About those game awards.
Real shame.
Makes me wonder what things would have been like with AWSD, like how diablo immortal and most other modern arpgs have.
Sigh.
Such a shame.
Note: this is in regards to the only category D4 was nominated for, “accessibility”

i skipped watching scince there is no contest for game of the year ( there is one very clear best game of the year and it definetly is not D4)

Alan wake 2, tears of the kingdom, resident evil 4 or Baldurs gate 3 could all have gotten it.

This year turned out a lot different than I thought it would when it came to major releases & rivalries.
Baldur’s Gate 3 annihilated Diablo 4.
Zelda destroyed Final Fantasy
Starfield was a major disappointment.
I only played through the campaign so far and just started on tier 3 in season 2, but Diablo 4 isn’t that bad.
I was referring to the only category D4 was nominated for, accessibility.
Wasd support is considered a very basic accessibility feature for arpgs.

That seems like a huge overstatement on two fronts:
-
Zelda was just coming off their best game arguably (top-3 definitely) and so TotK had a ton of hype going in. Hell, I’m not even a fan of the series and knew about the hype.
-
FFXVI was pretty well received by everyone I know who played it and the overall user score shows that as well. FFXVI is on my wishlist as I do want to play it but… ehhh… a lot of other games to get through
That is definitely not true from what I’ve been reading (ie, NeoGAF and Reddit). Final Fantasy XVI is getting trashed hard as a disappointment and it hasn’t been nominated in any of the game awards.
A lot of people are angry because it feels more like Devil May Cry than Final Fantasy.

Oh boy, diablo competes only in the special class and doesn’t even win. That’s truly a shame.

The combat upset the turn based fans.
The lack of gear progression and customization upset the rpg fans.
That’s most of the ff fanbase right there.
Maybe both of you are right…
Meta user is 8.1 and my rule of thumb is above an 8 is “generally well received.” I can’t state anything first hand except from what some of my friends said because I (unfortunately) chose MK1 over FFXVI

Makes sense, I haven’t played it (no PS5) but wanted to from the pre-release trailers. I liked the look of the game: more realistic and darker. I might give it a go if it comes to the PC, but it’s not a high priority after some of the things I read.
Starfield has no excuse for being a disappointment because it’s been in development forever, with a stable, experienced team & foundation. They managed to mess up Fallout in space (although I did like all the quests & stories).
I like how Cyberpunk got a game award for what can be basically summed up as
“They kept fixing it until it didn’t suck anymore”
(also tbf phantom liberty is also really good)

Something for Blizzard to aspire to.

I mean, it didn’t deserve to win anything.
barely any hack n slash games have wasd/zqsd
they all use the mouse to walk/fight
wasd/zqsd controls are pretty rare in any hack n slash that has a litlle self respect
PoE2 will have wasd. Pretty sure there are a couple more.
Hades too.
People who say d4 shouldn’t have it are just high on copium
