Just about the very last thing to happen to me during my Server Slam time was to get a legendary that had three different “+1 to a core skill” affixes. Thinking like a gamer, I was bummed that there wasn’t a single “+1 to all core skills” affix, leaving room for 2 more affixes…and since then I’ve been trying to get my head around whether I think the design for the item I got is good or bad.
Should something like that be in the game? While I see the versatility in being able to use different core skills with this item, it really seems to make it LESS likely I’d use it, with what amounts to 2 wasted affixes. I see an item like this shining if one decided to use two, or three, of the 3 boosted Core skills at once–but does anyone use more than one core skill at a time (this is a serious question, I have no idea if that’s A Thing)?
You can reroll affixes with the occultist. Sounds like you got unlucky though with 3 and not 2 lol.

Generally a bad thing.
Especially considering you can get 10% or more damage bonus from an affix that benefits many skills where +1 to a skill only grants 10% bonus damage to that one skill.
Also its kinda hard to use 3 different mana-burning skills constantly.
You can get +all defense, mastery, conjure on amulet, havent seen core or others.
You can get +all skills on the iconic Shako
At higher item powers, you can get more than +1 skill affixes

If the Devs want people to try different builds, then I believe this example should not be possible. Instead, it should have been +1 to a free skill, +1 to a core skill, and (rogue, in this case) +1 to a stealth skill. That way, you have a high probability of NOT getting “your” build combination, and might try something different (and new?!?!?!). I don’t know what threads the devs read, but this would be my layman’s suggestion/takeaway.
One of the most useful items in the game for any non sorc in D2 and D2R was +1 skill point in teleport
It is RNG so that is just not an ideal roll.
I didn’t pay much attention to Prefix / Suffix in the beta.
If +All is a Prefix and +Specific is a suffix it’s a different situation than if both are prefix.
In some of the max lvl builds I’ve tinkered with +All has almost no purpose unless you can roll both. In fact around 50% of my points are in passives. The Prefix/Suffix condition matters a lot in this when only certain slots can roll certain skills.
Sadly I didn’t pay attention to itemization much as I should have. So don’t have an answer.
I got 3 different pieces of gear in a short time span with +1 to skill in all 3 affixes. It was weird. I didn’t see those in the previous beta. To me it’s a lousy roll. It could be called unlucky but I would call it unlucky if it happened once in a while. It happened like 2 drops in a row and then a third time while I was in my same party.
This system seperate affixes. More affixes = more crafting experience. It’s good for me and it’s a good decision
It is definitely a lousy roll by end game min/max standards but for leveling gear as long as it is a +1 to an ability that you are using it is fine. You probably won’t have it for very long.
I mean, I wasn’t mad or anything. Just thought it was weird to get them like that back to back. I kind of don’t think a roll like that should even be possible but it is what it is. There will be plenty of drops.
Yeah just random affix popping up. Core skills without their passive seems like a waste. Hell, many of the active skills without their passive is a waste.
Was just a bad RNG item, like many other items that roll bad affix combos. No need to overthink it.

Random is random. Part of the gear hunt is that not all gear is going to be optimal. They just all have a random chance to end up as an affix (or prefix or whatever). It isn’t set up to prevent one affix if another one has rolled. I guess it was different in D3 where each affix only had a specific slot it could roll on but clearly it doesn’t work that way here.
It’s just random. There’s no need to mess with it.
+Skill affixes can drop for whatever categories are available to the slot type.
If someone wants multiple core skills for some reason then let them.
Having an item roll multiple +skills in a category when you have multiple skills in that category anyways is pretty nice feeling.
I mean theoretically multiple core skills could be a good thing, it’s just gonna be niche.
Like for instance an Incinerate sorc using the Chain Lightning enchant with the restore mana on self chain aspect so that every 100 mana spent channeling Incinerate you get 18 (27 on amulet) mana back from a Chain Lightning proc (and you can tech this in any sorc build really not just Incinerate).
Necro has a legendary where Sever procs Blight and Bone Cage procs Blight so there’s another case where a build might have 2 core skills.
Avalanche sorc builds will likely run 2 spenders, I think the most common will be Ice Shards + Blizzard, but Ice Shards + Frozen Orb might be an option.
Druids have a key passive where skills they cast proc skills in the same category, so core earth procs core storm for example.
