I recently picked for testing Damage Over Time reduction in my paragon and for a first time this season i felt somewhat tanky on my druid when clearing pit. Are Lightning Pylons, Cold Explosions and Fire Explosions considered DoT or something? I even tested it on lilith and suddenly the wave only hits me for like 30% of my hp instead of 80%, however the “X fire ground explosion” stays without changes.
Did you just find a bug in the matrix? More testing needs to be done I feel. I wouldn’t discredit your experience, just saying we need more information first.
not neccesarily a bug, but keeping those defs reduces my paragon damage by at least 30%, so It is hard to even pick the def nodes on druid, expcept for Max Life nodes which are must have or dont play…
Best testing place would be blood maiden fire ring i guess, but i dont wanna bother with helltides atm.
Well if DoT Reduction affixes/paragon nodes/etc. actually reduces damage from non-DoT sources, that would in fact be a bug. Also why I said we need more testing and more information. It would definitely be interesting to see what it affects beyond DoT damage if that’s the case.
well, that’s why im asking what exactly is considered DoT damage in first place =D
wouldnt be surprised if dot reduction would affect certain non dot spells. i mean, i love diablo 4, but we all know that stuff can get buggy at times ![]()
And I must say, DoT reduction is pretty special, as it is found only in the paragon boards right now.
I mean it’s in the name, Damage Over Time. So any lingering puddles on the ground that do consistent damage, or a poison/fire/bleed debuff that constantly deals damage per tick until the duration runs out.
Your original post made it sound like you took reduced damage from instant damage, more so then DoT damage. A one time hit that deals a specific amount of damage (not overtime) should not be reduced by this attribute is what I’m saying. I still feel it’s a bug if this is the case, but again, we need more information. Need more people testing this.
there might be possibility that any fire damage is always considered DoT then, or there was just some other thing in the making when i was testing. Cannot be sure, as those nodes i picked “by the way” while testing sommething else but just died too much.
If this is true, it just helps confirm that the damage model D4 uses is in taters and needs a complete overhaul.
For example, that recent bug fix for damage to bosses helps prove there’s different damage calculations for damaging a boss compared to other enemies.
From a design standpoint, that should NEVER happen and screams incompetence from both the programming and design teams.
