Let's discuss itemization

Diablo 2 has the best itemization I’ve ever seen in a video game. There is a reason why it’s still one of the best ARPGs 20+ years later. Why aren’t any of these aspects of itemization in this game?

  • Everything is tradable
  • Ways to build wealth at all levels: you can trade perfect gems for mid runes, mid runes can be traded up to high runes, runes were currency for all items in game
  • Whites could roll with multiple sockets for runewords. Variable quality and rarity white runeword bases
  • Runewords!! The best concept I’ve seen so far, need to include this for sure
  • items could roll as ethereal (loses durability and cannot be repaired) but they were BIS for mercs cause they don’t lose durability
  • Yellows could be BIS for certain slots (tri-res boots, etc)
  • Everything dropped for all characters. If I was running a barb, and I found a titans revenge javelin? I guess Ill roll an Amazon alt to make use of that cool item!
  • lots of useful lower level items for the casuals to just get through the game, but also lots of rare strong uniques that can take months/years to farm. Hundreds of sought after items in the end game of varying quality, rarity, and usefulness.

I really want to love d4, but it’s missing the above things to really put it over the edge IMO. For starters, we need way more build defining uniques. We play diablo because of the LOOT at the end of the day, that’s what keeps us coming back.

“takes months/years to farm”

game resets every 3 months

Items rain from the sky in diablo 4.

There is no sense of progression since you kill everything in 1crit anyways.

The game will never be anything other than a casual 1crit kill no progression game for casuals that can only play 1hour a day.

But if you don’t, the mobs kill you in one crit.

Yeah 1hit kill or be 1hit killed, typical blizzard “balance”.

thats why d3 was good, casuals could feel powerful quick and people that played a ton could chase marginal power increases through paragon and augmenting with gems

Good? Yeah dude thats so good lmao, its boring asf.

Imagine in any other game you just 1hit kill everything, Elden ring would have never been purchased.

the choice they made to account bind legendary and unique items was sound indeed. its their action against those farming/auction websites to sell items that is against their terms of service agreement. also, back then there werent sites were you could just go and buy any item you wanted 20 years ago. you could sell your account on ebay for profit, but items werent sold like they are now. besides, i hated seeing cr ap get spammed on my screen on advertisements from bots getting people to go to websites etc…

in elden ring to you spam dungeons for hours every day?

So you think, spamming dungeons all day and 1hit killing everything on your screen is fun?
The boss at the end dying in 3 crits is fun?

Grinding “Stronger” gear, to keep 1hit killing the monsters?
Sounds like awesome progression!!!

Sounds really engaging bro.

yea much more fun than spending 30 min on a dungeon having to hit things 20 times for no significant reward 90% of the time

Literally no one said spend 30mins on a dungeon hitting monsters 20 times for no reward but you mate, thats not what im asking for at all.

Simply lowwering the garbage spam drop rate in this game would make items more rewarding, but instead you do 1 dungeon for 60 yellow items in 5minutes…

WOW so rewarding dude!!

I agree completely. Unfortunately, the loot rules that where adapted in D3 and now into D4 have severely hurt the opportunity from D2 loot system. Although it is still more than capable.

Everyone crying about loot being personal loot and no longer shared resulted in loot raining from the sky. There is an abundance of loot every where. Which in turn, floods a potential trade economy.

Now, the current d4 rare trading economy isn’t that bad in the official blizzard partnered chaos sanctuary discord. However, the currency “gold”, is an infinite, easily obtainable resource, with a lack of gold sink, that will eventually lose its value and the trade market will diminish into nothing the later the season goes on.

To many items, to much gold. No other currency to support the trade economy. It will be good for the first month, maybe 2. It’s a good thing they plan on 3 month seasons. Any longer wouldn’t sustain a trade economy in its current iteration.

you never said what your asking for so im just going with generals of what youre suggesting

Simply lowering the item drop rate would make items feel more exciting.

Since you do 1 dungeon and get like 60 yellows.

Im talking about, items arent rewarding because the games difficulty is a pathetic joke and you feel no sense of progression other than a fake number (X nightmare dg)

No one is comparing their progress with friends by saying

“Oh man im stuck at nightmare tier 61”

Because a tier 70 can be easier than a tier 70 depending on the dungeons and affixes.

D3 greater rifts were like that, too.

Why would that make things more exciting? you get 60 yellows and they are all garbage…
the odds of getting an item over 800IP are what? 1%? then you also need to get at least 3 good affixes on it, so thats about another 1% chance and then good rolls on those affixes?

whats fun about spending 300 hours chasing near BIS items for it then to reset ?

Yeah welcome to d3.5 something they said this would be.

OK, I have 9 rings in my bank all ancestral

+Crit chance
+crit damage
+Vulnerable damage
+Physical damage

All without being rolled at all, because the games progression is garbage and the items rain from the sky.

Itemization needs huge changes, reduction of affixes and reduction of drop amount + rate.

cool, i have 2 lol drop rates for actual good items is extremely low. being level 100 doesnt increase the IP range of the drops as well, doesnt decrease the sacred drop rate. The drop rate of near bis items is low enough, making it lower doesnt make anything more exciting.
