Leveling scalling

I’m relatively new to Diablo 4 and have been playing for about a month. What I noticed was that this level scaling system is somewhat… dubious. My necromancer is lvl 99 and when I went to enter the ice beast I died extremely easily when the ice fell to the ground repeatedly and quickly with no chance of me escaping. My armor is at 5k, health 10k, and damage 13k. The boss’s level is 88 and I’m 11 levels higher and it seems like I’m not strong enough. I put all possible upgrades in the set which are lvl 80 with maximized vampiric powers…I’m using the darkness/plague, tentacles and bone storm build and my paragon is well in line with the build I’m using. My frustration is that the more I invest in armor and improvements, the feeling I get is that I haven’t evolved at all in all this time. It was one of the most annoying bosses I’ve ever seen with extremely repetitive mechanics of that ice attack that comes from above exactly 3 times…what am I doing wrong? I have never felt as much frustration as I am feeling after playing against this boss…why doesn’t the game give the feeling that we are evolving? The time I wasted playing until lvl 99 made me abandon Diablo 4…the frustration is enormous!

sounds like your resistance arent high enough. Every atack from the beast of the ice is also dodgeable.

All resistances is 70%…

then it might be just a dodging problem on your part

For what its worth, the beast of the ice is one of the stronger uber bosses indeed.

You just need game experience. I put down Beast on Ice safely at level 85. But i could I put him down at lower level if i am not saving mats. I had a stalemate with Varshan on level 75… i wasted the mats. I didnt want that to happen on Beast on Ice so i challenged him at his level.

I put down Duriel first at level 91. Another at 95… all on Solo. But i am pretty knowledgeable of my build.

TBiI is legitimately difficult if you’re not using a build that can cheese him in a few seconds, as the mechanics of the fight are quite punishing.

5k armor is actually a little low, but it sounds like you’re just not doing the mechanics properly. You absolutely need to evade the attacks or they will drop you in an instant. Even for Barbarians you can die real fast.

In just a month I’ve already learned a lot in Diablo 4…even with all the resistances maximized, using evasion in attacks I keep dying…and the feeling of progress in the game is non-existent.

The balance and itemization are both big issues currently that unfortunately are going to take a while still to resolve.

The Beast In The Ice is one of the more difficult bosses in this game. I’m an experienced Diablo player (who plays casually), and I still found that boss quite difficult compared to other content which I experienced during the leveling process.

Personally I think that boss sits in the sweet spot, at difficulty which is a combination of a good challenge and gear check.

Tier 31 NM dungeon for that boss is somewhat misleading considering the difficulty, especially when playing an underperforming class like Necromancer.

Even if your cold resists are capped green at 70%, still replace your jewelry with all three cold resist gems; going way over cap, then Beast dose a lot less damage.

I was having the same issues till I replaced my gems for the fight, then no issues. Just remember to replace back in your normal gems after your done running Beast in Ice.

The real problem with it is rather that it’s not sensibly done in terms of how you go up against these opponents.

Firstly, it’s made like an arena fight. Ok, you can do something like that somewhere. But making all the fights like this feels contrived.

And 2. the fights are basically monotonous and pointlessly created as a game of skill.

You can’t get out of the flow of the game with tactics like in D2. Flee, town portal, retreat and attack again, or class systems that are designed to create tactical gameplay.

Such as in D2 Hydra-Sorc, Trap-Assa, or Hit and Run principle like with an Assassin, whereby this still does permanent justice to the current style of play, unless you are full of perfect equipment.

The way the game ultimately behaves towards the player just feels too much like forced gameplay and always serves a pure progression style of play, which significantly minimizes the fun.
