Hey so I made the switch to WT3 sometime last week, and I was expecting to have gear drop with higher item power. For the most part the drops have all been between around 550-620. Some pieces I can upgrade into the next breakpoint, but most I can’t. So is the only option at this point to grind it to 70…switch to WT4? I’m ok with this, just need to know if not to really expect better gear right now. That way I can change my focus.
Basically yes, get to WT4 as soon as possible, it is not locked by level by the way. You can go there as early as you can manage get through capstone (or have someone boost you through). Ancestral gear will have min req level 60.

If you want to play with someone you have to be in the same World Tier (so they need to have same world tier unlocked). If they have reasonable level/gear you can always consider boosting them, leveling in WT4 is very fast for anything between 1 to 70. WT4 is fairly significal difficulty jump. Outside of mob HP and damage they become way faster.

When I first jumped into WT3 (after soloing it all), I swear I hard very hard time killing things.
Now, it’s pretty good. My ST damage is brutal for a range rogue IMHO. Prior to going into WT4, I do wanna finish up all renown and Altars, just so I get a little power bump.

They help more than ppl think especially through unlocking additiona power on Rare nodes on later Paragon boards.

Item power is useless. Stats and afffixes is what matter.
Sure, stat range depends on item power, but if your affixes are bad, a level 830 item will be worthless.
ie: item power does not magically increase your damage or tankiness.
Not entirely correct, DPS on weapon and Armor on well, armor… is scaling with every single point of IP. Especially that damage on weapon can make massive difference.
Item power does help when trying to get higher percentages in the specific categories you are looking for.
