I have recently made it to level 50, and its been rough man. Im not sure what i have been doing wrong but any and all gear i pick up has been at least 9 levels below my own. I dont know if this is intentional or not but its made the game way harder than i think its meant to be. Recently even on world tier 3 in the few dungeons i have been able to solo, the gear drops are way underleveled. Can anyone shed some light on this and what is happening? Do i just have really bad rng?
I was just about to post about this same topic! I thought Diablo wasabout getting better loot, not constantly crafting new loot improvements for cash. It also cufrrently hurts more as there is no way to craft items although we are hoarding so many materials. Why have a blacksmith in every town if all they do is scrp weapos and armor just cause. Yes, they can improve what you already have, but no, they can’t make anything which is an odd design choice as item drops do not scale with enemy levels.
I am curious how long it will take for the devs to finish rolling this game out as it feels incomplete after level 50 and the game is trying to force me as a player to higher difficulties without the proper gear to have fun at higher tiers. I really hope the devs are holding back a lot of features for a features rollout when the first season begins.
I was about to post this too. Im level 18 and all my gear drops at level 5 and 7.
Level 60. Gear drops for me in the 40’s predominantly. Definitely makes the crappy gear that barely works with my build even crappier to see them show up that low a level. Its not affecting me too much just yet, but the longer this goes on, the worse its going to get. I’m in WT3 so…I’d have hoped that gear would be closer to my level, but its just…low.
Just awkward since they had item drops that were relatively on point with your level in D3.
If you’re lvl 50 and still on tier 1 or 2, you aren’t going to see higher lvl drops until you bump up to tier 3 (I was lvl 60 before I finished the campaign and capstone, lol)
Also, according to the Campfire Chat they did on YouTube, the devs want people to pay more attention to item power than item lvl, ie just because an item is lower lvl does not mean it isn’t an upgrade.
my issue with that focusing on power level, why attach level number to it then? To me right now, it just seems like its there to inflate gear grinding.
Item lvl is more a way to prevent twinks by preventing people from putting high lvl gear on low lvl alts
That change is completely useless and honestly makes alts feel much stronger instead because getting items that have the same level requirement as your character is exactly what you don’t get normaly during leveling.
When my druid goes around with level 15-20 gear as a level 33 but my alt can get some hand-me-downs level 33’s at 33… guess which character is outperforming the other?
I really just feel weaker as I level up because the gear isn’t keeping up with the scaling of the enemies.
This is true in WT4 where item power is more important than item level, but there is no way that an item 13 levels under is going to be better than what I currently have on WT3. I’m level 56, and I predominately get level 43 drops. There’s roughly a -200 difference between a level 43 drop and a level 55 drop.
Let’s be realistic here, this is all for the sake of player retention. The longer it takes players to get their coveted BiS items, the longer they play. The longer they play, the more likely they are to purchase cosmetics. The more likely they are to purchase cosmetics, the better the game looks to shareholders.
I honestly haven’t looked at ilvl since at least lvl 50 (I am currently 68). This is because I way outleveled t2 - I was 60 before I completed the campaign/capstone.
I definitely think there is a problem with the lvl scaling that needs addressing (both items and monsters).
Change the world tier to 3 champ.
The game is definitely weird like this. I had 24 legendaries I think drop from level 1 - 50 and 2 of them were for my build. 80% were for frost build and I was getting repeats. So I just chugged along with whatever scraps I could find.
I stuck it out to WT3 and now, ironically, I’m doing way better than WT2. My time to kill is like 1/3rd of what it was in WT2 cause I finally got some decent gear and the paragon nodes really, really helped my build.
I imagine late game I’ll be back to feeling useless but for now it actually feels like I can clear some content and not take all night to do it.
This is the reason most RNG based games have some kind of crafting mechanic - cause if the RNG gods are bad to you then you need some way to try and level out the playing field to ensure your character is in a somewhat playable state. However Blizz decided to remove crafting last minute lol.
I wanted to chime in here as well about this issue as I’ve noticed this as a problem. Blizzard needs to fix it so that the ilvl of items are within a few levels of the character; otherwise, your main just gets punished while your alts laugh their way through the campaign.
Not when D3 originally released. I remember giving up on my Monk reaching the 3rd difficulty tier (I forget what the names were back then) as all the gear dropping was like 10+ levels below his level, while mobs were 2+ levels above him. It just became an incredibly frustrating and tedious math game.
…But that’s exactly what is happening now, though. My level 30 Druid is getting level 20-25 gear drops, while my level 20 Rogue, who is getting level 10-15 item drops, is salvaging everything while using the level 20 hand-me-down gear dropping for the Druid.
This makes no sense. Why would angry, annoyed, frustrated players be a) more like to keep playing, b) spend more money on the game? It’s like:
Car salesman: The base price of the luxury car is $90,000, but has no bells or whistles.
Buyer: That’s way too much money, especially without any of the bells and whistles.
* Car salesman kicks Buyer in the nuts. *
Buyer: Oof…you got yourself a deal!
Why would you even do WT2?
It was my first character and I didn’t know any better.
and then what? Every gear you find in WT3 is still 10 levels below
Scroll to the bottom of those pieces of equipment that have the golden border on them
I’m level 63, Currently I am finding level 63 items AND level 43 stuff. The sacred items seem to be higher item level drops.
Except that I’m not talking about ilvl and the level requirement on the item. Playing on world tier 3 and going 3 days before I find a single piece of gear that is closer to my character’s level while having whatever stats I’m looking for can be frustrating.
This is part of the problem. We reference D3 to D4, and somehow its almost like we’re referencing games made by 2 different companies half the time. As though all the QoL stuff can’t exist because Blizzard was caught unaware that this was going to be an issue.
While I appreciate the game for what it is, they shouldn’t have been surprised by the complaints
