Or am I?
I can’t seem to make it at all useful. It just feels like it kills too slowly.
Then again; Sorc feels like it’s just in an awful place; It almost seems to want people to multi-element (Most elements work well together, but tend to suck if you focus on a single element), but it’s Key Passives force you to single-element.

Not sure about its power as I haven’t tried but the biggest problem with it and any channeled skill ever is that it forces you to stand still which is a big problem. Channeled skills need to be either very damaging / have built in defensive bonuses / or they will always just suck.

This has been a problem since launch.
Last I played no dot damage crits, so it really is never going to be any good going full fire.
No amount of fire damage stacking will save a full fire build.
And yeh stuff dies extremely slow, everyone else just runs in and asplodes the screen.
You are playing the buffed incenerate, it used to be even worse.

I leveled with Incinerate + FWall from 1-80.
It was…fun. Certainly different. Spent like 3 weeks turtling at 82 resisting the “BL urge” until I finally switched.
OMG Love the playstyle - hate the fact it’s so imbalanced vs all else and will likely be destroyed by the devs vs tuned, balanced. Nerfhammer inbound.
Anyway, Incinerate - I don’t know all the in’s and out’s of mechanics and I probably built my Paragon improperly(without a doubt) - BUT I’ve come across this said and that discussed and a vid here n there - there’s problems with it and some interactions etc.
Just like everything else.
It CAN work if done properly - it won’t be a BL but it won’t be my weak pew pew either.
As I said - It was fun. At 80 I was a tank, never died once 1-80 and was able to clear NMD 70’s with my crap build. Very safe build albeit slow.
Varshan though and Bosses in general - Omg pull up a seat, grab a coffee or tea…and a book. it’ll take a while.
I never died…but boy was it tedious.
Probably my build’s fault. Knowing the mechanics, perks, weaknesses and what really stacks or functionality - I’d gladly make a new Sorc and go back to it in a second. Kind of late in the Season for it though.
Thanks for the info, all.
I guess I will stick with my usual build:
Spark primary, slotted to Glinting Spark.
Chain Lightening secondary, slotted to Greater CL.
Hydras, Invoked.
Blizzard, Mage’s.
DeepFreeze Ult.
My Enchantments are:
Fireball (Makes enemies explode, causing chain reactions)
Blizzard.
I tried to use Firebolt Enchant (Direction damage applies Burning) with Firewall (Lucky Hit: Any Burning has a 25% chance to spawn a firewall) to see if the passive burning on allattacks could proc it…but it seems it cannot.
Because Blizzard seems to dislike fun synergies.
I tried exactly that myself.
Didn’t work.
Incinerate has a terrible LHC so it was a flop all around.
USING Firebolt though spawned plenty of FW.
I envisioned a decent number of Firewalls proc’d. Was disappointed.
Though to be clear - I was NOT built well: Gear, Paragon and Skills at the time. I’m tempted to respec with my current 68% LHC and gear I’ve accumulated for Fire and give it a go out of sheer boredom with BL.
Well I just hit the infinite Evadamorphosis and 4sec Tele…so It’s really fast and fun right now. Only need a Shako now.
Maybe I’ll make a new Sorc after all and try it out.
You reminded me haha. Darnit!
Incinerate is OP with this season, you got several vampiric power for channeling skills, and with some burning paragon you can really burn everything very fast. Quite ez to play.
Yea I bet.
Sadly I can’t build my way out of a wet paper bag.
Got a build or source to share?
I’ve got the itch to revisit it properly vs my novice winging-it attempt during leveling.
They could just allow you to walk while channeling. Makes no sense to stop. Do you stop and stand still when you use a garden hose to water your garden? You can also walk while using a flame thrower IRL. There’s literally no reason why you can’t channel on the move.

Sorc overall is in the best place it has been since launch. Not just BL.
Incinerate works well with Firewall, but it is overall on the weaker side. There was a time when it was much stronger than now.
I can’t seem to solo the holiday boss as Sorc.
Granted, I’m only level 30…But it just feels, no matter how I duild my skills, that I do so little damage.
I’m getting the same problem with my Necro; Feelsl ike the Necro does garbage damage because he has pets, but those pets also do garbage damage. x.x
I miss when spellcasters felt like dangerous characters, and not wet tissue doing paltry damage. x.x
Lvl 30 may be the issue, he goes down to my AoZ lvl 100 build easily. Everything in this game is only a matter of level and gear.
It depends at what point and what content you are asking. I would say in general Incinerate is subpar if compared to builds like Ice Shard, Ice Spikes, Firewall, Chain Lightning, Fireball etc. Let’s exclude Ball Lightning for now.
Open world: Any build almost works. Incinerate is fine. If you can’t do well with Incinerate in open world, you probably suck as a player
Nightmare Dungeons: I think it’s okay up to NM 80s. Higher than that you can feel the fall off if compared to other Sorc builds. It’s quite rare to see players who can do NM 100 with Incinerate. I am probably one of those exceptions who has done NM 100s with Incinerate but I won’t recommend it unless it’s for the challenge.
AoZ: I haven’t tried Incinerate with AoZ before the nerf and after nerf. I think nerfed T1 is probably doable with Incinerate. I have doubts if you can comfortably clear T5 though. You can but the keyword is how comfortable. If T5 is like NM 100 and Incinerate is already so-so against NM 100, I can already foresee T5 will be a struggle with Incinerate
Uber Bosses: Doable. Someone already has shown beating Lilith with Incinerate.
PvP: Doable but not as comfortable and as strong as BL or Firewall, or even against Conjuration.
I question anyone who is claiming Incinerate is strong. Against WT1 yes it is strong. But against NM 100 or T5, it’s so-so.

I have it a whirl again this season because it’s a favorite skill of mine (I wish Blaze would come back) and while I never did get a Flamescar, I don’t think having one would save it.
For starters we need a Staff that buffs it, because you really want as much base damage as possible when going for any DoT strategy - except maybe some jank firebolt spam which I briefly considered because of the Vampiric Powers.
Speaking of which, those are a huge help but still don’t make up for the weaknesses.
Fire in general is too mana hungry (Warmth needs to function like it did in D2 and just passively increase Regen at all times) and it feels like you either can’t stack burning damage fast enough or are stuck waiting for an eternity for things to die.
Sorc as a whole is still in dire need of rebalancing frankly, because if you take away BL as it currently is the class struggles quite a bit.
Standing still is really not a problem if the damage is justified. The problem is that it doesn’t do enough dmg, at least not compared to BL or other powerful builds.
It needs buffs, not a redesign.
Problems is apparently it doesn’t BURN enemies!
It incinerates(Cooks 'em) but doesn’t ignite them.
That’s a core problem and a design flaw - at least in the current state of the game(Sorc Kit et al)

yeah, it says it “burns” but it doesn’t, so it doesn’t synergize with anything, limiting its dmg potential.
All sorc builds are good until the mid game or up to about 80.
Past that point, BL is the only one that is comparable to other classes.
I hated incinerate, chain lightning and charged bolts is fun, but not as strong as BL. I’d say chain lightning is my favorite and most fun to play, it just sucks at higher levels and can’t come even close to BL. Blizzard wasn’t bad this season. Ice Spikes is still solid.

Thats sadly how lots of awesome different fun builds feel. You chose your favourite skills, put lot of effort into optimizing it. But … (example):
- your 150.000 crits VS 50.000.000.000+ of another build using other skills
Theres must be something wrong

It would be interesting to see how much burning damage is actually possible to stack on an enemy, hydra was cool… but I imagine somewhere between 200/400k per tic without investing almost completely into a fire build, it’s not much at all
Investing in a fire build completely though might pay off?
I’d try picking up every source of fire dmg, damage vs burning and dmg with burning on the paragon board(there’s legendary node and 3 glyphs to buff fire/burning) and gear burning dmg can roll on gloves, x’fal for sure and have at least 50% lucky hit on firebolt(the enchantment inherits it), pick up those aspects that increase burning dmg while channeling and below 50% hp, Firewall enchant+Fire Bolt enchant(or I’d anyway stick to fire bolt and chain lightning enchant to get mana from the legendary CL node and make enemies vuln), I’d also run meteor with meteorites aspect, or Firewall and any damage aspect if you struggle with mana or aspect slots.
Maybe you can get to 1M per tic while enemies are below 50% hp while channeling Incinerate and after stacking a few Firewalls or Meteor with meteorites.
