Leaderboards and Solo Self Found

In Poe2 there are leaderboard for Standard, Hardcore, Solo SSF, Hardcore SSF to the get-go, why don’t we add these kind of features to Diablo 4 as well? For Pits, PVP, Dark Citadel.
For sure Diablo 4 was build around the idea of being played in a team, which is fine, maybe not pure SSF mode, but a self found mode for people that don’t like to trade (with buff to item drops just like in Last Epoch), vs standard mode for people that want to trade (with a proper official action-house on gold not RMT). People would argue that it is hard to balance, how come? Just buff the tree of whisper gold drop 5x for self-founders, problem solved.

Even Diablo 3 had a better system where the game was self-found, only trading via team was possible in a certain time-frame, how come D3 was better and D4 is like a village without dogs, where dupers, exploiters, RMT-ing are dominating this game…

I really been wanting leaderboards and recorded stats as well. Not sure why that hasnt been implemented this deep into the game. They had leaderboards on the failed gauntlet, but for pit runs the helltide website is the official/unofficial record keeper at the moment it would seem.

Unfortunately to the unofficial helltide leaderboard we can’t add a function where we can say “trust me bro, I ran my performance on self found”, put me in the “trust me bro, self found separate leaderboard” :frowning:

i am not interested in any type of leaderboards at all.

but i think that maybe a lot of people are. don’t see how it would hurt anybody to add them if they enjoy that kind of thing. might be a great addition to the game.

Because you can’t have leaderboards if the dev team has no interest in balance.

They just sunset the leaderboard in S6 because of lack of players. It will not come back for a long time after the dev has delivered many other higher priority objectives on their backlog.

@Jemuzu, The balance of the game isn’t that bad, all classes were around Pits 110-120, more or less the same, except for Spiritborn which they confirmed prior the release of the expansion that it will be OP.

A single build maybe. Fair leaderboards would require actual creative paths for each skill to reach a relatively similar level in respect to one another. Just because one build from each class can doesn’t mean the classes are balanced.

I think they’re reluctant to add leaderboards or any form of competition, because they want every player, even the most hyper-casual, to feel like they’re good at the game. If people saw they didn’t even make top 1000 and weren’t on the leaderboard at all, I think Blizzard would worry this would make them quit the game or play it less.

It’s the same reason the game is trivial, has no item chase, and has no challenging content.

@krismate I see your point, and it is probably correct, if this would be true, maybe they would need to return the seals

  • Seal of the Blooded
  • Seal of the Steadfast
  • Seal of the Iron-Willed
  • Seal of the Worthy

So that people have an idea where they stand with their build, otherwise there’s really no point for the blasters to play the game more than 1 week, you can basically finish everything in 1 week after you get paragon 260, twice hit masterwork on your items and the season is done, as currently the game doesn’t offer any incentive or additional endgame to let you hit your triple masterwork more efficiently or get more additional GAs (beside trading)

And please explain what is a “casual”, alot of dads with kids, people that work 9 to 5, everyone is able to finish the season after 1 week.

Even casuals will digest the season fast in this current state. That’s why more endgame + leaderboard + self found modes and other incentives should be top priorities in my opinion.

I hate leaderboards with a burning passion. I think there should be support ideally for people to run their own leaderboards on a third party site, but I do not think it should be included. Leaderboards promote builds and shoehorn people into limited styles of play because the masses mostly only follow and don’t lead.

It’s just a way to add pseudo pvp into the game and make it about chest thumping.

Thats a true statement about the balance but the leaderboards are always going to be the min maxed meta for the class because it will outcompete anything else even if it is only by a fraction so it almost doesnt even matter. The people that want leaderboards dont care about build diversity being represented there I dont think.

Exactly it’s the antithesis of build diversity cause there’s NO WAY they’re going to balance everything perfectly so anyone and their build has a shot. It’s even weirder that a game like PoE 2 even has one when it’s literally all about making whatever wacky build you want. I’d say if the community wants one let them make their own, but don’t design around it at all or you’re going to have a very bad time.

WoW to this day still struggles to reign in on all the builds for their competitive scene and they have already tightened those reigns and designed around that in mind. It also imo ruins the fun cause everything has to be ultra fine tuned like it’s a pvp game first.

D4 is a MMO-first game. SSF makes no sense in a game optimized for group play. Also PoE2 is a POS. A better game for solo players is LE, which has specific boosts for solo players.

I’d love a no trade instance. Don’t even need to change drop rates in my opinion. There is a lot in life I can’t have, no sweat if my dream item doesn’t drop. That’s OK, it keeps me logging back in or else I’d been done early in November.

Leaderboards are good for a small number of super hardcore players, so it doesn’t impact me nor important to the larger player base, but I don’t see it doing harm to the game either. To me it isn’t a make or break piece of content, though it could be enteraining to watch streamers compete on leaderboards where nothing can be bought or given.

I don’t play POE2, as I’m not a fan of the souls-like genre, nor do I have the time to play multiple live service games, but the fact that POE has more active players per general on average and that is a better game than Diablo is a fact, sure we can hide under a rock and pretend it’s not true, but I’m sorry if your bubble was burst, all I was asking is Diablo would be a better game if we could get some basic features like separate leaderboards and SSF, specially considering that the game is ruined by dupers and RMT-ers.
