most of my equipment is 12/12 with some exceptions.
