Ideas from Grim Dawn that Diablo 4 Could Incorporate

Hey everyone,

I’ve been playing Grim Dawn and noticed several features that make the end-game really engaging. I think these ideas could be great additions to Diablo 4. Here are some of the highlights:

  1. Reputation System: In Grim Dawn, the reputation system adds depth to the end-game. You can build a reputation with different clans, which unlocks special powerful items. You can also sign a “contract” with one clan to boost your reputation gain. However, helping a clan’s enemy can cause you to lose reputation with the first clan. This dynamic makes the end-game more interesting and strategic.
  2. Dual Class System: At level 10, you can choose a second class, allowing you to benefit from the skills and abilities of both classes. This adds a lot of variety and customization to character builds.
  3. Shrines: Scattered throughout the world, shrines offer special rewards when you find and activate them. This encourages exploration and adds an element of surprise and excitement.
  4. Crafting Recipes: You can find recipes and blueprints (694 including expansion ones) that allow the blacksmith to forge specific items. This adds another layer of depth to the crafting system and gives players more control over their gear. Not to mention the joy of finding a legendary blueprint.
  5. Progressive Skill Tree: The skill tree doesn’t end at level 50; you can still improve it. Although you get 2 skill tree points instead of 5, it helps you become a bit more powerful at each end-game level.

These are just a few ideas that I think could enhance Diablo 4. What do you all think? Are there any other features from Grim Dawn that you think would be great in Diablo 4?

The way i see it is, If Blizz needs to take stuff from another game, Then can we really call this game a Diablo game? unfortunately creativity seems to be constricted by budget cuts, And lack of qualified staff.

Each game is “inspired” by another game, it’s more a familly of game that share common ideas. I don’t say it must copy exactly GD, but it could be inspired by. Grim Dawn is also inspired by Diablo

The thing is, Most games like Diablo were inspired by Diablo. Blizzard North aka Condor, kinda set the bar for games like these.

Everyone else just increased the bar and left Diablo behind. It definitely should learn from others, and Grim Dawn is currently one of the best A-RPGs to learn from.
Diablo 1 was also inspired by what came before.

How to design good itemization.

  1. We have very few factions yet. But yeah why not.

  2. & 5. I have feeling they will not rework their whole progression system, and everything that is affected by it.

  3. We have shrines (altars if Lillith) most of the people hated geathering them every time.

  4. Tempering manuals are recepies. Though I’d love to teach my blacksmith(s) to be able to create gear, like in D3.

If Blizzard copies something from other games, they will be admitting that they are incompetent and have a development team that is below mediocrity. Grim Dawn’s ideas are great, but they are aimed at a more intelligent and mature audience. The current Diablo audience is very few, and they are an immediate audience with no depth.

Lot of games have same ideas, in the UI, in chests and the loot that drop on the ground, in dungeons and boss… lot of games are quite similare in fact, it’s hack’n slash, it’s diablo-like. So to have factions is ok I think, it will not be Grim Dawn factions of course. Same with other ideas.

Also GD is great but honestly is a bit old nowadays (2016, so 8 years ago). The animations, some sounds and some graphics have aged badly.

Games borrow from other games all the time, I don’t get why people are so up-in-arms about it.

I can see these being adapted for Diablo to some degree, and may already have been adapted.

By tHis logic, no games will exist at all. All games take things that work from other games.

People hate gathering Altars of Lilith because they are garbage, and there are far too many of them, and they offer far too little in reward for finding them.

On the other hand the shrine system in Grim Dawn is excellent, from variety to rewards.

And as far as the progression system, they need to do something, as the current one is so bad.

I miss GD. Good thing we get another expansion soon.

After a year of this, I will take changes/ideas for the better from anywhere, even the hobo at the bus station.

2 favourite elements of GD to me. Beats latest graphics by any means.

Indeed, and since you use the shrine points (found mainly as your progress naturally through the game) to unlock the constellations of your choice they are ALWAYS relevant to your build.

But unfortunately the constellation system in GD would cause severe cranial restructuring for many D4 players.

I am surprised we don’t have actual crafting in the game yet. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Grim Dawn? I think you haven’t been paying attention. The ONLY game D4 will EVER take inspiration from is D3. End of story. These devs know NOTHING else, so they will do nothing else.

I think the Diablo team knows Grim Dawn quite well. I bet they have studied a lot of ARPGs before and during this project. That’s what anyone would do, especially game developers. They probably study a lot of other games too, though.

Well, I have a couple of ideas that I took from Wolcen (yes, that RPG they abandoned).

With the wait for the s5 I half played Wolcen and the truth is that its endgame seems to be one of the best for me.

It would be nice to see in diablo something like what wolcen has.

Hunts.
You enter a dungeon and a body appears on the ground, the quan will put you in ratos to continue, and the next body you have afflijos to choose.
This would be great because with this you could get.
More gold.
Better equipment.
Better materials etc.

Dungeons by floors.
In wolcen I found that some dungeons are divided by levels.
You kill the final boss of that map and 2 portals open, 1 to quit 2 to continue to the next level.

This was very enjoyable for me as I enjoyed moving on to the next floor to get better equipment.

I can’t imagine the order table in diablo, but an endgame like the one wolcen has for me is one of the best, since you have a diversity of things to do.

Yes, in my feedback I mentioned it…Uber manual with just one use and you can only equip one item like this per character.Temporary manuals, for example + 2 in all skills for 15 minutes.Among many aspects that could be improved.
