Is Game Pass Core Required?

Hello everyone,

I see Diablo IV is on sale on Xbox right now and I’m thinking of getting the game.

I’m specifically interested in Single Player and the main story, and have no interest in Multiplayer.

Can anyone confirm is Game Pass Core is required to simply play the game? I can’t find a clear answer via Google, and I don’t want to buy the game only to find I can’t play it at all because I’m not subscribed to Xbox’s multiplayer service.

Thank you!

Its one package.

No matter what version you purchase, you get the full game installed. The extras are just extras they can unlock.

Hope it helps.

I don’t think you need game pass to play it, unless you want to specifically multiplayer. I don’t have xbox, so can’t verify this, however it should be detailed I would think under the shop info if it were required.

Update.

The core is required for most games. However though for multiplayer you need either Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or a subscription to Xbox Game Pass Core (sold separately).

There is also some contact options and even a support line for Xbox if you want to reach out and verify anything.

Thank you for the reply, @DTMAce.

Earlier this year, the game’s store page specified that Xbox Live Gold was required to play the game at all, but this was removed a bit before launch.

I did post on the official Xbox Discord and was able to get an answer: Game Pass Core (or Ultimate) is not required to play the game, but the Multiplayer features will be locked out for me (which is fine).

FYI Xbox Live Gold was changed to Game Pass Core a month or so ago, so they’re basically one and the same: Xbox’s subscription service to permit multiplayer gaming.
