I’m having trouble accessing the in-game shop normally, and often get the following error message:
“Tejal encountered an error and is unable to make offers at this time”.
But now, with the 1-year anniversary free items being offered in the shop, it got me thinking. Are the shop servers busy? Or is it a bug?
I was at a loss, and after asking Copilot to explain the message, it gave me several suggestions, one of which was “regional issues”.
Since I’ve previously had access to the in-game shop, and have been successful with purchases, it never really occurred to me that this was a regional issue.
I’ve been connecting to Blizzard Europe servers (from South Africa) successfully since the launch day of Diablo III and have never had a problem before. Also, no problems with Diablo IV since March 2024.
Nevertheless, I opened my VPN and set my location to London, and have now consistently been able to access the in-game shop and have claimed my first two free anniversary gifts.
Only trouble is, my latency has jumped a bit, and I sometimes get disconnected from the game - A problem that is resolved by turning off my VPN.
Here are some steps that can be taken by South African players to bypass this issue:
- Exit Diablo IV completely and close the launcher.
- Open your favourite VPN, activate it and set your location to London or some other location within Europe.
- Start the Blizzard Launcher. You may need to provide your login details again if you usually have the “Keep me logged in” option turned on.
- Start Diablo IV, then go to the Shop to make your purchases and/or claim your free gifts.
- When done, and you want to play normally, repeat from step 1 above, only this time turn off your VPN to avoid latency and disconnect issues.
These steps have worked for me every time so far. It’s a chore, I know, but it works. However, I’d still like to know why a VPN is required to access the in-game shop when the game itself works simply fine without one?
Would it be possible for Blizard to address and resolve this problem?
