Infernal hordes are boring

I said it in the PTR and my experience has not changed in the season release: infernal hordes are boring. This activity isn’t going to sustain even a shortened season. Too many waves, should be 3 or 4 max in the lower tiers, and 60 seconds still seems to long. There should be a way to end the round early if a certain number of monsters are quickly killed off, similar to the pit timer.

I have no desire to level up several characters as I have done in previous seasons while listening to the fell council say the same things over and over (“You fight to live? Rise, RISE!”) as well as the guy screaming in the background. And although Blizz did increase the aether currency and adjust the chest costs and number of rewards, it still seems banal to have to stand there at the end and click on chests individually like some vending machine.

Unfortunately, it’s a survival mode, so ending early due to kills isn’t consistent with the design intent. Agree that they could invest more in some additional voice acting lines, but no expectations there.

For me I think the biggest gripes based on 3 runs yesterday (all I had the stomach for after realizing the scroll bug hadn’t been fixed):

1/ No Butcher; remove this joker

2/ Let us open the 60 token chest as many times as we want

3/ In addition to the 60 token chest having a guaranteed GA, it should also have a guaranteed unique. I got 2 uniques in 3 runs (both the new Vox staff I have no use for), so don’t know what the unique drop rate is supposed to be, but seems to not be 100%, which is a miss IMO.

I haven’t done much infernal hordes yet, but it does seem to be pretty rewarding. So I’ll probably do it a lot.

Having said that, I don’t really love it. I don’t want to be locked into a room for that long. I like the pit because you can push through a level faster and faster as your build improves. You can’t speed farm the horde. I’d prefer it if killing monsters fast enough brings the timer down.

Well fortunately, the pit still exists for those who prefer it! I think the horde mode is way more fun and rewards short movement and AoE clear more than fast movement and a DPS check. I do wish they would make the offers more exciting but I think this going to be a very fun mode to farm and I will likely only do Pits now and then when masterworking mats are the most important thing.

  1. I disagree - it’s fun to have tough surprises; add more!
  2. Yes please
  3. I don’t know - don’t really want the loot chase to devolve into a numbers game so quickly. Just popping it multiple times should take care of this

I can’t say it’s boring, but six waves feel too long. All I want is the GA chest, and my fingers hurt after each run.

I think 5 waves would be perfect here. 6 is def too long.

I am thinking 3. Haha…

Or let us choose when to end and go directly to boss.

Hard disagree. I love that he still makes me nervous every time I see him even if I haven’t died to him in some time. Plus he’s -optional- in Hordes. You don’t have to pick that totem. Love it.

No issue with a difference of opinion on him in general, but one note… I didn’t pick anything that would have added him (or at least would have been clear that he would be added); from my perspective he was randomly added (stage 6 of 8 of a tier 6 run) ala a NM dungeon run

No more boring than any other aspect of D4 since release. And to be fair it is less boring than the go to source of loot last season which was maiden.
And 10 mins or so for 2 greater affix legendary items sure a lot better than the 2 or 3 hours it took to see one sometimes last season.

Were you solo? I have got him twice and both times it’s because I picked the +25 aether option to have a hunter on my trail, and it’s flaming butcher.

Yeah, solo. On that run I avoided all +mob options (+ devil, + lords, etc) and took +environment options eg +25% aether mound dmg, 2x spire kill, etc. So either something super non-intuitive added him or he is a random mob now.

Nah I wouldn’t call that boring, the pit is boring. Tier 8 in the horde gave me a rush after I beat it with 1 life left lol.

Can’t do Pit runs now. They are broken for two reasons: 1) The shards don’t drop anymore to start the pit, 2) The start obelisk is bugged, there is no dropdown to select.

No shards, really? You did complete at least lvl 46 NMD already, right?

Hard disagree OP, Infernal Hordes are really fun and rewarding now (post PTR that is).

I find them a lot of fun. Like anything else in any game ever though… if I just spammed the hell out of them for days on end then yeah, I would get bored. This is why I don’t play that way. I do some nmds here some helltides there. Some whispers here some horde mode there.

People always just spam crap to do the most efficient thing there is the fastest way possible and then complain they are bored or it’s too quick or whatever. Well duh… it’s because you play the most boring way possible and the fastest way possible.

With the amount of incoming enemies I barely notice the timer or the number of waves at all. Feels much better than it was on PTR. Rewards are about right, too.

Though, the other factor is that I’m playing with a friend this time (they can’t get on PTR cause they play on console). So perhaps being less anti-social = more fun.

Update. I quite enjoy infernal hordes.

You complaining about 6 waves already? Wait until IH8-10 when there are 8-10 waves lol. More waves, more aether, more rewards. The difficulty and fun are really good too and it’s in no way feels like a chore or boring to do. Unlike Simulacrum from PoE (30 waves and insanely punishing)
