In your own opinion is Diablo 4 what you expected?

I think my expectations may have been to high for Diablo 4.

Was I wrong to have High expectations? I’ve been playing for about a month and I think I’m pretty much done.

I never expected to be burnt out this quick.

Honestly nothing more dissatisfying then one of the most awful leveling experiences I’ve ever had playing any game then to find that the game content pretty much is all completed before you even hit max level.

I wanted and expected so much more, Maybe I was wrong to do so but I’m honestly left here at this moment feeling scammed.

(Don’t take me the wrong way, I’m not a blizzard hater and have spent countless hours playing blizzard games. I just really wanted more from this game then what was delivered and this is how i have been left feeling after a month of playing)

Diablo 4 was better than expected. I really don’t understand why people had such high expectations. What has Blizz produced in the last decade that gave people such high expectations? I expected a mediocre game from a mediocre gaming company. I think Blizz actually did a pretty good job with Diablo 4. I think it’s the best game they’ve made in a while. It’s not perfect and needs improvement, but it’s pretty good nonetheless.

Not really, But i have learned over the years to take hype with a grain of salt.
While D4 has some rough edges. It is playable and from past experiance playing Blizzard games, It will improve. Frankly i was suprised that there was a season this early into release, And it tells me they are trying to make us happy.

I think I’d give it a 7/10 personally in It’s current state today. It’s good, but it has a lot of room to grow and improving to be made. There’s been some mistakes made that it sounds like they’ve learned from. I’m interested to see what S2 brings while still enjoying S1, even though it’s lackluster. I expected more for S1 for sure.

Let’s see.

ATVI is currently worth like, what, $62 billion?

Diablo 4 been in development for how long? 6 years roughly?

The game costs $70 just for the base product. $100 for some premium version.

Of COURS…

Stop.

Blizzard has been producing absolute garbage product for a very long time now. Since 2016, there has been a developer waterfall of people leaving the company. They’ve been scraping by on brand recognition alone. Tell me, did the marketing campaign leading up to D4’s launch seem a bit… excessive? Even by Blizzard’s standard? It was the most aggressive marketing campaign I’ve seen for a Blizzard product. Why? Because they knew they were shipping a trash game.

So, while you can expect something better from a company purely based on their valuation, budget, history, etc, you have to look at the bigger picture and realize… Their last decade’s track record indicates this is exactly the kind of half baked product ATVI would produce.

Unfortunately, it’s right on par.

Yes, I expected a complete disaster of a game and they delivered it lol

My expectations for Diablo 4 were really really low. Blizzard have been on a very negative path for a long while, and their 3 years of blog posts indicated that they had no coherent vision for D4.
So in a way, despite the many issues I have with the game, I have been positively surprised. It is not great, probably not even good, but also not the complete mess that I feared. There is a fair amount of good design in there.
It still is the best new Diablo in over 20 years.

Regardless, yes, people were wrong to have high expectations. Blizzard do not warrant that these days.

I was excited when playing all the betas and thought the game seemed very interesting. After having played it I was sad by how shallow and underdeveloped it seemed.

I have no idea how any of the issues present weren’t seen already.

I’m not sure what i expected. I was hoping it was gonna fill my ARPG itch whenever there is PoE downtime.

The last good game in my eyes that they have made (not including expansions or re-releases) was Starcraft 2 back in 2010. Thats 13 years ago now.
World of Warcraft is still the best game ever when it was released in my opinion. So Blizzard STILL have the benefit of doubt solely because of WoW. Retail WoW isnt my cup of tea anymore, but still the best game ever made imo up til and including MoP.

It just seems more and more over the years that they simply do not make games for gamers anymore. They make games to sell a buttload early with mass appeal, which doesnt, yee, dont work out for me personally. Or they simply arent capable anymore to do it.

Sadly ya… I expected a solidly constructed ARPG experience that plays really well with minimal content. And I expected a gamble on Blizzards end that they provided enough quality of gameplay upfront that players would buy the promise that more is coming. And ya… looks like that’s what we got lol

EDIT: Selling the promise of whats coming is apparently Blizzards new thing. And judging by what happened with Overwatch 2, I wouldn’t be so sure anything being promised in D4 is actually going to happen.

That’s a fair statement, I think its the lack of endgame content that makes the rest of the game feel so bad for me.

Now that I know there is pretty much nothing to do or not much change past level 70 all of a sudden the game feels completed and i don’t want to play anymore.

At least in diablo 3 there was a leader board and you could push on that once you hit max level.

The game is better than expected, the problem is they released it in unfinished state

Like, the first 25 levels were just awe-amazing experience in every way… Later when they released the whole thing, people realized - oh, so these guys didn’t add anything new or exciting post level 75 (except maybe the Uber Lillith boss and that’s it)

That’s a problem the game still has today, and frankly I’m glad that they’re not “rushing” to finish (like adding GRs and “more for the sake of more” but taking their time and carefully “upgrade” where there is a place to do it)

However I’m afraid that the pressure for reviews and the repetitive negative feedback out there will make them do some not as well thought-out things

Fair comment and pretty much sums up how I feel.

At the end of the day I think I’m expecting those awesome legends that created Diablo 2 to just reappear and make a truly epic experience that’s built around having endless hours of countless fun…

The products delivered recently feel like the complete opposite, focused far to heavily on trying to extract every last dollar from the consumer and heavily neglecting the user experience.

I thought the best business models where create the best product possible and if it is truly good the money will follow…

Indeed.
Heck, it has already started.

Shallow and underdeveloped is a very accurate description of how the game feels after playing for a while.

June was one of the highest revenue months for the video game industry ever, and Diablo IV was the #1 seller. There is absolutely 0, ZERO incentive for them to do anything differently. Do not expect change.

if we, as players, dont start waiting until post release to buy games, this is just going to get worse and worse.

EDIT: D4 was my breaking point, im older now, I dont care, FOMO is lost on me lol. Im just waiting from now on. 3-5 months in the games still good? Cool I’ll buy it. But no more pre ordering, early access, etc… for me.

While popular on the forums to espouse views like this especially against Blizzard, that’s not how companies and products work.

I didn’t have a lot of expectations about it on release…

But…I did expect them to have improved something in the game in the 2 months since release (via patching, etc). Instead, they have only applied one major patch that pretty much made everything in the game feel a little bit worse than it already did.

They should have a massive incentive to create a great game especially with battle passes, Consistent revenue for any business is extremely important. In this current state I will not be participating in Season 2.
