Im just baffled at how a company that is behind COD, Overwatch, WoW, Diablo, and so many other games cannot handle their own servers. The amount of money generated from not just the games but microstransactions plus not to mention the multi-billion dollar buyout from Microsoft would surely cover datacenters, engineers, IT, and everything needed to run a MMO game. Why force all of us to play online on a game that is fully capable to be offline and online only to fail at providing basic running servers for millions of players. Its not even their first rodeo when it comes to this many players on one of their titles plus they had multiple beta testing sessions to see the problem areas and resolve them. So why is this an issue almost daily for a game that players waited 10 years for. Im honestly speechless at this point for everything we (the players) point out or state just falls on deaf ears with no response nor acknowledgement of such failure. Instead I see articles saying it was a relatively smooth launch and all is well when we (the players) are screaming there is still major issues. Obviously the PR is for their stock price and we are at their mercy all the while burying our calls of help and our frustrations. Has anyone even noticed that every single topic we’ve created so far doesnt have a single acknowledgement or response from the company’s staff? All this forum is; is a soundboard for us to hear ourselves complain and pretend like theyre listening, but they pop bottles and cashing checks on our time and dime. Sad, just sad…
It seems you lack a fundamental understanding of either the magnitude of traffic a game like this causes, or how servers and throughput work.
TL;DR
you are vastly oversimplifying this problem in your own head.
If only that were true.
The only one who is underestimating is the game developer which after so much PR and testing should of been a non-issue.
There is a simple solution… Allow for local offline play. Then you dont over max your servers so that people cant play the game they spent $90 on. I mean isnt this what beta testing is for? I get its a tough business but we werent given the game, we paid for the service. Why is the onus on the gamer to be understanding.
You got me there, flabbergasted should of been the word i went for
I am guessing that on DEV side they might agree with you, but still as you said it’s the voice of a „big guy” that prevails and the money they would make. Fudge the higher server capacity if they would have to downsize later to spare the costs. Let’s simply do due to estimate and that’s it. Some will be frustrated but in a wake of 2-3 weeks Blizzard will reduce costs according to plan and the players will forget.
Answer is quite simple really. Because they dont have to. This is considered “normal” they already have your money and chances are very good you are well past your refund period. Dont make the mistake of believing activision even remotely cares about the people who purchase their products and blizzard died years ago. The real problem is why im stupid enough to keep buying these games.
I reserve my judgment of how they’re handling the launch. Honestly, it all depends on how long login issues like these last. They were right in the middle of maintenance that they tried to do without bringing the live services down. That can be tricky. Said maintenance is supposed to end here within the next 15 minutes, so hopefully the login server is jiving by then.
Not the first rodeo on their side. Good for you that you are so trusting
Yeah sadly i believe this more than i want to. I guess my rant is for my own personal relief. There is still always that tiny tiny tiny bit of hope that it wouldn’t be like this.
Welp im right there with ya and millions of others. What really irks me is the fact people just accept garbage like this which is why it just keeps happening. Put in a request for a refund but i dont see that going anywhere lol.
If i give someone 90 dollars, well then obviously there is some trust, but there is also that ignorance that comes with it. Maybe this whole issue really is my own personal frustration towards myself for being that trusting. Maybe the online servers are an analogy for my life choices.
Well its about customer service. Someone from Blizzard should get up on twitter or something and say yeah we know we are working on it everybody gets 10K gold and sorry. I mean do they not have phones?
Chill dude. There are two rules that I’ve learned thanks to Blizzard/Activision
- NEVER PRE-ORDER
- If you want to play online, or it’s online only - buy at least later than 3 weeks from premiere.
No doubt. Live servers are going to have hiccups in any game. Really comes down to how quickly they resolve issues and frequency the hiccups occur.
Well where were you six months ago when i Pre-ordered??? Lol
Not here obviously
don’t remember having this issue with WoW in the past when new stuff was being released. this is purely related to money.
@kapno I haven’t played WoW for a while and never was for a premiere but this Diablo dookie is the second time. So… Yeah
