In Season 4, will Unique items remain with 4 affixes, or will their number be reduced?

For example, Gloves of Illuminator. Will new Unique Gloves still have +Fireball (or S4 equivalent), + Attack Speed, Crit Chance and Resource Restore? Or will the number of affixes be reduced to 3, to match the number on Legendary items ?

I know we can add 2 more affixes via Tempering, so will that result in Gloves of Illuminator having 6 affixes and legendary gloves 5 affixes ?
Or will number of Tempering be reduced on Unique gloves to 1, so both Unique and Legendary Gloves can get up to 5 affixes with tempering ?

This was not discussed much, and i’d like a clarification.

Ptr incoming, if i were you i wouldnt expected the answer from a blizzard employee and Just wait until then.

That being said maybe they talked about it in the stream.
I personally dont know.

from what i got the affixes on the uniques dont change, since they can “only” be masterworked. but as gamma said, ptr is close, so yea, no need to guess.

Pretty sure that they can’t be Tempered but can be Masterworked and have GA rolls

If this is the case and only legendary and rare items can be tempered, maybe we will have situations where we can have few different variations of each build, which is cool.

In my case above, if i dont use gloves of illuminator i lose bouncing fireballs, but i can get extra fireball projectiles from tempering legendary gloves.

well, thats for sure according to the stream, unique items can only be masterworked. tempering is for rares/legendaries. (correct me guys if im wrong, thats just how i got it from the campfire)

which creates kind of another problem, if that tempering makes certain uniques obsolete whats the point of them then? warrants another item rework, which they already did with uniques before. And we are right at the beginning uniques feeling worse.

Dont get me wrong i love tempering. But really they probably remade that unique problem again.

I would guess , it remains the same , can not tempered (just like current ones can not be rerolled ) and can be masterworked ( just like current ones can be upgraded 5 times)

You cannot temper unique items, you can only master work them. They can also drop with greater affixes on them. Pretty sure the patch notes explain this you should go check them out. Only rares and legendaries were changed in regards to how many affixes they have when dropped because they can be tempered.

Uniques can have 4 larger affixes. They must be difficult to find. But I believe they suffered a nerf and the rare ones will be quite useless now. Devrima can put another affix on them. The Rogue ones are already quite useless, now then.

They’re certainly a nice starter item if nothing else.
Also…
Consider them a failsafe if Crafting fails and one doesn’t have a replacement.

It will probably take some time to farm up ideal items, longer to find ideal items with Greater Affixes and also farm the Pit for Masterwork Materials etc.
In the meantime we have the tried and true Unique items we know and love.

true, if u count em as that, but it feels strange when a very niche unique which supposed to be strong in its niche is now a “starter” item.

I’m not designing the game.
Just observing the changes.

eg. If one were to find an ideal item with Greater Affixes and successfully Master Work it with some funky “Unique, build defining, style” of added Affix - 3 extra projectiles for example, then it could and probably would be better than the Unique.

I think this is the whole point with what they’ve introduced.
Crafting - which many have been asking for.
Player agency - not “Unique items or bust” - now we can, with some rng love, actually define our build.

Unique items will always be there as starter, optional, build defining as they are and so on so forth.
Nothing changes except - More. Options.
Or so I hope.

Obviously we have to see how this plays out.

What I meant was - as I explained above.
Unique items will potentially be side by side with what Players can now - with agency - craft for themselves.
2 or more paths of gearing and itemization choices.
Very welcome imo.

edit - It’s also quite possible that Legendary items will become ‘nearly’ as strong as Unique items - and possibly equally so with the fact that added to some funky Affixes we can also have an Aspect attached to it.

So far none of the rogue ones are build defining, in fact most in their current state are outright useless.

I’m hoping this patch changes that up a bit for rogue’s at least.

The uniques shown on campfire remains same affix since unique affixes are FIXED.
