This came as a requirement as first launch. Windows 11.
It is no secret that I have revived an old laptop to still use after 10 years. I use an MSI GT70 in which I replaced the old 675MX with a new 970M. So shouldn’t this 970M (3GB) work? I read somewhere the minimum are 970 (wasnt it about the 970M exactly) and I know on final release requirements may increase… but is this playable now?)
An unofficial upgrade of BIOS, EC and replacing the gpu have allowed to use 970M (can be seen as viable upgrade with 970M 980M in MSI forums)
This upgrade really allowed recent games to run on their Ultra settings, I will list some non-Blizz titles that wouldn’t be possible without having at least that gpu: A Plague Tale, Hellblade, Myst, MK11.
There are also games that can rather run on integrated Intel HD graphics that is up to 1.7 GB memory like Sea Of Thieves, than nvidia GPU because using the Nvidia GPU gives the same error as when I try to use OBS Studio, that is crash because of : nvwgf2umx.dll
But D4 does not have that problem.
Diablo 4 asks for minimum required version 466.47 mine is 353.54, now I last checked but this may be the last version supported for 970M (yes I saw the 400s but they may be for the PC gpu’s?)
My question is, can 970M be supported ? I do not think there are drivers over 400 that exist for 970M
Actually there is a driver for it, yet it says incompatible on install oO. Games like Starcraft 2 “see” my gpu is 970M . So I either have to fix this incompatibiltiy or idk what
That is what im trying now. I may have to solve it within nvidia? So I have:
GeForce experience that ‘knows’ 353.54 as latest available driver for the GPU
Nvidia website that has newer driver that is over what D4 needs but even after uninstalling GeForce Exp and the driver, it gives the Nvidia Driver Not Compatible With This Version Of Windows
even though this version lists the 970M in the series or it doesn’t like my Win 11 Home that is up to date and is 21H2
Similar problem with me. I tried the beta to see if my old portatil did comply with the minimum requirements, and it’s not. Updated actual version is 382+, required version is 466+, it doesn’t even try to run the game
Well, maybe in the future
I’d blame Nvidia for that, they released a GR driver with the idea ‘to prepare us for D4 beta and other games they made the update for’ and the game cant even start. because I can’t update to their driver.
I even installed Windows 11 22H2 from the MS site with iso download wiping the C partition and recreating it from unallocated memory. That is cleanest of the clean installations to make sure no old versions interfere with the driver or its updates… but even their GeForce Exp give some old version and lies that ‘it is the latest cant upgrade to newer’
I guess no beta. At least people have what to complain about in-game
No, I didn’t know about this thread, thanks. I was trying to check with Nvidia why drivers that clearly list 900M series 1000 series will not install but if they can fix it from Blizz side even better.
