If we PAY for the season pass, please let us keep progressing after the season ends

This is something that always gripes me about Season Passes. I’m someone who tends to play a game pretty hardcore for a couple of weeks, and then take a break. I find that’s the most enjoyable way to game, at least for me.

Because of that, I find Season Passes are a waste of time and money. If I already know I’m not going to reach level 100 (or whatever you want to call it) in the Season Pass, which is where the coolest rewards always are, then why even bother?

Which is a Lose-Lose scenario. It’s a “Lose” for me, because that’s all content I’ll never have a chance to unlock, and it’s a “Lose” for Blizzard, because it means I’m not paying to support the game.

To me, making PAID Season Passes remain available permanently is going to be much more enticing.

From the players’ perspective, it means I can play at whatever pace I most enjoy, and it suddenly becomes much more worth my money to buy a Pass because I can rest assured that I can eventually earn its contents.

And from Blizzard’s perspective, it makes the Season Pass a far more worthwhile purchase from players. In fact, even if the “seasons” themselves were relatively short for Free players, it would still be compelling to pay for the full Pass because you know it’s no going to run out on you.

My thinking?

After you pay for a Season, once the next one rolls out, you have an option somewhere to select which Season you wish to be “active”. That way, you’re only making progress on a single Season at any given time, which removes any incentive to just “wait until you’re making progress on multiple seasons at the same time”.

Maybe the current season sees faster progress as well, while progressing on a previous Season would do so at a slower pace, encouraging players to play when content is fresh and new, without expressly forcing it.

Food for thought.

  1. You’ll be able to experiance the new content within 1 or so hours after starting the season.

  2. You have 3 months to complete the bp. which will likely only take a few weeks.

  3. the passes are just bonus cosmetics… you’re literally paying 10 bucks for a cosmetic item.

  4. Plenty of people will still pay for the pass, even if you dont.

  5. If you’re positive you can finish the pass in 3 months… best not to buy it. stick with the free pass.

  6. That system… would be hard to implement.

You’re literally proving my point; you’re actively recommending that if I don’t know if I can finish a season pass, then I shouldn’t buy it.

That’s the problem. Both for me, and for Blizzard.

The system would be incredibly easy to implement. Other games have started using a similar model. On whatever screen that shows the current Season Pass, just add a little button somewhere that lets you look back at past seasons, where you can set one to “active” and make progress there instead.

That simple change would only encourage players to buy a pass. Sure, some won’t care, but that’s money they’re either getting or not getting either way. There’s nobody who would be less inclined to buy a pass. There will, however, be players who are more likely to.

Again, it’s a Win-Win.

Then dont buy it… seriously… if you’re not capable of a few hours of gameplay here and there… whats the point? Stick to eternal, and dont participate in seasons?

It’s not a problem for blizz. you’re just a small number to them

Oh? Do go about explaining how they would code it. I’m mighty interested in hearing. What games are doing that?

I’m getting the impression you’re just super argumentative…

I would have to see their code to implement it. I have a background in marketing and coding. This is absolutely something that could be implemented, and likely without a great deal of work. But again, I can literally only speculate.

One game that comes to mind is Halo Infinite. Granted, perhaps not the most successful game to use for example, but everyone lauded their approach to their “season pass” model.

They’ve said about 75 hours to complete the pass so I don’t think most people would have any difficulty completing it. I could see them allowing the season pass to work during the downtime, 2 weeks or so, break between seasons though.

I dont know if you realize how the season pass works, but you get the basic pass for free. You could simply wait until you complete the pass to pay 10$ for the premium track if you wished.

I’m stating facts. and as kaze below said… you can just wait to see if you complete it before paying the 10 bucks.

But… but you said it was EASY. Whats your level of coding knowledge?

“A new Battle Pass comes out every season. Older Battle Passes will continue to exist for players to make progress on even after the season changes.” <<< this is a standard battle pass. Aka the free one.

The bp here seems to be a set static list of rewards. Not seasonal rewards.
https://www.windowscentral.com/halo-infinite-battle-pass

Not a BP that changes every three months for rewards that go along with that season.

I see what you may have been thinking. I might have agreeded if say the BP turnaround was really short like 2 weeks -1 month or so and with no free track.
As it is though there is no reason to change it.
Everyone above has covered why and i would agree.
Not sure if you are a d3 seasons player but the seasons are super long at 14 weeks i think? and even without a pass system i can easily join late and grind out the seasonal stuff.
Easy as mentioned above just see how you go in the free track and time before throwing down money just incase you struggle for time, I dare say it won’t be too difficult to complete in the time frame, We will all find out soon also so can see how it all plays out in season 1 and go from there.
The Division 2 uses a similar season pass and if i am not playing that game much i just skip the seasonal pass and take whatever i get for free,Never really gets in the way of for other seasonal content.
Some of which is usually on rotation at some point with these kinds of games,it;s a good system for arpgs.
I know some games that also implement ways to release content that can be enjoyed anytime and it is good too and does combat fear of missing out. However the content for those games is a little more than seasonal stuff so unless seasons are overly deep content wise(which is not usually the case for seasons),then it shouldn’t really be anthing to worry about at this time.

I kind of like how minecraft dungeons does their seasons. I think they are on season 4? I could be wrong, but you can click on any season and start earning torwards that one. There isn’t any FOMO at all. You can even buy the premium passes for those older seasons as well. Doubt this game will go that route but certainly wouldn’t see the harm in it. Could join this game at season 10 or w/e and still earn towards the older seasons, but…don’t think they are going to go that direction.

I don’t see why anyone would disagree with the OP, he’s suggesting for flexibility and not having the company resort to the same ol FOMO mentality that while helpful in getting sales numbers it also has the negative effect of making people no longer care about the battlepass once they overcome that feeling which will make them less engaged in the game overall.

Right? To further add to what I said, they could add the older seasons(not the current one) to the eternal realm server. Would give us incentive to log into our older characters but also allow us to earn towards the older season passes. So instead of only having 3 months available for people to potentially buy that particular season’s premium pass, they would all be available permanently. OP is definitely on to something…don’t see how this would make anyone angry but I mean this is the internet after all.

Fear of missing out on what? optional cosmetics?
If thats a huge fear… well it’d be better not to play the game at all. Because you’re gonna be paying 10 bucks, every 3 months for that, right?

There is a reason why the battlepass is on a timer and isn’t like say on a storefront where people can purchase it whenever.

FOMO exists for everything, and instead of cheerleading for you multi billion dollar company you can instead encourage better consumer practices so they can create a better product for everyone.

If you fear missing out on something so outrageously optional… that you have 3 full months to obtain. Then you shouldn’t play.

Must you have every skin? Are you gonna pay 10-20 bucks for every skin they release on shop? If the answer is no. Stop it with the fomo BS.

Its not optional if there is a timer on it and there is a chance it wont ever appear again.

You also failed to explain why giving consumers better flexibility would be a bad thing, so I’m guessing you’re once again here to cheerlead without wanting actual discussion pertaining to the game.

Once again you fail to answer…

And this coming from someone that wants seasons gone period. because “i cant be bothered to grind a character! i dont want others to have rewards for grinding a new character!”

No answer or bugger off.
Are you going to buy everything thats on store, if its a rotating set of cosmetics? No? You’re not going to spend thousands of dollars to buy every future cosmetic right?

The reason why battle pass is not endless is because it is tied to the content of that particular season. Things will change each season. They arent going to maintain a bunch of servers for each specific seasons content just so players can finish a battlepass at their own pace. It would be too expensive and too much hastle to do so.

There are 3 months minimum to complete a battle pass. That is plenty of time. If you arent sure you have enough time then just dont buy the pass. All you are missing out on is some cosmetics. If you want the cosmetics that bad then complete the season in 3 months. It probably isnt hard to do so unless you can only play an hour a week. In which case the BP is definitely not for you.

What a silly question, as if I’ve yet to see the cosmetics themselves.
What I do know is that offering people flexibility is never a bad thing, which you seem to be against because…

Once again discussion with you is a worthless activity, nothing productive can be produced with someone that is only interested in cheerleading.

Derpy derp… The only reason to pay for a PREMIUM pass… is for COSMETICS.
You’re saying… that they will have FOMO over that, but not the rotating set of cosmetics in shop? So no its not a silly question. its the same thing wrapped in a little bow.

So if you’re not gonna buy all shop items. there is no fomo with BP.
And its not my fault i put a stop to your stupid bs and you cant wiggle out of the facts. Now answer.

that is even a better idea than what the OP is giving. and yeah, its the first time I hear the OP idea and I like it!
