Im hoping POE2 will be less complex than POE1

I’m hoping it won’t be so hard to get into the game. I (as a casual) don’t want to ruin game for you jobless guys out there who want PO2 to be their job, so keep it complex, but at least make it a bit easier for casuals to get into it.

I’m seeing videos and I’m liking it, looks good.

The thing about Diablo 4 is, there is nothing to look forward to once you kill Elias for WT4.

Uber Lilith? Yeah right. It’s so unattainable for casuals that even thinking of beating her is laughable.

I heard POE has much more things to look forward to in the endgame which is what I hoped would be the case for D4, but there’s nothing. No goals, no bosses, nothing to work towards to. Just your character being able to do same exact content that is harder. Nothing new awaits you once you do one helltide and one nightmare dungeon. Hope thats not the case with POE.

Nothing about PoEs complexity is changing. PoE is simply animation changes, a new campaign, new skills and a new way to socket skills. Everything else is going to be the same.

Having to follow a build guide shouldnt be a requirement for any game.

POE is brilliant, i’ve obviously returned to playing it after 2 weeks of Diablo 4. And let’s be honest here, we’re not talking about studying to be a brain surgeon. POE is really not that complex, at all. I would recommend following build guides from Ziz to begin with, at least for the passive points part. The gems and links, feel free to experiment with and have fun. The diversity of builds is really interesting, it’s very easy to test new skills by swapping gems.
Oh, and it’s free.

PoE2 is just PoE1+new campaign and a few gameplay and animation changes and improvements. There won’t be any change to the complexity of the game.

Outside of crafting endgame gear and some complex league mechanics from the past that are still in the game (Betrayal f.e.) the game isn’t too complex at all…but you shouldn’t bother about them to much, you can achieve everything in the game by simply Alch + Go Maps.

My advice for your first 2-3 chars, just strictly follow a good build guide of a playstyle you prefere (idealy melee, range bow and mage to roghly cover all playstyles)…the rest will come with “learning by doing”.

I have about 3000 hours in the game and still follow build guides at some points, I simply have not enough time to do the min/max math and they’re so many talented player who do this job for me.

Yes the passive tree, gem links, etc. … are looking complex at the first sight but you’ll get into it prety fast, even as a casual.

Ok I like to hear this. I got the impression that its must follow build guide and that its insanely complex, that theres so much stuff to worry about

There are build guides for diablo 4 too, especially when it comes to the paragon board. There are, and will be, guides for probably every single game out there that offers any amount of customization, for the simple reason that people who are better than you at video games have played the games and figured out optimal paths. It’s up to the individual to decide to follow such guides or not.

But I dont like the fact that is necessary in order to have fun and not die all the time to end game content.

PoE isn’t a complicated game outside crafting. It just doesn’t do well at explaining things in-game.

The notorious “Nearby Enemies” key word for instance. It’s not about Jobless either. Just reading, understanding and playing over time. I’ve played the game 10 years and recently don’t play more than 2 weeks.

Once you understand the mechanics. There’s nothing to it really.

Will there be character customization in POE2?

You can get into white maps without any guide as long as you cap your resistances and gem links that work together…but if you want to go further you have to have some basic knowledge about simple synergies.

And to go even further I can recommend you guides…as said I have 3000 hours and still use guides for min/maxing, it’s not a shame to get help.

If you want to learn how to cook you also read a cookbook first, or watch YOutube guides.

I do hope PoE2 is a bait and switch to make healthy changes to the game the community otherwise won’t let GGG do. The Zoom Tek meta is not healthy for the game.

Progress being measure in MPH (Maps her Hour) instead of actually exploring the dynamics of the map system. Map bosses are a joke. The end-game bosses are literally a meter you fill with map completions.

Player sustain is ridiculous to the point they have no choice but to 2 shot players. There’s just a lot of issues.

I don’t think it’s necessary, you can choose not to follow guides, die in endgame, learn from mistakes and try again

Yes to this. I make nothing but hipster builds. Sometimes I’ll just pick a skill and build around it. You can go super 8 layer combo if you want but you can also just build well and clear all content.

The problem with PoE was never its “complexity” because honestly it’s not that much. the problem with PoE is ZoomZoom and the inability of modern western games to handle tanky builds. either you are literally immortal or everything that touches the character kills him.

honestly i hope it is the complexity is what makes poe awsome

Yea, it’s a deeply rooted problem that brought about the zoom.

It branches into many different mechanics of the game. As I mentioned, sustain. When you regen / LoH 3k/s on 6k Life. Only thing that can kill you is a 2 shot. This came after though when being fast was simply better due to ridiculous enemy density. Even potion up-time is an issue.

Don’t stop moving becoming key to survival because there’s too much crap to manually avoid.

EDIT: PoE lost the fundamental of damage intake types. I mentioned this many times of the forums. There’s Chip Damage, Burst Damage and Telegraphed Damage.

  • Chip Damage is used to overwhelm the player if they exceed their limits like pushing too fast into hordes of enemies. it’s also used to counter sustain to a degree.
  • Burst Damage is used to trigger a response from the player. Dodge, Potion, etc.
  • Telegraph is obvious. It’ll one-shot you if you don’t move given a grace period.

PoE doesn’t use Chip Damage anymore. It’s all burst and telegraphed.

Anything to end this… D4 is the worst in the series. It doesnt even have diablo in it.

I think a lot of people don’t realize that PoE2 is essentially just an expansion, and not really a new game. The misunderstanding of it being thrown around is definitely weird since people seem to be adamant they are going to play it, but yet have no clue what it even is.
