So what if instead of telling us every little thing you’re going to do, change, add, you focus more on the “discovery” of it all. A level of secrecy to new content. Just dribble little bits of new things to unlock or find or whatever but just put it in, don’t announce it, and just let us find new stuff on our own? You could do this constantly, it wouldn’t even need to be large scale things (though sometimes it could be). Would any of you have more fun through the season/seasons if you’re just randomly exploring/slaying and stumbled across something no one else did yet? Something you had no idea was there? Idk, it sounds more fun to me.
I agree so much.
Skip the PTR testing of everything. Just do focused tests for bugs etc.
And stop mentioning every new item etc. in the patch notes.
But also, actual discoverable secrets that lead to new content/challenges.
They need the PTR to test out bugs (even though bugs still appear in some shape or form) I suppose.
I’d also wager they makes these “anouncements” to keep people interested/engaged so they won’t leave?
I think they should reveal things but not Everything.
I mean, you do have the option to not watch campfire chats, not play ptrs, and not read patch notes, let alone online guides.
That way you can discover stuff all on your own.
Yes, the “not everything” part. We can still have patch notes, still go over the big important changes, but add some element of surprise and discovery to it. A little “mystery”. Puzzles to figure out to unlock new content. If “conditions are just right” something happens, or spawns, something. Even if it’s little things they could add them constantly, at any time.
That’s part of the reason why I didn’t even play PTR…
I’m going into Season 8 about, well Now 70’sh % Blind.
I know as much about season 8 now because of everybody talking about it so much, Lol
I 100% agree to this.
Makes me wonder though, would I want a season 100% Bug free or a season full of unexpected surprises… hmmm
Well, we get the bugs anyway so I’ll take some surprises.
Definitely. I don’t understand why they even bother documenting all the small changes.
Also, it seems like the D4 team is afraid of ninja nerfing. It would be much better practice considering how big the outrage is every time they announce some nerfs. You could argue that its nice how transparent the devs are, but you don’t need transparency to create a succesful game. (The conversations are not very productive when everyone is raging about the changes to their favorite class.)
thats kinda how i keep it mostly as well. Im pretty selective on what i inform myself about.
I’m just grateful they are gonna try to work on bugs and what ever else that is broken in the 1st few weeks of every season instead of letting it go the Entire Season.
Not sure if they can pull that off though, but we’ll see.
I’m not sure which side I stand on that, but I just want to add that element of excitement. Finding out something new, like the secret cow level but expanded on. Making it a regular thing, every season or just at random. Oh, you think you know everything in the game? Well guess what, we added 5 more secrets to discover and didn’t tell you.
I mean, reveal the new features, like “we added Infernal Hordes, it is basically a horde mode or something!”
Dont need to tell which bosses you are going to fight etc.
Or “Next season you can get boss powers, wohoo”.
Still dont need to tell which ones.
Sure, I always try to go in with as close to zero information as possible on new games, other than basic stuff like their genre.
Like, I have nearly zero idea about which “classes” are in POE2, nor will I try to learn about it.
It just shouldnt be needed. The devs could simply not tell everything at all times.
(not saying they should necessarily not tell which classes are in a game, just not all details about them, as an example)
I get what your saying…
I’m thinking if they did that, their “campfire’s” would be less then 16 minutes.
There is a fine line between telling us big features and then not saying enough to keep people interested.
Seems tricky. >_<
Test??
Guaranteed Barb launches broken AF next season.
The T in PTR is for T-Rex.
Nope. It’s for Trouble…
What do you think a T-Rex is?
Is that what they use in the PTR??
