Lets Settle the Seasonal "Controversy"

ok, lets get this nonsense “controversy” out of the way.

  1. you level WAY faster in seasons (astronomically)
  2. you have WAY higher drop rate of good gear, not that yellow turd with bad rolls you found
  3. you have SEASONAL FLAVOR, which sometimes changes classes, builds and game feel entirely

Once you try a season, you will NEVER go back, trust me. Everyone has gone through this process. Let go of your closed mentality. This is statistically proven across multiple games over decades. Do some research.

So you just complete the current content faster?

The whole point of seasons is that it adds a fast forward button through the leveling process and then you get to the actual good part, the gear farm and end game activities. With seasons you will have flavor added to the game which a lot of the times changes build possibilities entirely. Imagine a modification to your game every 3 months which changes the feel and performance of your characters. Sometimes the flavor isn’t life changing, but sometimes it is. ARPGs are about loot, seasonals get you to that process faster

So why increase the drop rate?

You can’t settle something with people who aren’t reasonable.

Let’s use D3 as an example. In the eternal realm it used to be much harder to get the items you are looking for. In the seasons you could deck your character out in a short period of time opening up different build combinations with multiple sets of gear, trying out more of the other classes and their builds and overall gives you a faster dopamine hit of hitting maxed out instead of wasting your life away grinding like a second job.

Then in the next season it is all reset and new changes are added, new builds become viable based on balancing or flavor for a season.

I think the main issue is that if you count the time from launch to the start of Season 1 as “Season 0” then we’re looking at about 6-7 weeks of time. This is a terrible amount of time for such a Season 0. If it was 2-3 weeks, fine, we get to push through the campaign and then “screw around” a little.

I strongly feel that they should roll the “Season 0” characters we have into Season-1 (then continue with normal resets for season 2+). For the vast majority of players, we’ve had enough time to get attached to our characters, but not enough time to really sink in our teeth.

Imagine they announced tomorrow: “All Seasons will be 6 weeks long.” Maybe the top 0.1% of the most extreme players would like that… But there would be tremendous backlash from everyone else saying “6 weeks is too short”. Well a 6 week season is what we have for Season 0.

Yes, I agree that season 1 is quite soon, I do not like that myself because I am busting my butt trying to reach 100 before it starts. That being said, it is a totally different argument and point altogether.

Is it a different argument though?

People familiar with the diablo season cadence from d2, d3, or d2:r are generally fine with the idea of seasonal resets. I count myself as one of those. I’ve been doing seasons since d2 ladder days and through d3 as well. But I also feel kinda “bummed” that they are choosing to reset at the start of season 1.

Most of the people who are similarly bummed are people not familiar with the cadence because d4 is their introduction. So the only reference they have is this 6-7 week window. Telling them “No no, it’s going to be better actually when we get to season 2” is a hollow reassurance considering that, ya know, we haven’t even started season 1.

Yea d3 also had a much higher power cieling that you had to grind out. Not the case in d4.

Too much speculation from people who are using their speculation as factual, as if they’ve already played a few seasons

Either way, seasons are 100% not going anywhere

Let me shorten your post for you

WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

The devs have stated none of these things about diablo IV seasons.

Why are you just making stuff up?

You are delusional. Leveling will be 100% the same…

I get that it may set a bad precedent because of this short time to season 1, but as humans who have intelligence, isn’t it natural to inquire about the functionality of previous games with similar mechanics and analyze them? One look at the statistics and benefits of seasons and it will paint a far more positive picture for those who are currently in the negative about it.

100% agree.

Seasons were the reason I played D3 so much.

Leveling was faster in D3, more content, more paragon, more items.

And you may just find Season 1 of D4 will follow this.

Lets see before we cast it into the fire and cry.

I don’t know what you are imagining in your head, but it is wrong.

And what historical analysis of similar games and functions do you have to prove this? Or perhaps something from a dev which states that seasons will not follow the same code as before?
