It doesn't feel fun though

I love ARPGs, I have a lot of time in D2, and thousands of hours in DIII, but for some reason I am not finding the gameplay of D4 fun. I can overlook every other issue, but this is what is causing me to not pre-purchase.

What did they mess up? is it the open world aspect? Is it the level scaling? I am not sure what it is, but I am clicking away and finding myself bored enough to just exit the game when this experience should be like crack on Christmas day.

Sadly I kinda felt the same. I mean…it SHOULD have been fun…but…just wasn’t (for me at least). I think it had something to do with the slower pacing of the game. Which…for a lot of people is just what they wanted.

Lord knows this wasn’t the frenetic pace of like…the Doom reboot, but…yea I dunno there were large chucks of just walking around with not much going on. Did anyone see any movement speed attributes by the way? I remember starting a D3 Season character and they were sure slow at the start, but picked up the pace pretty quick with gear I think.

I like the slow burn pace of the game. I really like it.

I have to force myself into keep playing to reach lvl 20 more than once, even when I was off the PC I didn’t want it to log in, all I felt was “ugh here we go again feeling weak and slog”

The combat in D4 is more tedious than in D3 imo. I’ve spent the majority of my time in World Tier II in the betas, so I don’t know if World Tier I is really that much better. In WT2 at least, even normal trash mobs seem to take just a bit too long to kill.

if you’re into metal or goth stuff, this game feels like home, its dark, slow, eerie and depressing atmosphere.

yesterday i found it kind of boring because summon necro is gone, but after i leveled up and tried different builds, i feel at home again.

maybe try another build or class?

i dont think its the game, its just you not into it

Listen fellow D2 player, are you mad that there is no D2jsp here?

In previous two beta weekends I’ve leveled every char but druid to lv 25 and I had immense amount of fun. I’ve kept playing Necromancer long past lv 25 and enjoyed every second of it, killed butcher, killed Ashava multiple times. I really, honestly had lot of fun and everyone I know had same opinion.

This time around I’ve finished leveling to lv 20 in about 2.5 hours. After which I’ve grinded dungeons and events for about 5 hours. In that time, leveling included, I’ve haven’t seen single legendary drop, gambled one. I have no builds to try, I know that chance of next legendary drop being useful is slim and that it can take 10hours for each drop. Additionally, even after tons of dungeons portion of my gear is from level 13, that’s how low upgrade rate is.

My enjoyment of the game compared to previous beta ground crashed, I’ve killed ashava, my loot from ashava was removed. I have 0 motivation to launch the game again as of the moment.

Game that has builds, hence gameplay, pretty much entirely based on gear with extremely low drop rate just doesn’t fundamentally work. I want to experiment with builds, if I get 1 legendary each 7 hours with chance of next one being either useless or same I don’t have reason to keep trying.

I went to check whether world tiers increase drop rate, well, they don’t.

Everything else I am perfectly fine with, atmosphere, combat pacing, mob diversity, audio and graphics are top notch, potential, legendary effects and uniques are incredibly well designed, potential for builds is endless. However I refuse to to just grind 5 hours for tiny chance of upgrade, otherwise I wouldn’t hate Lost Ark in the first place.

I don’t know why D4 gameplay doesn’t feel like crack like other games, either. Is it just more tedious?

I think itemization is really boring. Whites and Blues are useless and Yellows are the same boring 4-stat Yellows from D3.
In D2 I was excited when Yellow dropped and Blue were kinda ok too.

They did not improve this since D3. I think end game will be fine but it is said that first 70 levels will be waste of time basically, just like in D3.
I like D3 thou, played a lot but it could have been much better in some areas.

It is the absence of the feeling of powerful progression.

Yeah, same itemization as D3. They could have done something a bit better but didnt. At least something like torchlight 2 or grim dawn but nope, its nearly the same as D3. The slow movement does lead to a bit of a persistent yawning when engaging with the game.

It’s definitely easy just to quit the game and play or do something else. It’s nothing addicting like lets say a civilization game with the “1 more turn” desire. There isnt this… let me just play another 20 minutes that turns into 3 hours… type of feeling.

I feel it too. Not sure how to explain it. I still enjoy it for the most part. I don’t enjoy having player RNG to do a boss. I do feel overwhelmed grinding dungeons for stat item buffs. Glad I didn’t play a Druid. Seems every dungeon has a Druid item stat buff to grind out. Having to walk everywhere, for now, does suck. Would be nice to have more ways to get around. There is just all these little things to do and drags everything out. I still ordered it. After all it’s a game and patches will come to buff or nerf things.

I would like an Offline mode. Not sure if it has it and I missed it. An option to change the level of an area to NOT change to my level. Like going back to a level 12 zone at level 20 to clear out something that was missed. Maybe I missed that option too. I miss the stupid over the top rag doll effects that Diablo 3 had. It seems to be missing that positive emotional response to watching a corpse fly through the air. I would like more character options on customizing. Even free games have more then four faces.

Shrug That is just me. I already bought the same. Who’s going to listen to a sucker.

I enjoyed the open beta for the most part that I pre-ordered the deluxe, but server slam? I mean performance was better (despite the game crashing and rebooting my PC), but like others have said, I found it tedious, never fun.

I was on the fence with level scaling but playing the past 2 days, made me realize I hate it. There is no sense/feeling in actually becoming more powerful. I ended up refunding and will wait a year or two. For myself 2023 has too many games (or DLCs for older games I play) to waste $130 (CAD) on a game I will likely drop after playing through once.

You feel powerful with new and more skills comming, you are just blind if you dont realize that.

And blizzard hotfixed minions, they are more survivable again.

I think the genera really needs some innovation…besides just adding some MMO elements. Just feels like more of the same thing. I bought the game to play with some friends otherwise I would be getting a refund hate to say it…I’ll probably play for a season and be done. Hope I’m wrong about it.

It’s a beta. You’re playing a beta. Beta is incomplete. Reserve your review of the game until after you’ve played more than half of what the game has to offer.

The game comes out in less than a month. The “it’s just a beta” doesn’t fly, this is more or less what you’ll get at release.

yes, game feels boring as hell now, there is hardly sense of reward since legendaries drop rate is so low, and on top of that , classes that were alot of fun to play are now so dull with almost all of their builds nerfed to oblivion.

Thank god it’s not going to be overcrowded by people who are hard stuck in the past…

All the best to you.
