Right now the tree will not allow me to individually refund my last point(s) rom Frost Bolt in the basic skills node. But I never use frost bolt or any other basic skills and would like to use those points elsewhere.
So If I enter respec Mode, will I be able to ignore Frost Bolt (and all basic skills) and just put points in other ones?
Each node cluster requires a number of points to be put in before it opens. You will have to spend the minimum at the basic node cluster to move on to the next one.
Odd that it won’t let you pull all your points out. Are you sure you don’t have a point in the second node? If you do that’s why you can’t pull out the basic one.
You can though put points into other basics and then refund the one you have now; but, if you don’t care which one cuz you don’t use them, might as well just leave it.

I am wondering if OP has a point invested into one of the frostbolt modifier passives. That or what you suggested, something on the next branch blocking.

You always need 2 points in the first node. Even if they are completely wasted

Yeah I figured it was something like that. I have attempted to refund all of it – including the Glinting, Flickering, and Enhanced Frost bolt as well as Frost bolt itself. But It won’t let me go any further.
Thanks
Shot in the dark? Is an enchantment skill blocking you?
any way you can take a screenshot of your skill tree and post it here, maybe try to help explain the issue a bit more?
Do you have enough gold to respec?
I have plenty. I am writing down all the skills i have now
OP has their skill tree filled out and is only trying to refund all basic skill points. Carry on.

There is no issue. The OP doesn’t want to waste the 2 skill points in basic skills.
OP: There is no way around this. If you want to change which basic skill(s) get the 2 points, see the posts above or just do a full respec. Hopefully some day Blizzard realizes that players generally do not like the builder+spender playstyle and the vast majority are simply never using a basic skill. You absolutely can not at this time, however, avoid wasting those two points on basic skill(s).

thats kinda why I was asking for him to share. cause hes not getting the point, and I thought maybe SHOWING them what they are doing wrong, would be better than trying to explain it. Words dont always work with some folks.

As other have said… No you need some basics invested as prereqs to further skill nodes.
nope. you gotta spend at least two points on a skill you will never use. this is considered good game design…
Well a skill tree has to start somewhere, doesnt it? Just like a skill grid starts somewhere.
Only way id ever see this changing is if they added a passive skill in the first cluster.
The issue with basic skills being useless isn’t a problem that is self evident because “a skill tree has to start somewhere”
id hardly call them useless. quite some builds make use of basic skills.
Another option id like is if skills had some cross skill interaction like in d2. liked that concept.
but yea, i doubt there will be any changes or additions to the skill tree in the near future, as that just happened with the release of VoH.
curious what build that cleared pit 120 has 7 points dumped into basic skills.
why does it have to be 7 points? 3 can be totally enough to make a skill useable.
Have a look there. I see firebolt, i see bash, heartseeker (edit heartseeker is at 119 tho)
Let alone the fact that pit 120 doesnt have to be the goal of such a discussion.
How many of your builds cleared pit 120?
