After the recent buff it will give 40% crit chance up for 10% and 75% multiplicative crit damage up from 50%. I am desperate to get away from Enlightenment and I play on the Eternal Realm so the crit chance has a lot of value since I have no access to season powers to boost it.
For LS? No.
It would probably need to be 100% multiplicative crit damage to compete with Enlightenment, and that would only work for Lightning Spear.
it’s unfortunately still a garbage key talent. they all need significant overhaul, in line with Combustion. They need to do about 300% multiplicative damage minimum, probably more like 400%.
I’d say yes, it is viable, just not better than Enlightenment. If you really want to use it go ahead.
It’s genuinely useful for leveling and in early end game, I’d say, before you can get to a point where you have Enlightenment up permanently and when you’re still lacking in crit chance. It may also have a place still in builds highly dependent on attack speed if you aren’t hitting cap one without Aspect of Ancient Flame (like Fireball or non-Starfall Meteor). But basically once you have good gear and a mythic or two, a lot of what it gives you is redundant.
This. Particularly when it is pretty trivial to be crit capped. Crit hit damage is additive damage, heavily diluted. It needed to be multiplicative damage.
A few people pointed out it may be useful for Meteor or Fireball. That makes sense.
As this change says a startling ignorance of Sorc mechanics, and in particular how radically these passives need to change, I am not excited about Season 8. We’re gonna suck again.
But you’re excited for the camp fire next week, right? Right???
After this midseason patch and the remarks on the “difficulty” of class balance, when even the most casual observer notes the sporadic and trivial balance changes?
Not really I love this franchise, but Diablo 3/4 balance has been miserable.
Meteor. I will give it a go when the patch goes live and see how it does. I just hate everything about Enlightenment from the piano keyboard to the fact that until you hit 100 stacks it’s basically useless.
Yup, couldn’t agree more. It’s kinda wild that they can give us such crazy buffs and we still won’t be able to compete with other classes even as they are now.
I use it in my Meteor build. Always have…
Enlightenment was better last season. It’s harder to get and keep the buff. Esu’s should be viable in fire builds like meteorite. Vyr’s is dead. I’m going to try it out on my meteorite build.
Tried it out and more powerful than before. Damage more consistent.
Did some tests with my meteor sorc and it felt stronger than enlightment!
Yup, way stronger and much more consistent! Goodbye Enlightenment, you won’t be missed!
Its works great with a crit hydra build since crits work on hydra now.
The 40% crit chance is really nice because it lets you basically ignore crit on gear and even frees up a rune slot since you can easily get to 100% without having to use Gar now. Really great change.
Now they need to give the same treatment to the other passives, Vyr’s most especially because the 5% increase was a joke. I genuinely don’t understand how someone could look at it and objectively think 5% would make it viable, lol.
I play Fireball sorcerer and I would like to know if this passive is better than Enlightment now for Fireball builds?
People are saying that is a lot better. The increase in Crit Chance frees you to use better Runes and other affixes on gear.
