Is chain lightning bugged?

I have noticed chain lightning not behaving as it should. It has disappeared while in between enemies, it has hit enemies and done no damage. I have had chain lightning bounce only once with plenty of other targets to chain to. Sometimes it doesn’t chain at all and just hit the enemy once. It is usually working as it should but once in awhile it doesn’t work as intended.

I’d have to look the next time I play my sorc. You sure it’s not just a graphical issue?

I’ve noticed the same. I’ve also noticed with suppressed elites it seems worse. Not sure if it’s because the bounces are being resisted or what? You can tell when this bug occurs because you’ll quickly run out of mana due to the bounces not bouncing.

In general it’s been fine for me, but I have been very confused about it’s interaction with the suppressed elites as well. Sometimes I blow through them, other times my mana bar just drains and I do zero damage.

I did some testing of this last night against suppressed elites. I believe what is happening is CL tries to chain to a mob outside of the “dome” which kills the chain. So you effectively get no bounces per cast and your mana is drained.

To counter this, you can kill everything in the room first, then the elite, but that’s a pain because mobs move around, some are in the dome and others are not. Or if you have Raiment, you can try and move them all inside the dome so the bounces stay within the dome.

It’s certainly a pain to play around and do-able, but slows down your pace substantially.

I still do think there’s an issue with bounces just straight up disappearing for whatever reason. I don’t think it’s common, but I do think it occurs.

I honestly thought the jumps just moved out of range. I didn’t think it could be bugged.

Yes, sometimes it does no damage and sometimes it oneshots elites. The damage behaves as if its the 1-999999999 from d2 but the numbers on the skill show normal variation.
