Is Enlightenment Mandatory?

Like the title says, is there really no alternative to Enlightenment? I recently came back after having quit before VoH even came out and never played with it before so it was an experience for sure and not a good one. For the most part I really liked Esu’s Ferocity for my Meteor build and Vyr’s Mastery for my CL build but now they all seem to be eclipsed by Enlightenment.

I find it super clunky and inconsistent. It doubles down on the silly piano keyboard playstyle that was first introduced by Tal’rasha’s unique ring and, imo, that endless juggling of different elemental spells just to get flat damage buffs is arguably the worst part of the sorcerer toolkit. Individual sorcerer skills have little to no inherent synergy between each other and the devs’ answer to that was to introduce things like Enlightenment and Tal’rasha’s instead of fixing the more fundamental issues that plague the class. At the very least they need to give us more aspect and/or enchantment slots to open up more build variety.

To crush T4, Hordes and so on you don’t need to use Enlightment. If you want to have the highest pit clear for a specific build then you have to.

For all Burning builds you use Combustion. For all Lightning Builds f.e. Ligthning Spear you can use Vyrs Mastery, too or no Key Passive at all.

To make it sure Enlightment is stronger than the most other Key passives, but you can clear T4 without it.

I dislike Enlightenment.

I advocate for Esu’s dealing 300% more damage while hitting one target

I think Vyr’s Mastery’s 10% proc chance is a joke. It needs to scale somehow.

Every passive needs to have, in effect, a 300% multiplier. Full stop. To put it into Context, Enlightenment is currently about 100% multiplier.

Enlightenment and Tal’Rasha’s are cancer. I’m so sick of playing the elements piano with my cooldowns.

Mathematically, Elemental Synergy does allow you to replace Tal’Rasha’s, but at the cost of forcing you into a mono-elemental build. I am very glad to have the option, but unfortunately you lose a lot of important pieces of the Sorc toolkit if you’re restricted to one element so it’s difficult to do and isn’t competitive for a high Pit push. It needs to have an upside to that downside beyond simple parity with Tal’s; it should be better.

anything under a sorcerer skill tree that has mult. damage is mandatory…virtually. and that is one of the greatest problems with sorcerer" that ties you to use them and kills build variety.
that is Why shako is not wanted anymore, because the 60% X damage is too good to ignore.
same goes to tal’rasha

Yup, separate multiplicative damage modifiers on gear should not be a thing at all. Not only do they significant limit build diversity by taking up item slots but they’re so powerful that not having them limits the kind of content you can do so you’re effectively punished for not having them rather than being rewarded for having them.

Multiplicative damage should only come from the skill tree and paragon glyphs/legendary nodes. Mythic items and aspects should be reserved for utility and unique powers that change up your build like adding meteorites or icicles or changing the way some of your abilities behave. They should never just give a flat damage bonus because that inherently makes them mandatory and it’s just bad design.

Hahah… yeah… my necro was running perditions… until the shako dropped… then I sent the +60% damage to my sorc because my necro is already 1 button facerolling T4 and the damage reduction is of more use.

We are talking about SORCERER, not necro
1d10t!!

Ummmmm what? Did you even read your own post? Here, let me put it in BOLD for you because your reading comprehension OBVIOUSLY needs work.

To which I replied…

Which again… because your reading comprehension needs work… means that once I got a shako I gave it to my necro who has a ridiculous amount of damage and makes better use of damage reduction…

… and gave my sorc the perditions because…

… and you called me an idiot?

This thread should be pinned on top of the forums as great instructions on how to completely own yourself.

Bro… get better at trolling and reading comprehension.

You fail gloriously at both.

I’m muting this thread now. Your ignorance is so astounding that any further replies aren’t worth my time to read.

Well put. I came to the same conclusion about the poster in question. I put him on ignore to save my own personal bandwidth.

Your reply was perfectly rational and sensible.

yes, I did…
this topic is about sorcerer and for your contradiction purposes, you included a Necro.
Heir of perdition has 60%mult. damage, making it a a must over shako.
the 4 extra skill points does not increase the damage as much as 60xM
but do not worry, you are not alone, there’s a lot of your kind… but at least they can be EDUCATED with time, love and patience…I guess

No one cares about your necro broken build.

That’s a little uncalled for. It is not the necromancer’s fault the game has terrible balance.

talking aboout Necro on a sorcerer topic trying and struggling to be right is really pathetic

The irony is that the necromancer is now more of a sorcerer than a sorcerer.
This is a tough brutal sorcerer, at least for this season.
So don’t gang up on the guy.
It’s better to create threads in the support section with messages about incorrect work of skills or lack of power. Maybe they will really get tired of it and they will fix the situation.

You got a point.
any class can do more elemental damage than a sorcerer… which is ridiculous.
