Imprint an item ONLY WORKS ONCE

Alright, it appears that the legendary power extracted from your items can be imprinted onto another legendary or rare item, but its permanently. Once transferred, you cannot remove this effect if you later discover a superior weapon that you’d prefer to have the legendary attribute on. Ideally, one should be able to re-extract the power for a fee, either in coins or materials. Unfortunately, that’s not an option. Instead, you must locate another legendary item with the same effect, extract its power, and apply it to achieve a modest weapon upgrade—a rather tedious process.

I was putting together a similar topic, so I’ll second this one instead.

It’s going to feel mighty crummy if I get a legendary item with a power I want to use for a while in some kind of endgame build, only to feel like I need to wait for the perfect item to put it on, knowing that if I put it on anything less than perfect I won’t be able to take it back out again if I ever get a better “base” item.

I think it would be good if we could re-extract with a higher cost each time. It would need to be quite expensive from the beginning.

This is a problem with tying item design so closely to skill balance. Some builds are entirely not viable without accompanying legendaries.

The dumb thing is, if you couldn’t extract the aspect at all, they’d have to design around that… meaning the customization would be in the skill tree, where it should be in the first place.

This is currently as if Path of Exile made you obtain new skill gems every time you replaced a piece of gear.

It’s the one justification I can think of for why the Legendary drop rate in the beta is so high. I have a feeling it’s going to be dropped once the live realms are active, cuz it’s honestly insane how many legendaries I’m picking up in a relatively brief amount of time played, especially at level 25, especially in Act 1, especially from the Curiosity’s vendor.

There’s also the sheer number of aspects we can collect in the codex of power, the vast majority of which we can’t access in beta.

So between those two factors minimizing the hurt of only being able to imprint once, I think the mechanic is in an ok spot at least for now. I’ll have to reevaluate this opinion later once I hit endgame and start experiencing what the drop rate is like there.

The cost should increase each time but not have a restriction IMO

exactly… at launch the rate of legendaries will drop so its even more important
