I came back to the game ever since I stopped in season 3 and while a lot has changed the game still feels the same.
The game is sooo freaking easy, like with just a basic build Im running through the hardest mode before torment with my lvl 25, Just spamming buttons on cooldowns. I know you can raise the difficulty later, but just increasing damage and health to make the game harder isnt fun.
Also there are a ton of enemies and spell effects you barely see whats going on, just keep pressing buttons ftw.
I used to love D1 and D2 where enemies are actually scary and you can actually see what you are fighting and doing. The level up process to endgame was actually fun not just a grind you have to run through to get to endgame.
Im also still drowning in legendary loot and mats. Thought they changed it to make loot less and more valuble. I feel like Im getting more Legendaries now.
Just to calrify im not a PoE player so this is not a comparison, but I feel like D4 is just too far gone to be fun for me anymore. Ill push this season and see, but I dont feel that will change.
The problem is they want a wide audience, as wide as possible for more MTX.
When this is your goal, if you make the game too hard, the people who wear helmets while gaming will complain. If it is too easy the people who play too much will complain. There is no winning here.
D4 is D3v2 and you either accept it or you donāt. A game for people who donāt have to do anything but walk around the map. Check out Grim Dawn maybe you will like it.
Itās sad when you have to include this in every negative sentiment surrounding D4. Blizzard fanboys literally would rather see their game fail than adopt one QOL feature from POE.
For all the blame people toss at CEOs and corporate structures there is just as much to lay at the feet of moronic game developers. Iāll write it again. This game is done. Itās too late, these people are too stupid, and they just canāt do much better at this point.
The ācombat is meaningful right from the startā feature wonāt ever get turned on, thatās my prediction. It has mobile-game-feeling combat during the leveling process - and I expect in late endgame the encounters get challenging but not tactical (idk yet), i.e. hard-hitting damage sponges that donāt do anything interesting & therefore the player doesnāt have to either.
More specifically, the mobs donāt āmatterā on the way to late endgame. Will forget what they do, will forget what player does in response⦠because itās just gear vs hit points, with colorful baubles in between. This has been my top complaint about D4 vs previous games (tied with monotonous loot) - that part of the gameplay experience is lifeless & plastic, & I donāt think itās ever coming back.
The devs probably understand that this is why the early leveling period needs constant innovation in other systems (probably why S2 mechanic was so popular, and S7 is the most faithful to that imo)⦠so as to hopefully keep players from dying of boredom⦠because to make combat encounters meaningful in pre-endgame would frighten off the most reliable demo (imo) which is non-arpg players who want a shower of baubles and badly accented larping NPCs recreating that mobile gaming one-tap experience on a non-phone.
Im playing at pentient and its still pretty easy, cant play torment till I get to 60. Also more numbers isnt harder, it takes no skill just good gear to beat harder difficulties. Give a monkey with a controller good gear and he will do fine. Spamming skills on cooldown is just not fun
The 1 to 60 grind is definitely easier than in the past. Especially if you regularly upgrade gear, temper, use appropriate aspects, and add seasonal powers.
Itās when you hit torment where you have to start refining things. Torment 1 isnāt bad and everything works here. But advancing through the torment levels will require you to refine your build to make progress.
Unless Blizzard does another stupid like the launch spiritboring. You could not bother upgrade anything and defeat pit 150 while rolling your face across the keyboard.
