i keep crashing so many times its crazy, ill either be at the main menu, in the store, or as soon as i spawn into game. Im running a 14th gen I9 CPU and a 4080 graphics card with 32gb of ram. the crashes happen randomly and so fast after this last update. any help would be awesome
Yeah the game is FULL of memory leaks, massive lag and crashes randomly. BTW, Blizz doesn’t care, if they did we would be talking to a GM not a forum.
Crashing a lot today too.
Given your specs are well above requirements (i9-14th gen, 4080, 32GB RAM), this isn’t a hardware limitation — it’s almost certainly a software/driver/cache conflict. Here’s the order I’d try things:
-
Update GPU drivers — grab the latest Game Ready driver from NVIDIA specifically for Diablo 4. Post-patch crashes are very often driver-related since new shaders/effects get introduced.
-
Verify/repair game files — in Battle.net: Diablo IV > gear icon > Scan and Repair.
-
Clear the shader cache — delete the shader cache folder (NVIDIA Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings, or in the D4 install directory) so it rebuilds from scratch for the new patch.
-
Delete
dstorage.dllfrom the Diablo 4 install folder — this has historically fixed intro/crash issues for many players. -
Disable overlays — Discord, GeForce Experience/NVIDIA App, Steam. These are common culprits for random crashes at menu/store screens.
-
Check for overclocks — even factory/XMP profiles can cause issues; try resetting to default clocks temporarily to rule it out.
-
Run as administrator and make sure Windows + DirectX are fully updated.
It isn’t. It’s a memory leak issue. Diablo 4 has struggled for YEARS with this issue. And 3.1.1 is worse then average for some reason.
That said, your steps are worth doing. But there are a lot MORE things you can do to improve performance.
It still won’t fix Blizzard’s bad coding.
