It's not fun because:

I spent the entire morning grinding nightmare dungeons (because that’s what devs want, right?) trying to get the ring of mendeln to basically finish my necromancer summoner build.

It’s completely tedious, boring and unfun to grind nm dungeons, the reward (1-2/3 trash legs per run and the occasional unique that i naturally do NOT need) is not rewarding and the fact I barely made it from lvl 78 to lvl 79 in the course of a whole morning of grinding makes me question HOW out of touch the devs actually are with their own game, because with this outcome it is not a question IF they are.

If you honestly think this game is fine, please do the same: play a summoner necro and try to level past 75.
Your movement speed is that of a snail on valium and the fact the exp reward in that “HUGE DIVERSE WORLD” is even MORE trash everywhere else but in the NM dungeons just shows that whoever is responsible for general balancing is a waste of salary.

Yes, I am not the “general causual player which is the target audience” supposedly, however I usually hit my goals in the tons of games I play, which was to reach lvl 100 here, however the game is so bland, terribly balanced and artificially slowed down that I am thinking about throwing it in the mental corner where it belongs to move on to actually FUN to play games.

On top of all that I have to say that MAYBE moving the game to crossplatform land (with D3 at some point…) was a terrible idea when patches like the black goo screen cancer that the enhanced corpse explosions produce (which you brilliantly NEED to have a playable summoner build of some kind more or less) supposedly take weeks to months to fix because of having to get everything double-triple-and-quadruple-checked for consoles.

MIND YOU that the black gunk overlays the one-shot hit indicators for mobs, which makes farming nm dungeons that are filled with those mechanics feel like being an actor in the music video for The Prodigy’s Voodoo People (Pendulum Remix).

I don’t know if this is true but I hear that they’re going to look at the exp gained from Nightmare Dungeons to reduce the monotony of running them back to back. I also hear that they’re going to let us teleport directly to dungeons.

Again don’t know how true this is but I hope it’s true.

In season 1 as the earliest

So… if they nerf the xp from nm dungeons that solves nothing and is probably the only thing they think about given how they handled things in the past.

Awesome, that way I can blindly run into a tree EVEN FASTER!

You could try to be less pessimistic, the change that I saw that was that they’re going to increase the exp gained not decrease it…

I got the same problem with ring of mendeln and i hit lvl 94 just doing NM dungeons, helltides and whispers trying to farm it. Still no Mendeln drop.

Didnt read past first sentence.
Well you prolly found some guide or build which told you what and where is what you need. Devs dont want that im pretty sure. I dont even know what uniques are in the game…but sure be my guest and spoil it for yourself looking at it, find a guide which tells you what you need for your class to “work” Sure , sounds like fun.

D2 which is held in such high regard would have you farming for chase items for weeks, months and some people years…many builds were extremely gear dependent and don’t function at all well without very specific combinations of items….

Many people overlook the fact you could do hundreds and thousands Baal runs, repeating the exact same content and still never see the item you wanted. The only saving grace was an ability to trade and the fact the game didn’t have much end game content.

One ladder season I didn’t even find a single high rune……

Okay, me neither.

The items you speak about were a handful of “grail” items, not an item that is necessary to run a BASIC summon necro build somewhat efficiently.

Right, once again that goes for a handful of “grail” items and also the itemization and EXTREMELY POOR uber event design is what made people run bots instead of playing the game. Diablo 2 is over twenty years old and after giving up on balancing and adding content to the game the devs RUINED it by adding the uber event that required you to farm Stone of Jordan rings to sell to vendors. At 50 or 100 sold (don’t remember, never did it after all) the uber event triggered for all games open on that server’s ip at the time. HOWEVER: The event was designed to basically FORCE people to run bots to do it efficiently, which then allowed the devs to have banwaves banning the botters which they did every other season or so, which then made the botters have to buy cd keys again which generated money.
Taking THAT game and its extremely toxic, customer-abusing mechanic to make a point is flawed.

Once again, read above chapter for reason why this comparison is terrible. On top of that the trading system was ruined by above reasons and IF people actually HAD played the game instead of botting (which I did whenever playing D2 - never trading and playing alone and selffound only) they would know that mastering hell WAS the endgame and NOTHING you could achieve within a few days or weeks (once again, IF ACTUALLY PLAYING and not being rushed / abusing bot games).

No, no. You want to maximize mob farming, nightmare dungeons are irrelevant. What you need to do, is to pick a good map layout with decent elite density and farm it all day. Thats how you get uniques in this game.

Nightmare dungeons take 3x longer to clear and the only reward is glyph exp, which you shouldn’t need by now.

Its awful design but thats the game we have currently

Someone doesn’t know about the recent Twitter posting by the devs confirming that nightmare dungeons have the highest chance to get unique items in the game.

Someone doesn’t understand the concept of time to kill and efficiency

Reapers Pursuit Passive + Reap. And get some movement on your boots. I don’t feel like a snail.

I didn’t know T21 and T100 NM dungeons took the same time to clear /s

You should probably not do it then. Pretty simple.

Okay, but if not getting my gear for this build together what is there to do then?
“Just don’t play the game, lol.” Is a pretty lame excuse for an answer, you might just as well not reply at all then.

I did 100 Meph runs one morning in D2. I got nothing useable for my main or an alt. I followed that up with 100 Pindle runs and got a high rune which was nice. Barely any xp toward another level, but no upgrades.

In D3, I did a day of GR farming and gained a few paragon levels. Found no ancients. No upgrades, but got lots of blood shards to spend on gearing some alts.

In D4, I spent a morning on NM dungeon farming. It didn’t feel great. Why did the repetitive farming in D2/D3 feel better? Serious question. I like D4, I will continue playing it, I look forward to starting fresh with friends in Season 1, but it’s missing something. Is it that we expect upgrades now? Is it that we can’t get items for alts?

It felt better because playing it was fun.
Just like Destiny 2 (didn’t play one) is a trash game with extremely cancerous monetization but the gunplay just is fun and I enjoyed playing through the main game once.
Diablo 4 is missing the “but fun” accent.

I mean I WANT it to be good, I WANT it to succeed, but being a former HotS and Overwatch player I am done with empty promises and half-baked products. When I pay 70€ for a stale beta I am going to complain about it, repeatedly, that is the least they deserve for the audacity of serving this.
