IggiNotes ⛺ Developer Update June 27, 2025

This is just more band aids on the cancer that is Diablo 4.

I would say in general, there are nerfs to damage, but they are increasing the rewards we get at the same time. So looking at it in its entirety, I like the changes. We’ll have more Ancestrals dropping as we go higher in Torment Tiers, more cache rewards from Whispers, a new affix that can add more Obducite to NMD’s, more runes dropping all around based on the activity, etc.

The balance nerfs themselves don’t concern me nearly as much as the feel of the gameplay when I get into it. Which at this point I can’t say one way or the other based off the notes as to if I’ll like it or not. I am a little more hyped to get into the next season, but not overly so if that makes sense.

Yeah same for me, nerfs don’t bother me as long as they are achieving the goal of closing the gap between the variety of builds.

I always say they can adjust the balance against the environment later, but does it really matter if everyone is stuck around the same pit level? But they should, so as not to look like clowns, and have 50 extra levels no one can reach. :stuck_out_tongue:

I just hope the tedious feeling is gone. And I think relevant loot will address that to some degree as you go to the next torment level. Let’s see if they actually understood that this time. :hamster:

Like said above, I hope that the increased ancestral and legendary rune drop/quality rates will decrease the slog and make up for some of the power nerfs.

It’s both smart and stupid. Part of the reason why devs make boneheaded mistakes is because they get desensitized to feedback. Let alone constructive, educated feedback.

This isn’t a Blizzard thing either, happened with Anthem and other games too.

There needs to be a way to keep the crazy nerds away from the devs without insulating the devs from egregiously bad decisions they make.

I’d argue that this is Blizzard’s biggest flaw: they don’t know how to differentiate and end up taking bad advice that pisses everyone off (Streamers are rarely the people you want influencing your game’s direction because they’re literally there for a brief time until the next FOMO is released. They actually thrive off of moderate drama).

We’ll see how that one goes. Is it just “more” relative to the lower tiers or is it “more” relative to what we currently have. Is it so much more that we’re on S7 levels again. These are questions I don’t think we have answers for yet, and unfortunately, by the time we do get answers it’s too late.

A big, big issue with backloading rewards is it incentivizes people to play the super top end builds to reach those rewards or to reach them in a timely manner. We all know a significant complaint (maybe most significant) is the gap between the top end and the average is seen as far too large.

I would say the former and not the latter. I don’t think they have the expertise to add in a stipulation that you’ll get more Ancestrals to drop based on what you’re currently wearing. Not saying it couldn’t happen, but from what I’ve seen out of D4 they increase/decrease drop rates, they don’t add in stipulations like this.

Patch Notes only say this:

General

 • Ancestral chance now scales with Difficulty Tier.

So based off that, we should see an increase to the amount of ancestrals we get upon reaching a higher Torment Tier, with T4 having the best chance of getting Ancestrals to drop.
increase to the amount of ancestrals we get upon reaching a higher Torment Tier,
In effect you get the really good stuff (maybe) when you presumably are already geared and need it the least. And then do to what exactly?

Same thing could be asked of any other game within this niche genre. Why continue to play when you have essentially the best gear you can get within reason? Granted I never get to that point myself, I typically aim for 1 GA items and call it good from there, but I’m also not pushing pit tiers and grinding for 100+ hours per season either.

Yeah but looking at that it looks like a complete rollback to S7. Looking forward to the release of BL4. My D4 days are likely coming to an end until the next xpac

So Necro Mages and Hydras I guess. I really hope the GA drops does scale better this season as else it will just be the Season of Capped Slogs. Both BW and GT are a shadow of how they were.

so what is conclusion folks?yeey or nay?

You should play/test it and decide for yourself.

Did they fix the battlepass?

Up to each individual. Seems to be the same prior to the latest patch notes. Those who didn’t like the initial campfire and PTR patch notes were not swayed to like it after these small changes. While those who enjoyed them are still status quo.

As always thanks for the write up. I didn’t watch the campfire but from I’ve seen in this post and the blog post from blizzard I think I’ll sit this season out too.

I’m feeling that the minor changes happening each season will perhaps add up a big change for me if I wait another 3-4 seasons and start playing again.

Last season I really played was 6. I did play 7 but finished after a week.
