Hello first timer here!
One of the dev team people on twitter asked me to post my “feedback” here I hope it helps.
Diablo 4 is beautiful and even though I’m new to the franchise. I can see why people love it! for me I can’t seem to find anything that is inspiring to go deep into the game. It feels like the higher in level I go the more restricted by build has to become, let me explain:
I am a Fire Sorcerer. Around level 30 by build completely stopped killing enemies. I checked my gear, and it’s up to date, had friends inspect me they are WT4 and said it looks great. It took me 4 hours to kill a boss in a side quest dungeon and now I’m contemplating life. Here’s the loadout:
- Fire Bolt
- Fireball
- Flame Shield
- Firewall
- Meteor
- Inferno
I have learned that “Burn Damage” does not kill enemies in a normal fashion. So, what I’m doing here is Burning enemies with Fire Bolt and Firewall to get regen on Mana then use inferno to group them all up and spam meteor or Fireball to kill enemies. The game does not tell you that Fireball removes burn damage from the target to spread it to surrounding enemies similar to rupture from Barb. The main issue I am having is that fireball is the only skill that does it. The other issue is that the damage is so low that I will die before the enemies will.
I love fire builds because of “The Division”. In the first game you could make a fire crowd control build and with the help of my friends we added self-healing via skill damage. What I loved most about that was this skill that allowed burning enemies to ignite other enemies on fire within 5m of the enemy. Enemies on fire panic, spread the fire and the panic, me and my team get free shots for a short time. The reason why I bring this up is because I am looking for this kind of gameplay in the diablo with fire sorc. I see it all there in game with the passives and all, but I can’t kill anyone with it.
Why does this build not kill anything after level 30? Fire Bolt and Firewall deal high burn damage but low “normal/hard”? damage. What happens in combat is solid health bar goes to 0 really fast, but transparent dot health bar moves super slow per sec. While the enemy is still attacking like nothing’s wrong, I have no way to remove or deplete the transparent health bar. Meteor tries but isn’t very strong, Fireball only removes a third of the enemy dot hp but only to one enemy at a time. This is why I am stuck. I could use Ice Shards to do more damage but that’s also only to 1 target when the entire mob is on fire and focusing on 1 enemy at a time is not helping me survive.
Its literally the same issue with my Barb but with a twist, Loadout being:
- Flay
- Rend
- Rupture
and some shouts
With Rupture it removes all bleed damage from a target and spread the bleed damage to nearby enemies, with Rupture on a default 10sec cooldown. I die before I can use it again. I have tried Death Blow to kill more enemies but that does not work, and HotA. It just feels like there’s a huge gap in how to execute enemies with dot damage. Except not with poison, poison on Rouge and Druid seems to work really fast, is all dot damage working the same? or is Fire and Bleed working entirely different? were the values nerfed because of the betas or some build? IDK!
All I know is this is how I want to play the game with my Fire Sorc and Bleed Barb, but it seems like it’s not possible long term. I have seen others completely give up their personal build because of these issues to just use “meta” builds because the “meta” builds are working.
My question about this topic: is this normal for diablo games?
Do they all force you to stop playing what you like skill wise and force you into the same loadout as the next guy using the same class at higher levels? I want to play the skill that I liked natural progression. I don’t see and legendary or Unique Aspects that help my build at all. So, to me I don’t see a reason to farm gear. Looking online there is nothing that supports this fire build that I like, and I don’t want to use the Ice Shards “meta” build either.
I know I’m new, so something is wrong that’s okay, maybe I am missing a passive or maybe this all gets fixed in the paragon thing? idk but I would like to see something that gives me a reason to set everything on fire, something that makes all enemies explode or drains the burn damage to heal or give a damage buff. There’s needs to be a reason why I’m setting enemies on fire to give a payoff to something else something that completes the cycle. Otherwise, you’re a fire mage that’s burning enemies for the sake of just burning enemies…
Thank you, allowing me to express my concerns.
I know I suck at the game; I am new, I don’t understand the “gameplay loop”, and stats etc. but I am trying.
