It was so bad in beta, and right now its still the same
They buffed maul a ton since beta
no I still see horrible radius for reaching enemies, lmfao. Still feels like Kitty paws
3/5 basic druid skills are aoe. Maul is one of them. Maul is also one of 2 skills that are the best spirit generators. Maul can knockdown enemies and contribute to fortify.
Its not exactly a bad skill.
Melee builders start to feel worse as being in melee and chasing mobs becomes more difficult. So many ground effects, deadly melee attacks, and retreating ranged units later in the game. Although grizzly rage lets you cheese your way through the cc spam at least.
Maul feels pretty terrible on bosses as the knock is useless and you don’t need more fort builders. Not that your basic attack damage matters for earthbear but maul doesn’t scale well damage wise (because you are boosting your earth damage more than anything).
At first earth spike looked terrible but I can see why earthbears often swap to it for a ranged builder usable in grizzly rage. Even the ranged storm attack seems decent for a nongrizzly rage build.
maul is also slow asf, cant do s* without attack speed aspect
Stormstrike is better in pretty much every possible way. Unless you absolutely need to stay in bear form for some reason.
But yeah, maul and claw both are pretty terrible compared to storm strike, and so are earth spike and wind shear other than being ranged.
