There are so many amazing games coming out in the upcoming months: Final Fantasy 16, Armored Core, Starfield, and even POE2, so tell me, what is the one thing that Diablo 4 has that the other games don’t that make me want to come back to buy the season pass and cosmetics?
Is it to experience the story AGAIN? No, I would be playing FF16 or Starfield if I want more stories. Is it the ultra-complex min max grind to get the perfect build? No I would be playing POE2 for that.
In my honest opinion. It’s the unique and fun top down ARPG combat flow (+ a reasonable number of different builds that I can try) that even POE doesn’t have that attracted me to play Diablo 4 and even Diablo 3 before this. That’s what set your game apart from others and that’s what makes me want to play more and buy season passes.
So why are you telling me those side quests have to be done again if I want more paragon points? Paragon points make combat (Diablo 4’s biggest advantage) feel more satisfying by making my character stronger, and you are telling me nah I can’t have that unless I do some bad side quests that are way worse than probably even the worst quest in Starfield?
When the game crashes and I saw my refection on the black screen, I will just ask myself “why don’t I just play Starfield or Final Fantasy or any other games if I “love” the side quests so much?”
People like stronghold not because it has good story but because it has amazing combat + stories. 99% of the Side quests, however, has 0 interesting combat and is just running around.
Edit: Yeah, I know it’s not that many side quests but why can’t they just give renown by killing bosses like Diablo 3? My point is playing the side quests goes against everything that makes D4 fun.

Yes. They aren’t going to add new quests, content, gear or anything else, just make us do all the Renown all over again.

so in the 50 levels you have with each new character you can’t get a few renown done? renown grind is fine, it comes naturally and it’s not necessary for builds until the very very late game, e.g. 90, until then you’re frontloaded so many paragon points from levels it hardly matters.
You don’t have to redo all the side quests, but you will have to do SOMETHING
Basically you have your choice:
-Do all the dungeons and just a couple side quests
-Do all the side quests and just a couple dungeons
-Do an even mix of both

I suspect what will happen is side quests (and dungeons and the codex) will be a thing for a season or two, as you only really need about 15-17 quests per zone (if you do all the dungeons) and there are like 40 per zone. Once they get older, more ways to obtain renown will be introduced and it will become more of an option.
I think eventually the codex will stick as well and you’ll not have to repeat that as they add more features into the game. They’ll probably add another tier of renown at some point, etc.
I’m fine with them phasing out the stones and exploration and later phasing more out, as I’m sure a lot of players have not even maxed renown
They spent time on all of this content and they want to ensure it gets used. Once it’s used, new stuff will take its place over the seasons.
My suggestion has been to tie renown points into battle pass progression
Yeah, I know it’s not much but why can’t they just give renown by killing bosses like Diablo 3? My point is playing the side quests goes against everything that makes D4 fun.
It comes naturally until youre forced to do side quests. Why is such a significant power gain behind stupid side quests that make you go kill 5 snakes because they cant do it themselves? Also why cant i accept quests and talk to npcs on my mount so i can gtfo faster
No ones doing all those again is the point…
I mean they met us in the middle. Seems fair to me. I wouldn’t have played the way it was in the past. 17 quests a zone doesn’t take long and you can split the dungeons and effectively do 25 for 100 codexes
And again, this kinda stuff will phase out. Plus, if you do 17 quests, there’s about 20 you haven’t even done per zone. Not bad since it’ll all be new
I mean, I will. I’ll just do them while leveling up. Probably get to 2000 renown in each region by level 25, long before I can even use those paragon points anyway.
What are you gonna do, just start at level 1 and grind the same dungeon on repeat until level 100? That sounds rather dull.
Yeah, not that many side quests needed so it seems “fair” but does it seem “fun”?
I’ll be honest, it doesn’t
but manageable
If I am being honest the season side quests is even worse. Every time I create a new character I need to re do all the season quests even though I have done them all. It is a pain and it blocks you from being able to use the hearts. This is clearly an attempt to keep player retention and nothing else. Please remove the need to complete the season story line over and over if you want to keep more players. The update 1.1.1 is very good but you still cannot keep players because all you think about are numbers and sales. Not a very good way to do business in the gaming industry. I should know I work in it. A lot of games I worked on are dead now simply because in our case the client did not listen to us or the players feedback. They only wanted to either break even or make a tiny amount of profit and leave the game as is. I have one game I worked on that never has new content and never has new quests even the battle passes are recycled from previous seasons. They legit made two battle passes per season on for materials and one for cosmetics. They don’t care about the players just money. When the game breaks it takes them weeks and weeks to fix it even us on the PS side of things we got told they solved the issues and never did.
D4 is doing the same thing. Trying to min max their profits and that is all there is to it. Your game will fail and POE2 will be better because they listened and even upon early stages showed they listened.
The side quests are the thing that will keep me coming back to the game, I love the little stories, the unique interactions you have with NPCs. The only problem is spreading them out, if you just do them all at once on one character then you leave yourself nothing new to do on a new class you may try. And you have to do the same side quests over again.
The side quests are my fave thing in the game, I only hope they add more of them because at the moment I am deliberately drip feeding them/avoiding doing too many so as to have new ones to do if I make a new toon.
