Is D4 just a better looking D3?

Do classes in D4 have around the same build diversity as D3, which is to say…not very much?

D3 has more build diversity than D4 and D2.

D3 is a much better game at the moment and has a lot more build diversity

D4 is leagues behind, D3 has more content, is more fun to play, has better objectives, and GRifts are much better than NMD

D4 has more potential, but the Devs need to step it up, because they messed up a lot with 1.1

Certainly D3 has more content simply due to time. If D3 has more build diversity then I really hope that changes soon for D4. Variety is the spice of life.

D4 is definitely NOT a better looking D3. Right now, D3 is a complete meme. You log in to the new season, you almost immediately get your full set, and then it’s game over. Greater rifts are atrocious for endgame activity, and sadly there’s no other option.

D3 currently better than d4 in every way. 12 year old game btw.

D3 was also better at launch compared to this mess. At least we didn’t know any better then.

Definitely more than D4, but you can complete all content in D2 with any build imaginable. You can even use class specific skills on different classes in D2, like the zeal sorc.

D2 has the most build diversity out of D2, D3, and D4, by far. But honestly, D1 is the king of build diversity. You can literally use any skill/spell on any character.

People say this but never really explain how. Where is the potential? At best it has the same potential D3 had since it uses the same engine and copied a lot of the code from D3. Most of the design philosophies also follow the same path as D3.

I’m not really seeing the potential at all.

No, D3 wasn’t even playable at launch, lol.

It actually wasn’t playable until years after launch when the new creative lead fixed everything, including the itemization.

This mostly stems from the fact that D3 was absolutely abhorrent for at least 2 years after release, so they’re saying D4 has a better starting point.

D4 is the depressed older brother of D3.

D3 is over the top colourful, fun, excited, silly, completely broken OP.

D4 takes himself way too seriously, is boring, bland, without personality.

D3 is really good. But D1… master Diablo.

Defs agree D4 is a better looking D3.

Build diversity you are completely wrong only because the D3 life cycle has been around a lot longer. I am not going to claim D3 was perfect towards the end but it was sooooooo much better than the dogwater we currently got served.
D3 also has a lot of ‘sets’ but thing I miss the most from D3 were the rune choices.
D3 every single skilled had an option of 6 runes. D4 your maxed skill only has a option between 2 talents?
D3 had a really garbage paragon. D4 paragon is better but they wasted a lot of resources on blue glpyhs and missed their own potential.
D3 had pets and wings (if you like that sort of thing). D4 has $37.5 skins with 0 particle affects for skins.
D3 had a banner system were you could instantly tp to your friend. D4 every single thing involving movement is garbage. I honestly think D4 has the WORST mount in video gaming history. I actually can’t think of a worse mount given to you in any video game.
D3 had working pets. D4 the devs only play necro and it really shows.
D3 had wierd af ubers. I spent 3 months on a wizard looking for a furnace in season 2. Literally over 100 days and couldn’t find one for my wiz :(. D4 ubers (pointless) are none existent and you don’t need to include them in your build (which I like better)
D3 legendaries were far superior overall, much more dynamic. D4 uniques are trash. I’ve been playing barb and druid and can tell you for druid you can probably use 4-6 but not all at once. Barb uniques all seem awful, with the barb core skills I actually find it clunkier than druid skills. Very personal take but I believe the current D4 barb is the worst barbarian I’ve played across the 20+ years of the diablo franchise.

D4 was clearly intended to be a lot different. It failed. The end game is far too empty to justify an open world. I am sure they were inspired by lost ark but they failed to add in their version of raid equivalents so we got an empty world with the same world bosses and butcher since beta. That didn’t get better with release as all the campaign bosses are stuck in the campaign and didn’t even get ported over to the end game. Currently we got Lilith and her ONE NEW friend for the season (I swear this boss better get added in permanently)

With all of D4’s failures it is easy to draw so many comparisons simply because if they designed the game off what made D3 work, we would have been pretty fine.
Instead D4 decided to be fresh. They took everything that made D3 work, chopped all the legs off and put it on life support. Now we are drip fed a finished game instead of getting a completed one (D3 was far from complete). With all that said though I miss so many builds in D3. If they ported even half the builds over I think we’d all be cheering. They had a lot of interesting builds for so many classes towards the of the cycle I’d love to see them again. Sadly I think they know what sets are popular and are saving them for disaster seasons down the future.

Personally, I didn’t pay $99 for the “potential”. I was expecting the build craft and end game action of D3 RoS combined with some improved itemization inspired by D2, all set in an open world. I only got the open world.

D3 atleast fun to play unlike this abomination of a game.

i think they used the bones of D3 to make D4. which would have been okay had it actually been more like D3 but they ended up making some kind of half dead, half alive schrodinger’s cat monstrosity and called it a game.

That’s a direct insult to D3

Until Hell, yeah. Then once the immunities start popping up, a lot of builds drop off entirely.

Well i uninstalled D4 a week ago, and installed D3 again. No expectations, no hardcore mentality, I just tried a new season character, and all I can say is that …D3 is FUN. It’s completely broken, over the top, non sensical FUN.

The new season mechanic where you can lift the item level requirement is so incredibly broken, but my god, is it ever fun to equip a level 1 alt with level 60 gear and blast through hordes of monsters on Torment 3, leveling up every couple of seconds. I mean, it’s in no way “balanced” or “fair”, but it’s FUN. You can run through rifts without having to worry about picking up a stone and runing around. You kill hordes of monsters. That’s that. Loading screens are snappy, porting to town is instant, the gameplay loop is tight, super tight. The D4 team just completely forgot to make their game FUN. That. really, is all there is to it.

No, OP.

D4 has the ugliest graphics I’ve seen for a “modern game”. You could have told me this is a game from 2009 and I would believe it.

It is austere is every respect.

D3’s graphics are better. They are a bit over the top, especially with a group of four, but still visually appealing.

Not quite. D3 has far more and better quality of life features. Itemization is effectively the same, just d4 waters everything down with an excessive amount of stat affixes. Not to mention legendaries are a tier above rares in d3 when it comes to affix ranges. But d4 has the upgrade system so :man_shrugging:
