I’m level 24 and I can’t complete quests anymore my barb is so weak. I looked on youtube for some tips and everyone says to just stack shouts and whirlwind everything, every time. Wow, what a great game.
I’ve tried using upheaval and deathblow (I think it’s called) to do some pretty cool stuff, but the damn meta whirlwind is always in the back of my mind. Like why isn’t it balanced? You kill slower with other specs and die more often too.

Give this a try, i had the same issues at low levels. For some reason i cant post a link, but just google Bajheera’s Bleed & Thorns spec its on mobalytics. When you get closer to 50 and have acquired some legos start playing around with stuff, more than just WW for barb that is viable. I am running frenzy + upheaval and loving it.

Well whirlwind is extremely gear dependent so atleast until your 50’s you will be hota or rend w/ maybe death blow. Around that point those skills fall off and whirlwind becomes better.
End game, whirlwind is it. Oh, and every barb build wants shouts. Fury regen is terrible without them. Barb really has no choices lol

The builds you’re seeing are endgame builds with lots of synergies. Whirlwind isn’t especially great when leveling, and it’s hardly the only viable build. You probably need better gear.
Barb is weaker at early game. Stronger at late game. I have stayed away from ww. Using stun locks instead.
Still pretty squish lol
Untrue. WW is viable after 15. Its better in efficiency than rend, upheavel, and hammer. It takes some experience from early diabo games.
This holds for trash mobs which is almost entirely what youll be doing. Once you habe call of the ancients, you can trash single bosses .
Unfortunately spin to win is still the best. However, rend is close and clears pretty fast with less speed though, leap helps but but it bleed barbs depend on mashing other buttons while ww uses cd skills and …spins to win
I’m level 28 and the only quest I can’t do are Dungeon quest which require a boss kill. I am certainly not playing an optimal build. I’m using Bash, UH, RC, WC, Steel Grasp. It’s a lot more fun than rend, but not what I need. The cost of respec is starting to get up there though, but you should not be getting stuck on quest at your level.
I’ve used a deathblow build since I got my first weapon master aspect in my early twenties.
Level 59 and just unlocked World Tier 4. Got thrashed in the first dungeon I tried and slunk back down to 3 for more farming but it’s unlocked at least XD
please for the love of god go upgrade your weapons and items. DO NOT BE AFRAID to do this repeatedly throughout your play through because 1-3 upgrades are dirt cheap, no one can say they aren’t. Need gold? run 1 dungeon and you get 100k gold+ if you sell instead of salvage, more if you are higher lvl.
ALSO, everyone forgetting that a lot of times the vendor is actually selling insanely op weapons as you are lvling up, 50-100 damage higher sometimes. Save 2-300k and then every hour check in town. I just grabbed one for 300k and it upped my item power by nearly 100, that’s how broken that vendor is.

obviously not but whirlwind is the best at the moment out of every build for every class for every content in game except maybe for tb rogue.
at level 24, just stack your thorns, defense and whatevr core skill you choose… theyre all viable…
i did rend+thorn during campaign and then swapped to ww after the capstone dungeon
No….but it’s an easy option once you have all the pieces of the puzzle.
Problem with WW is it’s simple and easy to play once it’s up and running compared to other builds. Other builds are viable but often require you to combo abilities.
Endgame is pretty much whirlwind because it is the only ability that constantly will give you health without even trying. The designflaw of barbarian is that EVERY core except ww require you to stand still and it has the same problem as D3, you will get attacked by everything once you stand still… D3 allowed you to spam slams from a distance though, you can not do that in this game since you need to use basic attacks to get fury and there is no good in and out ability with a short cooldown in this game.
I have erased and redone my skill level tree, and I still can’t eat big time elites at level 34. It’s f-ing brutal… The barbarian sucks in this game… Dumb a$$ move blizzard.
Ive never played WW and never had any issues with the barb.
Im WT3 rn and still no issues farming.
You people need to git gud.

The problem starts when enemies don’t get oneshotted by whatever you are using and start dealing more damage than you can heal. Elites with millions of health will pummel you, cc you and make your life a living hell if they come with a greater force because you need to stand close to them and use a bad resource generating attack to get fury. I am level 67 and trying to get in to tier 4 is ok with ww but a struggle with rend, hammer or whatever when you need to stand still and the enemies can hit you. To generate fury for 70-80 fury attacks is a problem for all speccs except ww which does it without the need of many basic attacks, except on bosses which is another dumb designflaw. ww generates fury AND heals you whilst doing it, isn’t that a little unfair since it is the only self-sustaining ability? Barb in this game is 100% designed around ww.

You have a point there, and I wont speak to it until I get there myself, but yeah game feels unplayable without unstoppable or a way to manage being cced.
BUT
Go read up there, most cryers are whining about lvl20 30 gameplay, which is ridiculous
Better level as WW Barb because it’s the only really viable spec when reaching endgame. I made the mistake of leveling as HotA Barb and had to go through the painfully exhausting and boring process of replacing most of my gear so I could play on WT4 (it’s still hard because I still didn’t find all the gear I needed, but a much smoother experience than HotA Barb).
Don’t worry guys, Blizz will nerf WW some more and give us 2% more innate DR to compensate. They got this.

I think most builds are viable up to Nightmare if you gear towards what you want to do. The only thing I do not like is bash but it might be ok for an overpower/stun build or something if you get a 2 hander with 60% attackspeed for fast basic attacks.
Well I finally found a half decent Rend build that feels decent. It’s better than the other one I tired. Just search for “Bajheera’s Bleed & Thorns” D4 build. Not how I would have expected a Rend build to work, but it’s doing well so far for me @lvl 30.
