This is the one change in the announced season that honestly worries me. I don’t really see what motivation a person has to play much at that point, honestly?
It’s already pretty bad when you hit level 100 and have no more power progression to look forward to. This is where most people are going to check out of the game. The item game is too shallow to support play beyond that point, and I don’t see this really changing in the new season. It’s just going to move that point from “welp I hit 100” to “welp, I rolled a new character”. It’ll make the first 50 levels or so more “fun”, I guess, but by the time you hit Torment you’re going to have a few days at most before you exhaust the season and leave.
There are some long-term solutions where I think this could have been a good idea, after expansions where the item game is improved, we have a more limitless leveling system, etc. Having your paragon build unlocked permanently would be fine if there’s another alternative advancement system that is infinite, but that doesn’t exist in D4. It just feels like another change where they gave in to popular demand without really thinking about it… and it doesn’t work because the entire game was designed in the first place around non-infinite paragon, and this being your main avenue of endgame progression. If cross-character paragon had been intended from the beginning, I’m sure the mechanics would look very different.
Am I taking crazy pills here? Does anyone else think this is a bad change? I just don’t see how I’m going to want to play the season very long if the main way you progress your character after 50 is gone.
Paragon Points aren’t even usable until level 50. What’s wrong with having extra points right off the bat if you already grinded them out on another character?
Lol, I’m a retard. I just woke up and read that whole subsection as “all paragon points will be unlocked all the time”, instead of “it’s renown only, dummy”. Whoops. This topic is pointless I guess. Oh well.
I suppose to make it 1% more than pointless, I’d throw my 2 cents in that I hope they at some point integrate some form of infinite leveling. It doesn’t have to give any power, or maybe totally superficial levels of power (like +1 HP per level, I don’t know), but something like the original D3 paragon system where it was just tracking your grind and gave no improvements to power level would be nice, rather than feeling like XP is totally worthless at 100.
You know, you made a cogent argument and I find myself agreeing with your premise. Once I hit 60-65, I’m about to check out. Once you get your full build going, that’s really it. By this point you have done the dungeons, campaign, probably a lot of side quests, etc… You do helltide a few times after the first capstone dungeon and then what else?
I also agree that there needs to be an alternative advancement system. After all, they call it a “live-service MMO”, you think you could have more progression systems.
Someone posted about the removal of Renown grind was a tad misguided.
Adding Variety to it would have been key.
We keep the 1, 2, 3 Tabs as usual.
They add Whispers, Legions, WB’s, Random Events as well as small % increase to just killing monsters to regional renown.
Basically simply playing the game and leveling = being done by lvl 50 easily. We would just have to explore a bit, but that’s what we do early game anyway.
vs
Locked to only Dungeons, (!) quests and 3 Strongholds per Region.
Variety, player agency and ‘something to do’
Now? “Reset this Stronghold XX times” “Do Dopamine Tunnels 500x” gah…how anyone can stand to do that irdk.
Now it’s rinse and repeat Dungeons to level and NMD all day every day.
I am very much opposed to any sort of infinite level grind. It punishes solo players and adds even more incentive to the spam the most efficient dungeon forever.
Still, there probably are ways to make XP still have some meaning past 100. When you hit level cap in WoW, any XP you’d get for quests is converted to gold. That exact system wouldn’t translate to D4, but you could probably have an XP bar to fill up that rewarded a cache with gold, mats, and maybe a chance at cosmetics when you hit certain thresholds. Not something that felt necessary to grind out, but something so that as you said, XP doesn’t feel totally worthless at 100.
Not only it is a good idea but it is the main reason why renown exists
Personally I’d rather have them remove the WT1/2 bonuses and unlock renown bonuses at WT3. That way the biggest bonus (paragon points) kicks in the right time as well as all the other bonuses
It will also keep the freshness of new characters intact
For some players it doesn’t matter. They will still get to level 100 regardless of what season it is. For those casual who only login once a week, yeah, that power fantasy is going to be great. For three weeks, then it’s a reminder of going back to the grind.
What power progession do you look for?if you talk about NMD…that’s bad…there’s no reward if you did high tier NMD…blizz should reward in more good affix items or less sacred items, max cap legendary(e.g 0.5 disobidience aspect), or more gold 7-10k (not 900-4k gold) since reroll cost was crazy
Or maybe u played it 20hrs/7days?it automatically make you bored…so no need to make the game feel like a job except you r streamer like that one (who growth by doing barb content only till barb take down to the ground)
by better items, one would assuming higher item power, thats in generally better right?
no not really, it only works for weapons, for armor the different is insignificant
you want higher quality affixes? sure why not, but then again the pool of affixes are way too big, you are flooded with trash affixes it doesnt matter if they are maxed out, they are still useless
you are still spending more time sorting your bags than playing the actual game.
maybe reward players with more drops then? well now you spend even more time sorting your bags due to how loot works in this game…because legendaries are generally worse than rare , due to the absurd amount of gold required to reroll.
the problems are just compounding, they need a complete overhaul for loot as a whole
honestly i think the storage slots are ok, its just that we now are forced to hold onto a lot of aspects instead of just storing them in codex, same goes with gems and seasonal items…
Sad change. Seems many want it easy and want to jump straight into the “fastest exp” path to grind grind grind. D3 culture . I don’t like where the game has went or is going. Quite sad as my hopes were quite high
I dont think they will…we see the result many many times…for the season 1 we already experienced it…we want respect cost adjustment, blizz said fine…in addition i’ll give more trash affix (barier generation for rogue, shrine buff duration) so the reroll in occulist automatic become more aweful…its the newest prob with respec cost reduction vs reroll gears…before that we also got hit by slog progression…lvl scaling probs, they gave us open world with lower lvl than our char to focus on NMD, actually it also wasn’t the scaling prob…but the coding in every lvl mobs, you can try with new char when you fighting bees and wraith family low lvl vs 50+ lvl, (meanwhile the goatmen, tusk, bear families already hit hard at lower lvl and they still the same at higher lvls)
TL,DR blizz didnt like we had fun…so dont hope too much for overhaul, that so sad…
I kind of hate the way D3 paragon system is, because I can only really play a seasonal character. If I play my Eternal ones, they stomp everything into the ground as soon as I get those points.
Why this happened?simple answer…from start blizz target casual players…bro…if I’m blizz…i wont listen to that 1% players base…why?are they loyal to me?nope…they still leave the game…i prefer listen 99% base players…more players more money…listen to that 1% players give benefits?not really, imagine that 1% players about 10k players…than from that 10k only 1.000players (10%) spent every penny for blizz…i choose the 1million players even only 70k (7%) players willing to spent their money…thats depend on how blizz make the cost for skins
The targeted market already clear at beginning (casuals), so plz the 1% dont ask too much to blizz, by listening that 1% especially some spesific D4 streamers the game drop so hard (nerving barb, sorc hydra beta patch, and many more) that streamer also the same guy who said the game ez but when got new patched they also whine the game being chore…every company listened to who give them more money…some streamers were like clown, again i said some…
