lol Ashara hard? Beat her first time, disconnected mid battle. Exited the game, rejoined and still killed her. I do like fights like this though. Not too many players to be ridiculous.
The backend of the connections needs work because I think it booted me because it detected me at a 13th person despite being there an hour and a half prior.
It doesn’t have to be hard to be fun though. Proper balance is important as Diablo 2 is not hard either. It’s got some things in it that are horrendously balanced because 1.10 broke it that still aren’t fixed. Like before 1.10 undead doll explosions did 1/4th of your life on an elite. Now an elite explosion does so much damage it will often kill you 4 times over.
That is not the kind of difficulty I want to deal with. It’s stupid difficulty. I want a fair challenge that can’t result in a 100% loss scenario. The game already has too much unavoidable chip damage. You will need to spend months grinding to beat certain bosses because of this unavoidable chip damage.
Diablo 2 for instance has no unavoidable chip damage in the game at all except for Diablo himself. You can dodge just about anything except for enemies that were made too fast in the 1.10 changes. The damage his chip does do is balanced out by having infinite pots anyway. Diablo 4 does not have infinite pots. With how cheap and unfair some mechanics often are it probably doesn’t give you enough.
One boss that wasn’t that hard last beta, has an undodgable move that takes 80% of your hp now that can RNG to be back to back. So they can RNG to be unwinnable too.
The PvP hit squads. They exist vs hardcore too. You really think it’s fun to lose a week of your life to a bunch of jerks pking you? I’ll sure be one of them. Back in Diablo 1 I was one of the most active pks on the server who didn’t hack anyway. I likely killed half the people I killed ashara with in diablo 1. It will get a lot of people to quit if that is their aim though.
The thing is they will abandon this game if people don’t purchase micro transactions. The people who are likely to do so are probably some of the people who will quit to hit squads.
Hardcore likely to not be effected at all. They often play through the game first to even check if hardcore is remotely possible before they do a hardcore run. They might not hardcore this game. I don’t see hardcore as a viable or fun way to play this game so far. With undodgable chip damage and entire pk zones you will likely have to run through.
It’s more important that viable criticism is not ignored in the favor of e-peen. E-peen has 0 value and is not a good metric to make a fun game.
That said they better not release the game with the first beta legendary setting on either. I got 4 legendaries in a row in the same dungeon. At the same time I got other games to play too. So if they require all my time I’m out.
This can very easily be the worst game in the franchise if they do it wrong. It’s already starting to play extremely bad. The leveling in the first beta was more in line with the speed of Diablo 2. The experience in the server slam was pretty terrible overall unless you were a rogue. Sorcerors weren’t even that fun because they over nerfed a few of their abilities and the ones they left us with are the boring as hell abilities we don’t want to use.
There is plenty of criticism to be had with this beta. Honestly I almost refunded after I beat ashara because the game was going to be too easy once I hit max level if that is the experience. Difficulty is second though I don’t want them to repeat the same mistake with Diablo 3 either and make all of the abilities just boring magic missile clones with different skins. If I can’t use the build I want to use in end game then I don’t want to play the game period. My builds are min/maxed to hell and back, but if the actual actives aren’t fun then waste of time.
