Leaderboards should be separated by class and build.
Atherwise build diversity will be dead .
All u will see is top meta builds and thats it .
I know some people care about leaderboards. I did 20 years ago when I didnt have a job amd could no life a D2 ladder.
They will prob be like D3. Solo, group of 2, group of 3 and group of 4.
The gauntlet is likely to be similar to AoZ. We will see in a week.
youāll likely only ever see meta builds at the top of any leader board and idk how you could have different leaderboards for each build like you suggest. i donāt see any reason why the list should be separated by class and itās actually a tool that shows class imbalance. it will actually help the devs to know they need to nerf a class if itās always at the top of the leaderboards. i donāt play games for leaderboards so i really donāt care. for me itās all about beating the game on hardcore with at the highest difficulty with each class and having fun doing it.
How do you even do that? Not everyone is copying from maxroll or icyveins.
Easy , for example Undecember has similar leaderboard to what i suggest it is separated by skill.
Its easy to do and d4 has far less skills then Undecember .
That way people can run the build they want and compete whit people that are actually usuing the same skill and not the only the meta Hota lightning ball for example from season 2
I guess that could work now, but as the game evolve we are certainly going to get more build diversity, with new skill runes, new parangon boards, new aspects, new uniques, new systems etc.
I think they should just keep it simple.
Anyone chasing for a high rank is likely going to run a meta build anyways. So if you compete with a low tier build you are probably not competing with the best players and that would also make the leaderboard irrelevant.
The only way to have a fair leaderboard is to have some content with predefined build, just like D3 did with the weekly rift thingy.
i didnt even fathom that it could be any other wayā¦
they better be on par with d3ās or better.
d3ās has separations not only for classes but also for different types on gear within the same classes.
ie: legacy of dreams vs sets and group vs solo as well.
you also get to inspect peopleās gear on the ladder.
i expect d4ās to be on par or better. but iām used to being let down by now
Youāre going to see that no matter what.
What dictates what builds to put on the leaderboards? Thereās a lot of possibilities per class. If you did it by Core Abilities per class there would be a total of 5, but wait, what if a class uses multiple Core Abilities in their build? What if they use none? D3 was able to do this based on the Sets they had, and any number of abilities couldāve been used. D4 doesnāt have well defined ābuildsā in the same sense that D3 did, so I donāt see this working out.
Build diversity is mostly dead because people will always flock to the meta builds regardless. If thereās a way to pump out the most damage in a particular build setup, some one will find it, post it, and a good amount of people will use it. Not everyone of course, but thatās the nature of these types of games. People become very close-minded in these cases.
There will always be that one build that is the best build, and others may come close, but thereās a reason itās the best build. So Iām rather curious, what your solution to this would be? Not just the build diversity, but also how to separate the leaderboards.
The important question is what color the border will be on the leader boardsā¦.and will the color change from season to seasonā¦ā¦since it is obvious whomever is controlling the content of this game just rebrands content with new colors hoping the lemmings wont realize.
But what if D4 leaderboards comes up in your performance review?
Its is not a problem to do , if a small company managed to do it in Undecember i belive a big company whit big resources can manage to do even better .
Im not even kidding undecember is a moblie/pc game i can bealive blizzard can figure it out.
All you will see is streamers anyway, why would you even try something like leaderboards when you know already whos gonna be top LOL.
Some china guy and top streamers
So again whatās your solution? We need it laid out, just saying āUndecember does itā doesnāt explain anything. Give us an example of your idea how they could do the leaderboards. If itās by skill what would it look like? How many divisions under a class would there be considering you can have more then 1 core skill invested into? Details are important here, donāt skimp.
Also just to clarify, the leaderboard sorting is already done by this point in time. Regardless of peoples ideas they wonāt suddenly be changed with a little over a week to go. Weāll just have to wait and see how theyāre organized.
Am I dumb, or is this solving absolutely nothing? If you separate leaderboards by class and build, youāre still only going to see top meta builds. What exactly does this address?
Cuz it is more to look at? Distraction from how broken and one sided they will be?
I dont knowā¦i got nothingš
I loathe competition in video games in every form that exists.
Iām only interested in the rewards that come with progress.
Well seeing as I actually do HR⦠id delete the question and write my boss up for being unprofessional
Its easy in D3 as sets dictate how you build. You canāt base leaderboards on aspects or uniques used I donāt think. Maybe you could separate by core skill used. Even then there are a lot permutations like combining a couple core skills together, and even not using a core skill. Ideally you allow APIs so other websites can do that kind of thing.
