Is VoH Worth Buying for Returning Players?

Hey,

I was considering coming back to D4 to play the expansion considering it is now on sale. I didn’t want to pay full price for the game because Blizzard is now a greedy company.

I quite enjoyed season 5 after they updated the itemization–still not as good as d2 itemization though.

Regardless, is Vessel of Hatred worth it now that it is cheaper or should I wait for a deeper sale? Is it really that much different from pre-expansion season 5?

Thanks

If you like the base game, you might enjoy the VoH. If you do not like the base game the VoH will not do anything for you. The VoH and seasons are not the same thing. Like any expansion the VoH has new features that the base game players do not have. You will be able to try out the new OP class for free.

From November 19—December 2, any who haven’t yet purchased Vessel of Hatred will be able to experience this acrobatic warrior firsthand when playing on Battle.net. Try this new class up to Level 25, and channel the fearsome new powers of our most mobile class yet.

You’ll be able to seamlessly carry over all progress earned from the Spiritborn Trial to the Vessel of Hatred expansion (if purchased), allowing you to pick up right where you left off—no extra steps needed!

“Is it worth it” is ultimately up to you, you get a discount so there is that.
But I would tell you to log in before purchasing anything and make sure the game runs without crashing for you first. Yes even if it was working before.

tbh do plan to play D4 in future?

they “balance” the game around mercs, runes, & the ability to farm the VoH dungeon.

The question solely comes down to how much you like the base game. If you want just a little more of that and are willing to spend the cash for a little more of that, then go ahead and purchase.

The mercs and runes add a few more tools to spice up builds. The Spiritborn is broken beyond belief right now, but once fixed it’s still a fun class. This isn’t D3: ROS or D2:LOD, though….those were game changing expansions for their games. There are people that simply can’t imagine those games without those expansions. D4:VOH is like adding a lemon to your ice tea by comparison.

I really enjoyed VoH. You missed out not buying it right away though. Now that everyone has already completed their characters or are finishing up the ingame world is very stale and most people have moved on to next season. The Dark Citadel raid was awesome even if it could use some tweaks. I would like to see a longer raid with more people REQUIRED not 2+. Its a raid. You should need 4 players minimum. So that was my main complaint with the raid. The campaign was great until the end. The ending of it was complete garbage so the story is dead now and I don’t think anyone cares what happens to the characters in a future expansion because they killed the story off with how bad it is. So imho I think it was worth it at launch. Not really now. It will get balled up and thrown in for free in the next expansion anyway.

Wait for a deeper sale and see how it’s progressed from now until then. Also what Irres said, a decent amount of players have had crashing issues non-stop since the launch of VoH. Make sure the game actually works for you first.

Right now my current rating is a 6 out of 10, hoping it will get back on track in S7, and then better by S8.

First off, Id wait for a massive price cut, not their best work

Secondly, that is a loaded question. Just looking at the massive changes this game made in the past 2 seasons, there is no telling what the game would look like come next season should you decide to buy.

Im not afraid to admit I probably want a different game than most players (dark, difficult, actually challenging), but either way it seems S7 will be make or break for d4. They are either going to slide back into the same crappy casual d3 mold, or stake out an original course for an original game. So personally I would wait until after S7 launches in January, that will let at least me know the state of the game.

With that said, I would not be advising getting it now, come S7 it will probably be a whole new game once again, and who knows what direction it will take?

Whatever you buy now will not be the same game come S7, its currently pretty broken atm and how they choose to fix it will determine the future of the game. Unless you have a lot of disposable income Id surely wait. The issue isnt the current state of the game (yeah we all know its broken AF) its how they plan on fixing it

No. Buy a key for PoE 2 and you will have 10 extra for a Pizza.
Vessel of Hatred might come to GamePass at some point. If you are a patient dude, you should wait for that.

Stay tunned for what they add anyways. My advice is for the current state of the game and poor optimized content that the DLC brought to the game.

No. Next question please!

It’s not a question if it is worth buying or not. It is a question of how bad the game is going to be if you don’t buy it. If you are actually a “returning player” then you have to get it, sooner or later. There is really no other recourse.

really do appreciate the folks who bought this and are advising to wait. I myself did enjoy the base game but the DLC seems very poor in comparison to what Blizzard North did back in the day.
It seems it is plagued by the same thing that happened to D3: less people work on DLC and seasons…

I will say the mercs are a dumb down version of d2 and d3… they do not have equipment slots, only 2 active skills vs the robust skill line of d3 mercs.

Runes are not like d2.

If you like the base game, you might find this enjoyable. Do know that your class will be underpowered compared to the spiritborne. The gulf in power is massive.

I’m a returning player that has yet to buy the expansion.
side note, I am playing hardcore to spice it up

I find the season 6 theme very dry and akin to the Iron Wolves one, in which you gain rep by doing the seasonal event that pops up every once and awhile. Rep gains you rewards at a vendor and the event drops a beefed up XP potion for you. That’s the extent of it.

Base game is still the same, with some small changes that do not alter it all that much from what you’ve already experienced.

No runes, mercenaries, new zone or new class without the expansion.

You cant play D4 in a min maxing way without Expansion, as you will be missing some power from rune words and mercenary. There is one mercenary called subo which give you map hack ability which is great for farm heltides and speed run pit.

The undercity also give you infinite boss mats if you play in group to share the boss mats tribute, which conveniently drop from the ladder boss you are farming. This 3 features will be the main reason you want VoH, of course the Spiritborn is op. Better to buy now to unlock your Pit 150, as it will get patched next season. After all the bug fix, this class is still very strong. It has a unique weapon which let you overpower with banished lord talisman every attack, and a unique helm which do more damage than mythic Heir of Perdition. The class has a lot of synergy in all skills, powerful, high mobility and very fun to play even after all bug fixes.

It’s worth a buy unless you’re in the poorhouse but it’s feeling more and more like it’d be best to wait for S7 given how poorly S6 has been going. :stuck_out_tongue:
