It’s very difficult to trade/plan/stash when we have no idea if the new expasion in April and new lvl cap (70) will include yet another gear “reset”….why the silence? just inform your player base please.
New level cap would typically mean a new item level, or even a rework of items yet again. I’d put money down on this myself. That being said they never told us about the item level changes for VoH until the PTR that hit before it launched. We got a while.
agreed, it’s a shame they choose silence…well, frustrating…especiially since we all on eternal just “re-crafted” mythics….yes, i know…eternal doesn’t matter….
Well I figure it this way, the cube along with the talisman system will add two more layers of progression to your character. Now we don’t know what the cube will do, but based on the trailer, it did show a sword becoming fire enchanted/imbued. It could technically be another layer of crafting, which as we all know, makes the previous items ineligible.
Even if we don’t take into account the level cap increase, or an item level cap increase (or reduction in the case of a number crunch), it would still mean your older items would still turn into Legacy unfortunately.
Also the kicker is, for VoH the level increase and item changes were system wide, not just for VoH. It didn’t matter if you owned VoH or not, your items became obsolete as soon as S6 patch hit. We’re not even sure if the level 70 cap will be exclusive to only the LoH expansion or not. This is kind of unknown territory right now.
If you watch it close it looks like some type or “runes or charms” are being put into the sword.
Shows two different runes circling the sword, then being absorbed into the sword, setting it on fire. Upon closer inspection:
Both runes look identical with their markings, and they are runes of ritual (the top pieces). The only rune that remotely comes to close to looking like these is in fact the EOM rune. It’s similar, but not exactly the same as the ones shown in the trailer.
However you can clearly see the EOM is an Invocation, or bottom rune, not a ritual, or top rune. Where as in the trailer, it shows a ritual, or top rune. Personally speaking I think it was just chosen to give an idea what the cube might do, rather than being a 1:1 of what rune was being used and/or for what purpose. Could also just be a brand new rune too.
However runes may very well be used in the cube along with your items to change them. Which would lead back to the whole crafting thing, and any current items going into the expansion being obsolete anyway.
I find it quite easy.
Step 1. My character goes to Eternal.
Step 2. I press Delete.
Step 3. I make a brand new S12 Character.
#winning!
lol…touche. …but for those of us that don’t choose that path….
Thanks all for the contributions…my “easy” way is stash all 2+GA items just incase and horde all mats
in most game that dose a level cap increase will always have some sort of gear changes either they increase the ilevel of the gear or do another stat squish adjustment like in VoH. It common to see current gear become obsolete or remain somewhat useful for a short time. The question will be is what route they take. Which mainly impact eternal players in the beginning but at the end you still need to farm new gear with what ever changes they do for the new level cap.
Okay - I’ll give you a serious answer.
I believe the only items worth keeping will be amulets with Passives. But even then, it’s a craps shoot, because we know for certain that the Skill Tree will be undergoing big updates. There’s zero guarantee any given skill in today’s game will exist in S12. They could be merged, split, renamed, reimagined, deleted, etc.
That being said, I have unverified information that Amulets in the expansion will be limited to just one skill increase affix instead of up to 4 as it is today.
great info. Thx!

Why would you get frustrated? Of course the game will change once the expansion comes out. No one needs to tell you this.
Yes, it will. That’s how expansions work. They don’t need to tell us this. It’s common knowledge.
10 more levels does not in anyway indicate an Item Power change. They only did that before because the change was drastic, going from Lvl 100 down to 60 and changing to 300 paragon. This seems more like a few extra skill points to account for Additions to the Skill Trees in the Rework.
Not saying it “can’t” happen, but Character Level and Item Power are independent systems. Also, changing Item Power at this point would basically undue all of their recent balance and itemization changes, which seems like a lot of extra work for a team that always takes the path of least resistance.
Frankly, the gear reset seems unnecessary in Diablo 4.
By following these forums and even here in this very thread I learned that the Eternal realm has no meaning so the game is entirely about starting from scratch anyway, whether there is a new season or an entirely new expansion.
While this sounds like sarcasm, it really is not. Content doesnt care what player level we have as it scales along. What argument is there left to force another equipment reset besides for Eternal realm players that play this realm exactly for not having to think about regular resets in the first place?
Yea, leaving items Legacy is one thing, that implies leaving them the hell alone in their current state, as you had them. But them always going out of their way to ALTER (nerf) the pre-existing gear even when it isn’t necessary for their changes is mind boggling.
You’re not wrong they are different systems. There also may very well be other games out there that increase the level caps but don’t offer upgrades to the items you obtain. Blizzard just doesn’t usually follow that logic with their games.
Increasing item levels wouldn’t undue their new system though, it would just add another layer on top. Remember that armor and resists both have huge diminishing returns the more you get. So if anything it would open up the damage a bit more.
This is assuming they don’t number crunch again, which they very well could. There was also talks of adding new torment tiers due to the item changes as well. Which is where you might want that little bit of extra armor/resists.
We’ll see though. As I said it’s kind of uncharted territory for them based on what S6 did, and what the expansion actually gave us. The content itself that was added was separated from the number crunch and redoing of the levels. Not to mention the difficulty tiers.
I’d still bank on items becoming obsolete and/or possibly nerfed. There have been 4 reworks for items to date. Would not surprise me if the expansion brought a fifth.
Every season the game resets.
No reason to try and plan for future seasons to play until they launch.
Since when? Character level goes up and item power that can drop goes up. IF not you would still get items below 750 at level 60 but you dont.
All items on eternal will again be useless when level 70 hits. 99.99% chance. Quote me in future! IF wrong I will take 2 weeks off forums.
No need for a new level cap or change in itemization to have all Eternal items made legacy and unusable, just as it happened this season. There won’t be a word about it, not even in the season patch notes, just as it happened this season. You will discover the disaster when you log after the rlease of the expansion.
My advice for Eternal players:
-
Farm Boss mats, especially Husk because Belial is the only Boss giving decent items
-
Farm Runes and masterworking mats (you might already have plenty if you have been playing Eternal for several seasons)
-
Save your UC Tributes, the ones giving Legendary and Mythic items
-
And more important, fill your inventory with Whisper caches and Obols bags. They will be more valuable than GA items
