Initial S1 thoughts

After a level 100 sorc and rogue in eternal, I was sad by the nerfs like everyone else. Season 1 had me hold on for some major change to say:

“Cool! Glad I hung in there!”

S1 released, and I’ve played a good 12 hours of it. I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m very burnt out in a full restart of levels, gear, aspects, resources, and now milignant hearts. Not only do I need to make more space for these “gems” along with aspects, gems, and gear, but I sit through reskinned content looking at all the new ways to part with my money in season pass. It reminds me painfully that Blizzard is here SOLELY for 1 purpose: make a profit.

As an average (somewhat casual) player, I love the world and lore of Diablo. This model of stick and carrot isn’t ideal. I lack the motivation and will probably- as the trolls say- dodge the door so it doesn’t hit me on the way out.

Yea i returned just for S1 and holy crap is it a money grab. I had a feeling that the really cool gear would be in the S1 store after evryone already bought into the game and i wasnt all wrong there.

I even get the season pass, my dumb self bought the $100 Diablo 4, and im not even sure i want to finish it. So far its straight disappointment.

Feeling is mutual, Wrath. Maybe I’ll go learn another language or build a house.

I’m taking it that season 1 is not all that lol

Yeah I quickly gave up after realizing there’s no ladder rankings and the malignant hearts disappear after season, no point in re-grinding a new character for a quest line

So far im bored as hell. All thats really been added is 1 new enemy type (malignant) that spawns every now and then a terribly boring and empty feeling questline and some ok (just ok) hearts. No new area’s or armour sets or character class or dungeons or events or new world bosses. Just nothing.

I think I will go back to eternal but with the nerfs i wont be playing as much as i was.

Maybe try to not play for 12 hrs a day. 12 hrs of anything in one day is not healthy.

I am not thrilled about having to grind gold, materials and renown again….but it is what it is. Was hoping they didnt do that but whatever.

I dont know if i will get the second season after this first one. Depends how quick i can get to 100 with how they broke the game after getting to 100 on my necro preseason.

Leveling seems to be a bit quicker now that i have played through once already, but it would be nice if it was a tiny bit quicker than it is.

I lost steam last night and probably not even logging in today. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and started season 1 yesterday. At first it felt like Diablo. Hack n slash, try and gear up as fast as you’re leveling and decide how you want to play your character. At only about 20 it ground to an absolute halt. By 25 I was in a slugfest with a basic armored skelly wondering wtf is going on, and where did Diablo go? If I want to play dark souls I’ll play dark souls. If I want 40man raids on some Uber boss I’ll play an mmorpg. I’m playing Diablo though, my expectations are lots of mobs, lots of explosions and lots of loot. All of those expectations dashed at only 25

Did you by chance wander into Kehjistan or Hawezar where you aren’t supposed to go in base game until level 40+ or try a stronghold in either of those two regions where they have bumped the mobs up to 45+

The strongholds are still clearly labeled with the levels but the actual zones indicate player level. Monster level is also at your level visually but they do hit much harder and have significantly more resistance.

Also packs of machine gun poison wasps all around the old Caldeum overlook. I definitely wasn’t ready for it to hurt that much, then I realized I was level 25 and not 45 like the last time I was here.

Consider yourself lucky. I can’t even create a seasonal character, despite meeting ALL criteria.

Having to re-grind renown, re-unlock aspects… all the forced “redo” is a frustrating chore, doubly so post-patch. This kind of slog is the opposite of why I’d play a game like Diablo. This version of the"live-service" business & development model sucks.

Try blasting a soundtrack in the background and make a goal like; I’ll get enough materials for this new piece of gear or I’ll take some elixers and go 3 levels, do some whisper quests and get the cache…etc. You’ll begin to pace yourself and enjoy each encounter as well as notice small details here and there. I’ve been playing like this since day 1 and am loving it. Doing a Sorc for S1 and got to 20 yesterday :call_me_hand:t4:
Hope this helps

You’ve got 3 months for the season. If you feel burnt out, then take some time off to play something else and come back later. No need to rush getting it done right now.

Where is the fun in that @barbearien ?:joy:

I need 100 right meow so that i can camp noobs in the pvp area.

Seriously though. Got my necro to 100 in just about 3 weeks. 3 months is PLENTY of time for someone to get to 100 even if they are “casual”.

I will rush, well because “hurry up and wait” is what i am used to. Them i can just grind t4 endgame content for the last couple months.

I dont know what people are all up in arms about. There is PLENTY of time.

Right meow! lmao

I played a barb pre season, so my leveling was slow. On top of that, I don’t get to play as much as I like thanks to life getting in the way. I’m playing a necro this time, so hopefully I can get farther this time around but honestly may be lucky to get to 100 if the grind after 70 is as slow as people say it is.

For me I made a new toon to try it out. I agree with a lot of what you’re saying - it’s the same grind, same side quests, same dungeons and the only new aspect of play for me is the new class. Otherwise it’s the same rinse and repeat. I’m not even finding the caged hearts all that good - so many repeat ones where’s the variety? All the progression is just cosmetics and like someone said grinding for the same aspects you already had isn’t fun. As a side note I did find it funny that my first Eternal and first Seasonal found the Butcher multiple times in the levels between 9-12 - almost a guarantee in each dungeon - and he puts the hurt on you - then disappears until level 55 lol. It’s like he purposely shows up when you have no chance to do anything except bleed on him and then runs away when you can give him a fight.

After logging in after the patch I was extremely disappointed with the changes. With that said, I’m playing season 1 and I’m playing a different barbarian build than I did in preseason so it makes it more entertaining. While I was disappointed, now it just makes me realize I won’t ever complete the final challenges in the game and to be honest, I’m fine with that.

I’ll play every season because I do enjoy the game. And if anything, it’ll give me something to play for a few weeks every 3 months. I do like the season pass giving me something to work towards each season, but will I buy it every season? Dunno if I will or not, but it’s not terrible.

I suppose leveling from 70-100 being slow is subjective. It also depends on what said person is doing to level.

I personally found (pre-patch) that 93-97 was painful with a capital P. But 97-100 was a breeze. 99-100 was 12 or 13 lvl 56-62 NM dungeons i was able to solo. Tried to solo a 60 NM dungeon after patch, and while i did it…it was kinda tough. Don’t mind that challenge though.

Again, it depends on what people are doing to level up. If someone just does world farming, events (wb or legion), helltides and tree quests, it will probably take a LOT longer to level than pushing one’s self in higher level dungeons.

I truly believe that blizzard is trying to force people to get out of their comfort zones with this game……rather than just cushy item farming.

Ya…he’s a jerk haha. Dude cant even fight one on one if he is getting his backside kicked. He’s gotta go and pull adds to help him if he is losing.
