Its frustrating to theorycraft a sweet build only to find that

Ya i’ve read a bit on that Thorne builds 300k life Fully fortified getting one shot

Yea I’ve kinda stopped using them the last couple of builds. My necro was okay but switched a few things up from Mobalytics or whatever it is called and I started enjoying myself more.

ah OK. thanks for stopping by.

This right here.

There’s no issue if meta builds were just theorycrafted intelligently and used multipliers efficiently as intended. But what’s actually going on is there are unintended bugs that no one would know about unless it was tested thoroughly that are being exploited. That’s what’s creating this ridiculous gap between meta and non-meta builds- exploiting bugs.

One really annoying thing about this is if you actually theorycraft correctly and use math correctly you work out that one build is trash-tier and decide not to use it- but Blizz accidentally made something quadruple dip secretly, and now that trash-tier build is S-tier because of it.

BLIZZARD MATH STRIKED AGAIN!!

Lol so true 24 characters…opps just need 20

Any game that has any math in it requires excel if you want to be competitive - in other words all games.

Lets say you want to become a professional in real life. You are probably going to college. In some high paying trades you would work under somebody and learn the ropes. After you spent some time learning you may start to think on your own and develop what you have learned and applied it to your own personal strengths. You might even someday become one of the leaders in your profession.

Diablo is similar. If you are starting out working with a new build you probably should work with a guide. You might even try a second and third guide exploring and learning about the different build philosophies. At some point you will start making changes that reflect your own style. The guide stops being a rulebook and becomes a tool you use only as a starting point to modify as you wish.

To really understand the game it can accelerate your learning to study those some people regard as the best players. It is better to model your learning on those who have shown success. The people who reject learning from the guides have given up on learning…

Diablo 4 Theory crafting is not as complex as some would like you to believe.
Stack as many multiplers as you can with the most uptime.
If only the devs were smart enough to cap the number of multipliers, then other builds, cool builds would have a chance, because the PVE world would not need to be based around damage numbers that are in different orders of magnitude from your class or build.

But they are not, they don’t care about balance. Just buy cosmetics.

I’ll disagree here. Why? The same exact argument was used against Vulnerable and Crit. And did “build diversity” actually increase??? 3 Seasons later, it’s obvious it hasn’t.

This is a nice philosophy, but like I said in the post above yours in reality all these guides for top tier builds are bug exploits. Knowing math and theory crafting properly can actually be a detriment here.

You assume a skill works one way because that’s how it’s supposed to work logically, but oops! Blizz made it septuple dip with Damage vs. Monkeys which interacts with the Aspect of the Octopus bug that somehow thinks every mob is a Monkey so now you do 100000x more damage than a build that was thought-out properly.

Exaclty Snow, im not sure what people would clear if not for the bugs

Actually it has improved from what it was originally.

The problem is still allowing some numbers to grow so much they invalidate the rest of the skills.

Yeah then there is this.

That really is how it works right now. Very well said.

I recommend taking a look at the videos for similar builds posted on the maxroll leaderboard. There are strong flay builds, super-strong thorns, double-swing dust devils, and even some builds called double swing bleed and HotA/WW (I need to take a look at that). So Barb has at least 5 builds that are clearing 109+ (even if you don’t count variants of bash or double swing).

“Play your way” doesn’t mean that you get to design the game. It means that the game gives you options for where to go and what to do and that the difficulty is not so high that jank builds can’t make progress. Compared to PoE, you can absolutely play your way in D4

I don’t get what you want? Do you want to optimize or not think too hard?

B.T.W., just curious @OP

What exactly did you think you could theorycraft around ?

Just give them 10 years and 30 seasons later and wait for Diablo to come into the Diablo game… LOL

Ya endless beta, it would be nice to have a base game that doesnt change from season to season.

I feel that. I had a blast with a minion necro did everything once at least boss wise (not tormented though). Zipped through everything and ignore most missions. Decided to go with a Sorc to slow play through the campaign and yeesh…it’s not as fun to be sure.
