I keep hearing this and my ears are bleeding…where did this unholy pronunciation come from? How do you all manage to butcher “Jaguar” so badly?
Is jag-u-wire better?
Isn’t it meant to be kinda drawn out like jag-u-waa
Sounding it out that is… That’s how it is here in Australia, but then again our English is pretty different sounding.
I know this one. It’s worcejaguashire
I usually go with jah-gwar myself.
Perhaps the shag-war? Yeah baby!
It’s pronounced JAG-U-ARE
why is everyone talking about jaguars all of a sudden.
it only reminds me of njaguar who single handedly ruined diablo trading.
i hate that guy
Blame the British, they probably deserve it even if it’s not their fault. Pretty sure “jag-you-are” is their fault, however.
Probably Florida…somewhere in the swamps.
Some southern and midwestern parts of the US have pronunciations like that. Tons of variance when it comes to accents and dialects, but imo as long as communication is successful it doesn’t matter too much.
Yes, agreed. It’s pretty bad heh heh.
In British English its Jag-wah, however, jag-u-ah is also acceptable. As is jaaag
Jagwire just makes me wanna stab my ear drums, especially the way they said it slowly to purposely sound it out that way… jag… wire…
Ugh.
Yes, that British instinct to make the letter sound like its “alphabet” name is… triggering. Generations of “antiquities” & “classics” students, ruined by English ubiquity.
They’re muricans, so the pronunciation is not << dʒaɡjʊə >>, but jag-wire. Now have some bacon and a rifle and let’s kill us some demons.
Oxford dictionary says pronunciation is jag - war (with an umlat over the a). Two syllables, not three.
It’s Jaw-Mrglrlg-Guar
just to make it clear.
Yaj-weir-AY, with eye lids low and eye brows high. Nose turned up a little as well.
Nah down here they callem Jaygarz.
In french, it’s “jah-gwirrrr”, with a long french “r” at the end.
