Its BLATANTLY CLEAR that they

Only played this game at max level with every single aspect and unique piece available…

Can’t run any wolf build without uniques.
Can’t run bear build without shockwave and or uniques.

How many classes can’t run any good builds without a bunch of specific items?

A majority of this game is spent leveling up and grinding levels and paragon points but it sucks because you have to use some trashy build.

Why can’t I try at a bunch of different builds and find out which one I would like to play?

The build should BE PLAYABLE with a Unique making the BUILD STRONGER not MAKING the build period.

So weird. It’s like they tested everything with all uniques available and was like “yep this build is cool and fun, everyone will enjoy this”… But then turned around and made that helm you need to run this build a 0.0000004% drop rate.

You can run literally any build up to level 50 at which point you can farm a set of non-optimal sacred gear and put a build together. You can target aspects with obuls from events and helltide chests.

I assume you’re a Druid. You can play pulverize spec with literally all codex powers and the shockwave aspect which you can target with weapon chests in helltides or gambling obuls on one hand weapons.

You can also play trample slide with only a few specific aspects being mandatory. No uniques.

You can play non-werewolf tornado build without uniques and it still slaps.

You can play dire wolf werewolf without uniques. You need a couple mandatory aspects.

There are options man. Just farm those aspects!

For sorc they did the opposite, play till 25 and say lets nerf some skills that are now dog****.
Better to have a build good at endgame with synergies that need to be farmed than falling behind.

Still point made.

Uniques MAKE builds instead of MAKING them stronger and its terrible design. Common sense terrible.

You are playing an ARPG right - what ARPG doesn’t have an element of this!? Even the beloved D2 has builds that are only really viable with very specific item setups.

I don’t think Diablo IIII has great build diversity just yet but I don’t think you have played many ARPGs if you think builds are not linked to items…some builds are functional on very generic gear and others require a combination of specific items (its always been the way).

Diablo has certainly pushed the legendary aspect equation further in one direction, no doubt but conceptually its not new. Diablo III was even worse as if you didn’t have the right set bonus you couldn’t do anything.

It doesn’t matter if you get get to lv.100 using only your auto attack. Unique items are gatekeeping builds from classes that are already established by the mono-pathing guidance provided in class theme (ie mono werewolf druid is not a competitive branch from any perspective compared to literally any other druid)

It would make sense if unique items create brand new builds because of their effect, but instead they are critical backbones to making a mono build function-- fixing the flaws of the build that shouldn’t need a unique to remedy

Its a no win situation - there are camps on all sides of this debate and there is no solution that will keep such a diverse crowd happy.

Even how rare an items should be will be debated until the end of time…

Yes and you can level up with just the basic attack. Does not make it fun though.

Sure some uniques may make a specific build, but you can make many builds based on aspects. Most uniques are garbage though and would be better replaced by a great yellow roll and aspect.

Twisting Blades Rogue is absurdly easy to set up.
