Iron Maelstrom is such a cool skill but unfortunately required Blizzard developers to think carefully how to make it worth to use. But first of all, it looks like each attack of the Iron Maelstrom has its own CD, which, literally causes some tricky issues, such as the skill shows ready but have to wait 2 second to use the second attack after first one. Why not just use one CD for the whole skill?
The skill is unusable as is regardless. The dmg numbers on this thing is insanely low. I hadn’t actually put it on the bar in awhile and didn’t realize some of the attacks are less than 100% weapon dmg, like what.
It could be 2000% and it would still feel like hot dirty garbage.
The cooldown issue was fixed last season but reintroduced this season. Thanks to Unbroken Chain, it was possible to get Iron Maelstrom to below 5 seconds. It seems whenever you press the ultimate skill, it forces the barbarian to use different skill sets. This is what lead to the separate cooldown.
You know this got me thinking. Maybe it is possible to swap out the skill bar to a different one at the press of a button.
Blizzard just needs to abandon the idea of Ultimates entirely. If every Class had a 7th Skill Slot dedicated to Ultimates and these Skills with their CD reflected this in their effectiveness, sure. Most of these Skills could just be reintegrated as Weapon Mastery, Brawling, or Defensive Skills, Aspects or something.
IM has always been bad though and Blizzard has no idea what to do with it. It is the Jack of No Trades. Gives you WA, works weirdly, and even with a ton of investment it is bad. Can’t bind it to Ramas and don’t get the full effect from Wallop/Heavy Handed nor Bleed. It just does everything badly. Making it a Primary Skill would entail being able to spam it constantly and even if the damage was good, it still just feels really bad.
I’m actually using it to quickly activate and refresh Walking Arsenal this season because I’m sick of CotA, WotB and other key passives (except Barbed Carapace) lol.
I can cast it every few seconds and it counts as 3 CDs used for Yul rune. I had hoped it would count as 3 ultimates used for Zan rune but alas.
Yes tested a bit more today. This cooldown problem can cause the whole skill disordered, with the slash attack being used first, then dual, then hammer. And this leads to another problem that after hammer there is around 3 seconds cooldown, which cannot be reduced by any of the skills that can reduce the CD. This is very bad unfortunately.
