Yep. If I play a game that uses Euro notations, it doesn’t take a large mount of mental effort to just translate it in my head.
Same for metric measurements, on the scale D4 would be using. I just accept the “feel” of 1m = 1 yard. I know it’s not precisely accurate … but in a fantasy game where I’m throwing waves of blood at the enemy, while animate human skeletons swing swords, and the chick next to me hurls lightning bolts and summons a giant snake literally made of fire …
… I can accept the tiny imprecision that would produce.
Yeah in Australia we use commas as well, not the period. Although the international Bureau of Weights and Measures put a standard in place saying that neither commas or periods can be used on large numbers but a space should be used, i.e. 1 000 000 000.
So I guess with everyone saying that their way is the proper way, we can just stick with what you are used to.
You scrubs will take the US measurement standards and like it. When your country becomes #1 then we’ll do it you way, until then, keep crying and wishing.
Ha, ha. That joke has not been used a zillion times in the last few centuries. /s
0.9144m, actually. So more like 8.5% difference.
And … in a fantasy-medieval world? No, 9% is not significant, unless you’re an architect. You’re not breaking out a tape measure while out in the woods fighting off Fallen and Werewolves.
Yards, meters, it’s not going to matter. It’s already difficult enough visualizing how large it is that whatever unit they decide to use is completely arbitrary.
Outside of other game add-ons telling you distance I just know 5 is bigger than 3 etc. But not necessarily if I’m 3, 5 or in between units of measurement.
Large numbers should not be separated by a period, unless indicating a decimal.
In Switzerland we write large numbers with apostrophes 1’000’000’000 and periods for fractional parts.
I’m aware that we also have System of Units, in which separators are done with commas and fractional parts done with periods, nevertheless, because it can be overlooked especially when hand-written, I opt to using apostrophes because they tend to be visually easier to see when someone writes with their feet. I mean, I’ve seen some absolutely atrocious handwriting in my life.
I knew 0.9144 but since its a 4 not a 5 or a 6. I can say 0.91. And im an engineer so i do tell the difference. 4 mm difference is not enough within a meter. And only difference would be when talking at least a 100 yards which i wouldnt be able to tell 44 cm off
By 10 yards. Cant tell difference between 9.1 m and 9.14 m… very hard to see 4 cm difference in 10 yards.
Number 1 at what ? Gun shootings ? Ok ill give you that one. But i rather be last place there.
Excuse me but your not selling it only in the US right ? If you sell it in Europe you should localize.
I thought you said US measurements?
I don’t see anyone measuring stuff in washing machines, car lengths, bowling balls or literally anything other than an actual measurement.
Let’s just stick to the CORRECT way of measuring things, with commas.
