There is much I do not understand about this event. First off. I have not played since July and now have been back for a week or so. This has been my first exposure to Infernal Hordes. On some IH runs I can get over 300 of whatever it is you are gathering, but on my last 4 runs now I have not even cleared 200 so only 1 chest for all of that work seems pointless. What am I doing wrong? What is a good run in the IH?
Thanks to all that provided some guidance and experience. This can be considered answered.
certain IH events for sure are more rewarding than others. I think most people pick boons that spawn hellborns, and combine that with anything related to it.
i think the least liked one would be soulspires. Clearly, the better your AE clear, the more events spawn, and the more points youll score.
Some of the variables you select effect the potential amount of dropped currency. Selections for Hellborne are your best value, as they drop the most and can appear frequently. Selecting ones that improve special enemy appear are good too.
Avoid spire modifiers and end fight modifers. They don’t tend to be worth it.
Focus on Hellborn and buffs to aether fiends (surging hellborn and surging elites are best). A good run is over 1000 Aether, or 1500 if you get lucky). Take the 200 Aether chest, then the materials chest. It’s still probably the best way to farm obducite.
There are some guides out there that go into way more detail than this, but these basics should help:
Try to stick to 10 round compasses if you can as it reduces the chances the RNG will prevent you from hitting 200
if you want the gear chest open it first as other chests use all remaining Aether
Prioritize Hellborn first and Elite options second whenever you can
Avoid Summoned lords and teeming masses unless you have high dps, as Lords slow the regular mob spawn rate while they are active, so if they don’t die very fast it will hurt your haul
Try to avoid ones that do not directly increase Aether
If you get multiple Hellborn options Surging > Exalted > Burning > Invigorating
If you get all options that do not directly increase Aether pick one that will be most effective for your char at killing more faster (i often go with the one that pulls monsters into spires in this scenario)
IF you are strong enough to kill lords very fast the one that spawns a mass at the start of the round and the teeming masses can be a nice combo when you are not getting Hellborn
IF you have a ton of compasses and can afford to waste them, exit and start over if you don’t get summoned Hellborn at the start of round 2 (there is speculation that the first choice you make influences options for the rest of the run)
For me the “Best way” tends to be different depending on class/build, for some of my chars Hordes are better for others Undercity is better. Either way nmd is for sure #3 for all my chars
All of these replies are spot on…but if you really want max aether just create a Spirit Born and follow any popular build. This is the answer to all rewards in D4 until S7.
Doesn’t really matter what options you pick then…
it’s essentially dps, apm, and luck in the game.
increase your damage per second (dps) so you can defeat monsters faster.
increase your actions per minute (apm) to ensure your casts and skills are coherent and continuously synergize with each other.
finally, luck plays a role, hellborn options are more lucrative than others if you manage your dps and apm.
My ball lighting and chain lighting sorcs both blow the doors off my quill volley SB for hordes, in spite of sorcs capping out in mid 90s pit and SB clearing 150 and speedrunning 135
I suppose they do have decent gear but noting earth shattering. I have 2 Mythics on the BL and one one the CL but with the exception of a 3ga Talrasha on the BL its all 1 GA not that hard to get stuff. both sorcs have crap amulets and neither have ideal GAs on all items, so it’s not total junk but its far from perfect.
I have grinded like mad but most of their gear is stuff i have had since week 3ish as items with 2+ usable GA has been practically non existent.
the SB has a 3 star kepeleke and a 4 star banished lord but the rest is all 1 star that I have had since week 2
hi there, even without perdition, shroud armor, and starless ring, the CL build can still perform equally well when using ancestral legendary gear.
i’d say axial conduit, frostburn, and azurewrath are the three uniques i need.
don’t use ice armor, so there’s no defensive skill on the bar.
print the aspect of tenuous destruction onto the staff or amulet.
use the rune dark shroud for defense if necessary. otherwise, the teleport -30% DR combined with paragon DR is good enough for IH.
You need to have a massive shaft erected for Hellborne nodes and everything else mostly sucks. They even revamped hordes recently to make the other events worth more but everyone forgot they even did that because it’s still just Hellborne rich runs or you may as well restart with a new key. You waste your time without getting good Hellborne RNG.
Play with group, use the party finder to find session or host your party. More players stand at each corner more reward.
Certain option give you more Aether, pick any option with text Helbourne, Event Spawn faster and Elites. Pick the hellfire options, the reward is RNG as the options from the tower is random.
Blizzard Developers saw us having fun and took action!
Spires, Masses, and more spires… In every F’ing corner…
The only thing you are doing wrong is playing. Blizzard saw that we were having fun fighting hordes and they stopped the fun by spamming stupid Spires in EVERY corner with ranged enemies that stay just outside of the attackable range. They took something fun, and made it the opposite.
90% of the pillar options are Spires and masses and 90% of the time all 4 corners are Spires. This was not the original way, but the fun HAD to STOP! They should rename this trash The INFERNAL SPIRES with the Occassional Mass.
I’d mention aether fiends here, I thought hellborne runs are the most rewarding for a long time, but if you get multiple +2 aether finds you might end up with more aethers tho.
